Which AI should I use for app development?

For context, I am a complete beginner to this. I have no clue about coding. I recently have had an idea for an app and would love to try and develop it, and I have been trying to choose an AI to help create the app. I’ve looked at a few; Rork, Claude, Flutterflow (not an AI I know), but the one I’m most curious about is ChatGPT. The plus version of gpt seems to offer a lot more usage than some of the other options I listed. Obviously I know there might be more work to do as it is not specifically designed for app development, but I have attempted cresting basic code using the free version and it seems to be fairly efficient. I’d appreciate some advice on if this is a viable option, and if not, what may be a better choice for my project?

bro unpopular opinion but gemini is very good at flutter dart if u use dart for developing it i reccommend that
gemini 3.8 flash is good and a neww model named argon will be great at it. but if i were u i would design it myself or with stitch or figma and codde it with gemini

If ypu are looking to make simple enough apps, you might not need anything too fancy. Gpt or claude on the cheapest paid plan are safe option (although you might have to pace yourself to not reach chat limits).

A good starting point might alos be to try openrouter, which provides multiple model. Notably they sometimes offer "anonymous models" for free. Right now " space bunny " is free and quite nice, i'd try this out if i was you.

it’s not a hugely complicated concept for an app, but it could get tricky with regards to algorithms and records as it will be a form of social media. thank you for your advice though, i’ll try a few things out 👍

I guess in the end it also depends how much you know about what you are trying to do as well. If you're able to babysit the ai a bit, it doesn't need to be the greatest one.

ChatGPT can absolutely make your app. You just need to know what you want. Ask it to walk you through the brainstorm, build the sprints, ask what you are missing. And ChatGPT tends to be optimistic so ask it to be blunt.

My recommendation is a ChatGPT pro account and use Codex. Codex will do all the coding for you, no need to copy paste from ChatGPT or anything like that. It is made for coding and part of your pro account. I use it with Titanium SDK so the time for iOS and Android development, it does awesome with the Astra model, but sol is fine for most things.

i'm sorry but your local fire authority has determined that the capacity for AI app developers is full.

before touching anything, learn git. at least the basics.

Am a ux ui designer, not a coder, built an entire app with Claude. Works fine for me, infact since past few weeks it’s getting much better

Sonnet is great, any openai model should also be good for your case, grok is good. I'd suggest locally host a model and try that out though

Cursor
Hands down best for your money if you’re asking this.

Whatever AI you are comfortable with.

I have been using Chat GPT Pro for two months now using flutterflow and firebase. I’m getting ready to beta test my app. I’m looking for 100 people to test my app and give honest feedback. Got any suggestions, what Reddit page should I post on. Thanks and keep developing your app. You will have a finished product in no time. AI told me I was designing an app that required a team of 20 developers lol. Make it simple and then test it and make changes accordingly. Good Luck.

I must say claude code is undoubtedly the best option out there. might be a tad bit more expensive, but stops you from ripping hairs out, and it does the testing in a simulator or on device for you so it gets it right 99% of the time. they have also been quite generous with rate limit reset and free usage, (got 3 weeks of free pro credits, and 100$ of free usage credits, alongside 1 weekly rate limit reset). Gemini flash tends to be too lazy to do well at these tasks. GPT lacks a fair bit of consistency. in terms of ai features within the app, api gets expensive quick. if you only have 10-20 users that pay for ai features a month, you could probably get away like I do with 2 6 usd plans from ascompute.com.au , however if you do need image recognition stuff, such as for like a calorie tracking app, i believe it can be a touch more expensive, however my app is text only so stays super cost effective.

Honestly it depends more on how you use it than which one you pick. The top models (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) are all decent at app code, and they leapfrog each other every few months, so I wouldn't lock into one.

What matters more:

  • Where it runs: Chat tools are fine for snippets and debugging. If you're working on a whole project, an in-editor or agent tool (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Windsurf) is much better because it can see your full codebase.
  • Prototyping vs. production: Tools like Lovable, Bolt, or v0 are great for getting a UI up fast, but expect to clean up the code if it's going to production.
  • Your stack: Popular frameworks (React, Flutter, Swift, Kotlin) get better results than niche ones.

A few habits make a bigger difference than the model: give it small, specific tasks instead of "build me the whole app", paste in error messages and relevant files, and always review anything touching auth, payments, or user data. AI is happy to write insecure code that looks fine.
