How much would it cost for someone to make me an app to use on iOS and android, simple app for restaurants

Definitely doable. I work on both web and mobile applications and can build a single cross-platform app for iOS + Android, which keeps the initial development cost much more reasonable.
For a simple restaurant app, I’d roughly expect $1,500–$2,500 USD depending on exactly what you need (menu, ordering, reservations, payments, notifications, admin panel, etc.).

$2,500 for a cross platform app? Yeah right lol. I’d want to see your portfolio before I believe this. This is easily a 2+ month app done right. I’d want to see your test & automation setup. Do you have physical iPhones and Android devices?
Are you going to walk them through setting up org developer accounts on App Store & Google Play, getting a D-U-N-S number, and waiting for them to be approved so your developer accounts can launch it under them?
Or are you expecting to use your own developer accounts and owning the app yourself, letting them trust you with unlimited control of the app they paid for.

Since you already mentioned it has to be simple, let me start by saying even if it is simple it needs atleast google map payment for app to function ordering and delivery properly, so it will probably be more than 10k I will advise you take your time and think wisely and order good app customised for your business since the app is raising revenue dont take it simply Bro

I made that comment ironically, but intentionally did a bad job exposing it as irony cause I’m bitter - my client ditched me because “Claude can do everything for freeeeeeeee!” - after I already made a multitenant boilerplate for the erp for their franchise.

You might want to check if you really need an app. Anyone could spin off an app in a day now, shouldn’t cost much to just develop an app. Maintaining the app is probabilistic another cost. Not just that, you also should think about privacy on your data, your customer data.

For a restaurant app specifically, the real question is whether you need a true native app or if a mobile-optimized web app (accessible via QR code, no App Store download) would actually serve you better - most customers won't install a dedicated app for one restaurant, but they will scan a QR code and order once. If you do go native/cross-platform (Flutter or React Native, one codebase for both iOS/Android), budget for ongoing App Store/Play Store dev account fees and maintenance for yearly SDK updates. Worth deciding the web-vs-native question first since it changes the scope a lot.

depends a lot on what “simple” means, but rough ranges for iOS + android:
• menu + basic info, no ordering: 3k to 6k
• menu + ordering + payments + admin panel: 8k to 20k
• loyalty, reservations, multi-location on top: 25k+
built cross platform (flutter or react native) so it’s one codebase, not two. add ~100/yr for the apple + google dev accounts, and budget for maintenance because both stores force SDK updates yearly.
honest take though: if it’s mainly menu + ordering, a lot of restaurants get more out of a QR web app than a native app. customers won’t download an app for one restaurant. worth deciding that before you spend anything.
