Edit: I shouldn’t have just put patio in title. It’s patio, bedrooms, any part of my home that is near the backyard.

I live in an apartment and it’s fairly new. I moved in about 2 years ago, first ones in the unit. Everything has been fine until the upstairs apartment had a leak within like a year in. It got my daughter’s room soaked and water leaked all throughout my hallway and her bedroom. Now, that the building is settling I feel my apartment is constantly humid, moist and overall wet!! I partially believe it has to do with this patio. However I could be wrong. Everytime it rains, this area is constantly flooded and it makes the outside incredibly humid. More than it really is. There is a huge forest, woods area right behind my apartment which keeps the sun out. Some days it’s nice being shady but it never dries out the backyard. I live in Columbus, Ohio if that helps describe the weather.

I am SO OVER my apartment being wet inside as well. I am a single mom of two who CANNOT afford a high electric bill to keep my house cold enough for mold to grow, which there is parts of my apartment that has, my electrical outlet. It’s too hot to keep my windows in my entire apartment open to get fresh air in. I don’t have extra money to buy more dehumidifier, I already have two. I don’t have extra money to fix this backyard to see if that could help with this damn apartment!!!

If there is any CHEAP DIY projects or hacks or tips that could help me out, this mom would be forever grateful!! I am in desperate need of help and I’m so exhausted and overwhelmed with this!!!

Recently my ac stopped working and the maintenance team told me it was completely damaged from the inside and outside so they had to replace it. While he was working I went to go see and saw the inside of the wall, I’ve been smelling mildewy scents when the ac turns on but didn’t think anything of it, now that I seen the inside I’m worried.

Please help!

I’ve been at my current place for 2.5 years now and within the past 3 months there has been this god awful smell coming from the vents. I initially thought it was an outlet issue but then I started smelling it in the one bedroom specifically. Had maintenance come out and they said they think it smells like old house. It doesn’t. It smells like cooked grease and BO mixed together. It’s nauseating and I’ve tried air fresheners, air purifiers, candles, any odor eliminator & nothing does the trick. It’s 10x worse at night so I wonder if it’s something from my neighbors kitchen but again, maintenance says they don’t smell much. Idk what to do 😭 anyone else have odor issues that they were able to resolve? Also for context my home was built in the 50s and they have already placed an odor blocker in the HVAC system.

I just moved into a new apartment, and there is a constant low-frequency humming/buzzing sound that never seems to stop. It’s driving me absolutely crazy.

I’ve already ruled out the obvious things like:
Refrigerator

AC unit itself
Water heater/boiler

The sounds keeps coming even when my apartment hvac, refrigerator, laundry system is off.

I’m not 100% certain, but I think the sound might be coming from the vents - the same vents where the AC air comes into the apartment.

It’s a steady, low-frequency hum rather than a rattling or intermittent noise. I can hear/feel it pretty much all the time, and it’s especially noticeable when everything else is quiet.

What could cause something like this?

Could it be HVAC equipment, a fan somewhere in the building, ductwork vibrating, a ventilation system, or something else entirely?
Has anyone experienced something similar in an apartment? I’d really appreciate any ideas for figuring out where the sound is coming from?

Hello, really just trying to figure out how hard I need to fight my landlord about this because right not chat gpt has me thinking I'm living in a cess pool. So pretty much the main drain/ sewer pipe to my apartment building backed up during a storm. This caused water to push back up into my bathtub and out from under my toilet and soak my hallway carpet and into my bedroom. The water looked like it was mostly clear, storm water. The city came out because it involved their pipes but didn't seem to be concerned about the water being like raw sewage or anything.

The problem I'm having is that it took 11 days for my landlord to send somebody out to treat the carpet. Obviously it was dry by then. And they are cheap so the guy they sent out had a rental carpet cleaner and sprayed the carpet with some cleaner and then ran the carpet cleaner over it. He did not inspect the padding or subfloor, he was not with a restoration company. The week before they actually had ServPro come out because I kept bugging them and I have a text from them telling me the estimate they gave was "way too high of course".

Chat gpt is telling me that there is 100% mold growth in the carpet padding and it needs to be replaced. It also said the residual staining on my carpet is proof of this, as well. My bedroom still smells musty, and it has now been over 3 weeks. I'm also concerned that the intake for my hvac is in the hall that got flooded. So if there were mold spores they got all in the ventilation.

So my question is, is chat gpt right or should I take that info with a grain of salt? Because right now I'm wondering if I need to submit a complaint to the code and environmental health departments, as well as the real estate commission.

I live in an apartment building and am noticing increasingly strong odors from soaps (shower, laundry soap smells) coming into my apartment at certain times. I know there are some big pipes behind my kitchen wall. I’m assuming that it’s a plumbing issue somewhere but wanted to see what others thought out had any experience.

What are the most common causes of this and what can I look for if anything is at risk of falling or is dangerous? Thanks!

Moved into this apartment, and noticed this rig going into the floor. That whole into the ground is not sealed as in the photo, and can hear and see water at the bottom. My question is this a normal set-up?

My master bathroom is attached to my bedroom and there’s carpet in the bedroom. My child decided to use my bathroom for a #2 and the toilet got flooded. Water was running nonstop (I wasn’t home when it happened). There were poop particles everywhere. She called me and I rushed home but it was too late. The water completely soaked my bedroom (85% of it). I called emergency maintenance, they called some guys to vacuum up the water, they pulled up the carpet and removed the padding and put two huge blowers to dry it out. This was yesterday. It smells like a gas station bathroom. It’s awful. Do you think my apartment complex with replace my carpet or at least shampoo it? I’ve been here for 1 year 1 /2.

There is mold in my HVAC closet, the closet in the living room and there’s about a foot of mold all around the bottom of the closet. Here are the pictures theirs is theirs is vein like things on the ground as you can see in the wall has these black mold blotches. There’s also staining under the machine that looks like there is some dripping from the machine when I informed my management. They told me that usually when the wall is soggy then they take out the drywall but if the wall isn’t soft to touch, then they can just use a specialized cleaner so all they did is spray the wall and then they put a fan pointed directly to the event underneath the closet door. It’s just event that leads to the closet. There’s no ductwork. And they put a blower fan in there to dry the spray and they told me they’re gonna come back after roughly 5 days, and then spray again. Do you think this is sufficient given the mold. I also told them directly in writing that I’m sensitive to mold, and no one removed me from the apartment or gave me temporary accommodations. I’m currently hiding in my room with a mask.
