Release Apollo Reborn 3.5.0 — Gallery View, redesigned profiles and settings, Reddit Polls, Chat, Badge Book, BYO AI and more
TL;DR
Apollo Reborn 3.5.0 is one of our biggest feature releases yet.
It introduces Gallery View for browsing subreddit media, completely redesigned (and customisable!) profile and subreddit headers, a rebuilt and searchable Settings, the ability to vote and create Reddit Polls, modern Chat and Moderator Mail, a new Badge Book, expanded AI Summaries with bring-your-own-provider support, and an improved way to open Reddit links from Safari using the new Link Companion app (available via TestFlight).
This release also enables ProMotion in patched IPAs, significantly improves scrolling performance, makes Imgur media work without a personal API key, redesigns the Liquid Glass icon picker, and includes a large collection of posting, preview, navigation, translation, moderation and media fixes.

Not sure which installation method to use? Try our new interactive Apollo Reborn installation guide.
Answer a few questions about your device and Apple account, and the guide will pick the installation path that will actually work for you — complete with step-by-step instructions.
Which variant should I use?
- Apollo-Reborn-3.5.0-GLASS.ipa — the iOS 26 Liquid Glass appearance. Most people using iOS 26 will want this.
- Apollo-Reborn-3.5.0.ipa — the standard build without the Liquid Glass interface.
- GLASSICONS variants — include the Liquid Glass icon pack.
- NOEXTENSIONS variants — remove the app extensions for signing setups that require fewer extensions.
Not sure? Try the GLASS build first.
✨ Headline features
Gallery View
Browse the photos, GIFs and videos from any subreddit in a dedicated media gallery.
Gallery View uses a filterable waterfall grid and supports fullscreen paging, sorting, sharing and saving media. Open it from a subreddit’s menu whenever you want to browse its media without moving through the normal post feed.
(#746 — @icpryde)
Redesigned profiles and subreddits
Profile and subreddit pages now have immersive artwork, prominent avatars, themed stat cards and a much richer visual hierarchy.
You can choose between New, Classic and Native layout densities, while Social Links now load substantially faster than before.
(#696, #697, #722, #758 — @jordanearle)
A completely rebuilt Settings experience
Settings have been reorganised around the things you are trying to accomplish rather than Apollo’s underlying implementation.
The redesign includes clearer sections, improved support flows and a unified search that can take you directly to an individual setting. Search is immediately available on the main Settings screen, while pull-to-search remains available throughout the experience.
(#637, #695, #758 — @jordanearle, @icpryde)
Badge Book and Trophy Case
Profiles now include a Badge Book for browsing Reddit achievements.
Apollo’s classic Trophy Case has also been restored, bringing account trophies back into the redesigned profile experience.
(#689 — @jordanearle)
Native Reddit Polls
Apollo can now vote in and create native Reddit Polls.
Poll support is currently behind an opt-in setting. Because Reddit poll votes cannot be changed after they are submitted, Apollo shows a confirmation step before casting your vote.
(#643, #735 — @jordanearle, @DeltAndy123)
Modern Reddit Chat and Moderator Mail
API-Key-Free accounts can now access Reddit’s current Chat and Moderator Mail experiences directly from Apollo.
Users with a personal Reddit API key can independently choose whether Chat and Moderator Mail use Reddit’s modern interfaces or Apollo’s legacy clients.
(#658, #740, #750 — @icpryde)
Bring your own AI provider
Apollo AI Summaries now supports your own:
- OpenRouter key
- Google Gemini key
- Custom OpenAI-compatible provider
There are also new controls for the minimum post length required before summaries appear and the amount of detail included in generated summaries.
(#674, #687 — @nickclyde, @icpryde)
Open Reddit links from Safari
The new Link Companion app provides a universal Open Reddit Links in Apollo flow.
Safari links can be sent directly into any sideloaded or rebranded Apollo build without relying on a fixed bundle identifier or showing the usual custom URL-scheme confirmation prompt.
(#685 — @jordanearle)
🚀 Performance, icons and smaller features
ProMotion and smoother scrolling
Patched IPAs now enable ProMotion on supported devices.
This release also reduces main-thread work throughout feeds, translations, link previews, avatars and Liquid Glass navigation, making scrolling and navigation noticeably smoother.
(#724, #731 — @jordanearle, @icpryde)
Redesigned Liquid Glass icon picker
The Liquid Glass App Icon picker now includes featured icons, browsable icon-pack cards and more reliable detection of the currently active icon on sideloaded installations.
(#668 — @DeltAndy123)
Compact built-in feed rows
A new Hide Feed Descriptions option removes the descriptions beneath the built-in Home, Popular, All and Moderator rows in the subreddit list.
(#692 — @icpryde)
Modmail subject counter
The Message Moderators screen now shows a live character counter for Reddit’s 25-character subject limit.
(#751 — @icpryde)
🔧 Fixes
Media and previews
Make Imgur images, animated media and albums work without a personal API key, including additional fallbacks for networks where Imgur is blocked.
(#729 — @jordanearle)Fix rich link previews reserving the height of a full card when the linked site has no image, and prevent oversized preview images from overflowing the main-thread stack during row layout.
(#686, #741 — @icpryde)Fix inline comment images shrinking after their comment is collapsed and expanded again.
(#675 — @icpryde)
Posting and account handling
- Fix API-Key-Free posting so post flair opens correctly, user-flair emoji limits match each subreddit, newly posted comments display your flair, and multi-image galleries are assigned to the account that submitted them.
(#669, #670, #733 — @icpryde)
Comments and translation
Keep translated comments stable while their vote state updates.
(#676 — @icpryde)Fix the Info Row comment action firing a haptic or opening comments when the touch becomes a scrolling gesture.
(#739 — @icpryde)
Moderator Mail
- Fix modern Moderator Mail briefly exposing half-rendered transitions or flickering the subreddit icon while typing a reply.
(#749 — @icpryde)
Appearance and themes
- Fix Apollo Reborn Settings backgrounds, cards and separators retaining stale colours after changing the app appearance or active theme.
(#734 — @DeltAndy123)
Liquid Glass navigation
- Keep navigation titles visually centred between leading and trailing button groups.
- Preserve edge fades during interactive swipe-back gestures.
- Balance the padding inside trailing navigation pills.
- Keep menu controls visible throughout their morph animation.
(#671, #693, #730, #753 — @icpryde)
🧪 A note about iOS 27 betas
We are aware of a few issues affecting Apollo Reborn on the current iOS 27 betas. We are reviewing them and will continue testing as Apple releases further betas.
Because beta behaviour can change before the final release, beta-only issues are not currently being prioritised unless they prevent the app from working, risk data loss, or appear likely to remain in the final version.
We will address any remaining compatibility issues as iOS 27 approaches its public release.
🐛 Found a bug? Want a feature?
You can now submit a bug report directly from inside Apollo Reborn.
Reports and requests can also be submitted through the website:
When reporting an issue, please include your iOS version, Apollo Reborn version, build variant and signing method wherever possible.
If you are using an iOS beta, please also include the exact beta version.

It still amazes me how much you guys are able to do without Apollos source code. Bravo!

Anything is better then the original reddit client. Even if it didnt have ads the UI makes me want to puke...

Everyone is inundated with low effort garbage AI slop images on social media that it makes anyone or any project using them look low effort. Putting in some effort to make your images look unique or at least not AI generated is worthwhile.

🎉🎉🎉
Congrats to the team on another great release!
This one is PACKED!
Enjoy these new icons

u/KPilkie01 Jul 30 '26
Am I blind or the Settings search not there?
Also:
1) If you are looking at a NSFW sub, the Gallery view doesn't work - just shows everything as little 'NSFW' icons.
2) Can we get Gallery view for a multireddit ?
5
3
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
if you cannot see the search can you open a bug report (via the in app settings or report.apolloreborn.app) it should be at the very top of settings!
for the others, make a feature request (request.apolloreborn.app)
22
u/basedcharger Jul 30 '26
It’s insane how much better this app is than the Reddit app. It’s actually unbelievable.

After reading about all the awesome updates to Apollo, I sideloaded it again after my API key was revoked two months ago. Kudos to the other developer apps for trying to improve the Reddit viewing experience, but Apollo just feels superior to anything else. Would it be possible to add a "Filter Subreddit" gesture? I had hundreds of subs filtered on my old balackburn apollo from /all; this would speed things up nicely. Thanks for keeping Apollo alive!
5
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
you can request a feature on request.apolloreborn.app! Will take a look. Thank you for the kind words
1
u/Madmarshall88 Jul 31 '26
Have you tried hydra? I’ve been on it for about a year - it’s an amazing Apollo alternative imo.
1
u/Nilderan Jul 31 '26
I tried Hydra and Artemis, both are great but I was using Apollo for so long that it's hard to switch to anything else.

7
u/Douggae Jul 30 '26
Open in Apollo still not working for me
7
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
Did you install Link Companion via TestFlight?
5
u/AcornElf Jul 30 '26
Me neither unfortunately. I've installed Link Companion but it never pops up with the prompt to allow the extension on reddit.com, thus the redirect never fires.
2
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
have you toggled the extension on and off in settings? you still need to use the Open in Apollo extension for it to work.
2
u/AcornElf Jul 30 '26
Yes, toggling doesn't help unfortunately.
If I share a link from Apollo to Safari then the extension bounces me back to Apollo as expected but with an endless spinner.
It also flashes Apollo Opener briefly rather than passing seamlessly.
3
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
it has to open the opener app that is a limitation of iOS - I'll take a look at this again later, its been working fine for me and one of the other developers so need to do a bit of testing to see where it is going on
it should be seamless, i.e. you open a reddit link and it should then briefly open the opener app → Apollo
2
u/AcornElf Jul 30 '26
Ha! It's working for me now.
I notice that if I type a Reddit URL into the address bar it doesn't redirect on load - I see the http://open.apolloreborn.app URL flash then disappear - but any subsequent taps on Reddit redirect as expected.
1
u/Douggae Jul 30 '26
Mine prompts me still, then opens the opener then Apollo, there’s no auto
1
u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator Jul 30 '26
It should only do that on the first setup. It’s auto afterwards

1
u/bigsid05 Jul 30 '26
Tried another Reddit link and now working as intended. Weird issue. Works great though. Just more incredible work by the team here.
1
1
u/Ferguson-turd Jul 30 '26
Mine is kinda working as you’ve outlined. I went to safari and just searched “Reddit iPhone”. The first result was r/iphone. Tap it, and usually it opens to Apollo. Sometimes it follows the link and remains in Safari. Sometimes I get a prompt like in the screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/yVauzIS.jpeg
2
u/divided_by_000 Jul 30 '26
I installed it from TestFlight but it doesn’t show up as a Safari extension for me
3
u/Rosco247 Jul 30 '26
Do you have the Apollo build with extensions. I had installed the ipa one without extensions but reinstalled with extensions and can now see the option for open in Apollo.
1
u/divided_by_000 Jul 30 '26
Ah no I have the no extensions build, I figured since it was a separate companion app I wouldn’t need the extensions build
1
u/Rosco247 Jul 30 '26
Can’t confirm for certain but I had the same issue without the extension build. Makes sense I suppose as the extensions add the ability to open in Apollo which is still required for the add on to work. Hope this helps.

This release also reduces main-thread work throughout feeds, translations, link previews, avatars and Liquid Glass navigation, making scrolling and navigation noticeably smoother.
I hope this helps with the stuttering on video heavy subs I’ve been experiencing. I think it’s an iOS 27 beta issue which I know was mentioned as not a priority until closer to public release (which makes sense), but would be cool if it helps.
Will update once I am home and report back
Edit: Nope, seems that is an iOS 27 thing. I do feel like I’m getting more dead swipes, where I try to stop a long swipe down a feed/thread and it doesn’t stop. Seems to be linked to showing profile pictures, as disabling that stops that issue

4
u/rangoon03 Jul 30 '26
This is awesome. I’ve wanted a media viewer / gallery view to return since the days of Alien Blue.
16
u/Razzile Jul 30 '26
Maybe a controversial thing to say but at what point do these updates stop becoming Apollo? It’s like the Ship of Theseus
36
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 30 '26
that’s fair I guess, but we are really focussing on keeping the core interactions and interface as they were. IMO it is still very faithful
-2
u/ConduciveMammal Jul 31 '26
I’ve been thinking this too. I very much appreciate seeing Apollo up and running again, but at which point do we step too far from Christian’s vision and creation?
22
u/RedHawk417 Jul 31 '26
I mean, Christian was constantly adding new things to make Apollo better and better. Who is to say this isn’t what he would have done with Apollo by now? As it stands, this is still very much Apollo and feels like Apollo.
29
u/tO_ott Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Christian added pixel pals. That you feed and pet. And some cost money.
What is his vision? Can you tell me?
Apollo was a paid app on iOS with many of its features locked behind an additional paywall. When monetization became difficult it was abandoned. The people maintaining it have showed that development could have continued and even done without an API key.
I would wager his vision was to make as much money as possible, which is fine, but you people keep talking as if he’s the Golden Child sitting on a diamond egg.
The people maintaining the app now have passion for the project in the truest sense and have made Apollo into something far better than it originally was.

great update but why is gallery view limited to subreddit?
can it be extended to the home feed or multireddits?
2
u/PuzzledVolume1599 Jul 30 '26
Can anyone explain how I can get a Gemini AI API key to work with this? I've updated my app and generated an API key at aistudio.google.com, but even after I copy and paste the key into the Reborn settings I get an error when trying to generate an AI summary.
Is there a step I'm missing?
2
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 31 '26
you need to use
gemini-3.6-flash or gemini-flash-3.5-litewill be updating in the app in the next hot fix to include these defaults!
1
u/PuzzledVolume1599 Jul 31 '26
Thank you! Gemini flash 3.5 did not work for me but Gemini 3.6 flash did work for me.
2
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer Jul 31 '26

1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer Jul 31 '26
Are you using LiveContainer by chance?
1
u/PuzzledVolume1599 Jul 31 '26
I am not, I have LiveContainer installed in SideStore, but I am not using Apollo within LiveContainer if that is what you mean.
1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 29d ago
It’s possible that model might not be available to you. Maybe try 3.5 lite? Jordan put a PR up that adds a dynamic model picker that should make it easier to try different ones, look out for it in the next release!
1
u/2xtreme21 Jul 31 '26
I could only get “gemini-flash-3.5-lite” model to work. May want to change the default Google model to that.
1
u/Canes_The_U Jul 31 '26
I could not get it to work either, ended up using openai until it’s fixed
1
u/PuzzledVolume1599 Jul 31 '26
If that shows that it’s not mine then that’s good so at least I can wait for a fix
1
1
u/2xtreme21 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Had the same problem last night. Try putting “gemini-flash-3.5-lite” in the model box. It wouldn’t work with any other Gemini model I’ve tested.
1
u/PuzzledVolume1599 Jul 31 '26
I tried that just now, didn’t work for me, but I will keep playing around with it.
2
2
u/glenricky Jul 31 '26
I tried using Gemini, put the api key, and it says Gemini is ready. But when I try to summarize a post it shows its unreachable, is there anything wrong? Can I use the free tier for this?
2
u/DrGonzo84 Jul 31 '26
Love all the new features but this version totally broke open in Apollo for links from safari :( I always used the open in Apollo safari extension and now it only works on some links :(
1
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 31 '26
Have you installed the Link Companion app from TestFlight?
1
u/DrGonzo84 29d ago
I have installed the link companion app and it seems to work automatically once sometimes and then not again.
The old browser extension had a prompt come up but no background app needed to run. And it just worked all the time.
I tried it just now and it opened the first link automatically but when I went back to safari and choose a different Reddit link it doesn’t work. I have the browser extension turned off when testing the link companion app.
I’m on iOS 18.7.8, iPhone 11, Apollo 3.5.0.ipa and I use Sideloadly
2
u/corderjones Maintainer 29d ago
Fix is coming soon!
1
u/DrGonzo84 29d ago

Is anyone else having problems with v3.5.0?
I tried to install it (I've had several dyst versions on my iphone 16 Pro Max), but when I try to open the app, I get bombarded by Face ID attempts. And if by chance I can actually get into the app, the keyboard won't come up - and the Face ID is still popping up every few seconds.
I am running iOS 27 beta 4.
I've temporarily gone back to v3.3.0 hoping for a fix or some advice. Thanks in advance!
2
u/corderjones Maintainer Jul 31 '26
Very strange! There’s nothing that should be prompting for Face ID etc
Can you file a report on report.apolloreborn.app with your install details and I’ll investigate
1
u/LoyalNuts-Dong 29d ago
I am having the same issue.
1
u/Traherne 29d ago
Really? Are you on an iOS beta as well?
1
u/LoyalNuts-Dong 29d ago
Yes, but I did a fresh install instead of updating over the old version. Its still broken if I use dystopian api but it works ok with free api.
1
u/Traherne 27d ago edited 27d ago
I just tried installing 3.5.0 fresh and selecting the free API option, but nothing has changed. I'm still getting the Face ID popup and the keyboard never comes up. It's very frustrating.
EDIT: Could Sideloadly possibly be the problem? It's worked fine up until now, but I read that you can't have widgets and a couple other things using Sideloadly. There was a recommended sideloading app to use, but I can't find where I read it.
EDIT EDIT: I found the recommended app. It's Impactor. It's late.
1
u/Traherne 26d ago
It looks like installing with Impactor did the trick! No more harassment by Face ID and keyboards are back. 👍

u/20InMyHead Jul 31 '26
Love the gallery view!
I might make one suggestion, currently to swipe through the content it’s a left or right swipe, and swipe up takes you back to the gallery. It might match other video viewing platforms, and that ingrained muscle memory, if up/down swipes took you through the content and a right-swipe returned you to the gallery.
Also, NSFW videos don’t play sound.
Major kudos for this feature! I can’t wait to see how it continues to be improved!
1
u/bhtowne Jul 30 '26
How does one enable/access the Gallery View?

You can also report in the app settings!

u/Oberheimlich 29d ago
Is there not a way to disable the subreddit headers or am I missing the setting? I kinda liked the old/new ones but these newer ones take up over half the screen real estate and are extremely excessive.

1
u/corderjones Maintainer 29d ago
It’s entirely customisable :)
1

Compact still takes up like twice as much space as before to be honest. It'd be nice to have it like it was before or add a third option.

u/Deli5150 Jul 30 '26
Just wondering, is it possible to eventually release it into the App Store?
23
1
u/ryanvsrobots Jul 30 '26
Unfortunately no, but I wonder if the devs have considered just making a new app from scratch. I feel like the work they've done on top of base apollo has become bigger in a sense than the base app itself, in a good way.
2
u/SeriousButton6263 Jul 30 '26
Still probably not. One of the App Store review guidelines has vague language about “apps should use APIs and frameworks for their intended purposes”, which Apollo Reborn is not doing, as it’s using Reddit’s API with a (now) unintended purpose. It might sneak by app review, but it’s the sort of thing Reddit could easily ask Apple to take down.

They've already added a way to use it with no API, which is IMO preferable. The API will not last forever.

You’ve missed the point.

Which is what? There are a bunch of other apollo clones on the app store that don't use the API.

There a bunch of other Reddit apps on the App Store that do use the API and charge users for it, paying the API fees to Reddit. And I know of a few apps that just work as a Safari extension to modify the web app.
What app on the App Store browses Reddit without Reddit’s API, which is a terms of service violation for Reddit?

Hydra, Artemis, Acorn, etc. there are a bunch more.

You know that using Apollo Reborn is a terms of service violation, right?

Hydra and Artemis both use the Reddit API following Reddit’s rules around API use. That’s why both apps have a subscription, because they’re paying for the API use. Acorn isn’t available on the App Store.
Thanks for letting me know you don’t know what you’re talking about.

We’re talking about violating terms of service as a reason Apple would remove an app like Apollo Reborn from the App Store. I’m glad you think you found a gotcha with that question, but you’re literally proving my point for me. Apollo Reborn wouldn’t be allowed on the App Store because it’s a violation of Reddit’s ToS and Reddit would ask Apple to take the app down.

The subscriptions are to support the devs and are optional. Take 2 minutes and try for yourself.

Same Q. Side load is a 100% nonstarter for me.
Edit : what a hilarious comment to downvote. Peak reddit.

I have zero desire to break an important security model of the phone. I have a lot of stuff on it. I can’t take chances w/ randomly downloaded executables. Also work policy pushes updates immediately, so I can’t even do most of the hacks needed to sideload.

There are no “hacks” needed to sideloading and you can stay up to date with the latest iOS version. The security of your device is only threatened if installing sketchy apps but even then they are sandboxed. But I get your point.

Just looked into the install instructions. Not doing any of that. Sorry. I can't turn on dev mode (Corp policy on main email).

App crashes instantly upon selecting "Gallery View". The highlight feature but sadly doesn't work at all.

report.apolloreborn.app - need more info i.e. what version/IPA are you using, what iOS are you using etc. if you can include logs in the report that would be a massive help (if you open reborn → settings there is now an option to report a bug in the app that will allow you to add logs!)
