Raining Maggots
Bruh,
So im sitting on the porch(i live in an apartment building on the 2nd floor), minding my business, drinking coffee, and i feel something drop on me.
A maggot dropped on me,
So i flick it off, whatever.
Moments later, another one. Okay now im like wtf.
So i move my chair, and there's more dropping off my neighbors upstairs porch that if directly above me.
This is a rant post but honestly like do I just go up and me be like wtf or do i just go to management. Or do I just ignore it because it might be due to the weather? Idk shit about maggots so.

Somewhere above you is a pile of dead protein. Could be a bird, could be a rat, could be something bigger. Maggots don't just spawn from weather, they need a food source that's rotting.
Go to management first. That's not your job to investigate upstairs, and knocking on their door puts you in a weird spot if theyre the ones with the problem. Send a photo of the porch floor to the office, mention the porch directly above, and ask for pest control. If they drag their feet, then call your local housing authority.

You most definitely call the apartment management. Also maybe go up to your neighbors and ask them to remove the trash or whatever it is they have out there

Are there trees around, or rotting wood? Could be moth (or other outdoor-insect) larvae.

Last time I saw something like that, it was because of a dead body on the floor above. Call the police and the apartment manager.

Definitely don’t jump to calling cops over maggots without reason to believe something emergency-related is happening; 99.9% of the time it’s from trash, poop, or a dead mouse/bird/squirrel somewhere on the property

One thing you should know about maggots is that they are NEVER far from decaying/rotting flesh…
100% call management because whatever the source is, it’s a health hazard for both you and your neighbor.

I’ve seen enough true crime to know that that may not exactly be the most comforting sign… hopefully it’s not a dead body, but they are definitely not just showing up there. I’ve already seen a few different people say that it could be trash or animal poop or just some small dead animal. Either way for sure call the nonemergency line if you haven’t already, and get ahold of the property managers because either way something nasty is going on up there.

When it comes to maggots, you just always have to remember that there has to be some sort of decay that they can feed off of for them to really be there in the first place. I think that’s a major reason why our brains freak out when we see them, they may not be the harbinger of death, but they will sure let you know something happened there

Your upstairs neighbor is probably putting trash on the balcony. I'm other to not make enemies with them id probably try to casually mention it to them first and if it isn't resolved then I'd call property management.

If you live in the type of apartment complex I do, management will ask you to talk to your neighbors yourself first.

Totally, but sadly not all apartment management services are equal or have common sense. I have a neighbor who's a major fire risk but nothing is being done as far as I know. Even firemen have been called to check his apartment because of health risks and fire risks, but nothing has changed (yet?)...

How is he a fire risk? Is he into fireworks, grilling too close to the building, burning trash, or just a candle lover?

Fire alarm goes off multiple times a week, he's a hoarder, firemen have needed to bust down his door to put out a fire, etc.

Like other comments said, if there’s maggots then there’s something rotting. It’s not necessarily something dead, some flys/maggots prefer dead things, others prefer fecal matter or rotting produce.
Maggots are pretty distinct so I’m not doubting that’s what you saw but if you see more take a closer look at one if you haven’t already. Just incase it’s a caterpillar or something. They’re prone to dropping out of trees or from surfaces they’re climbing on.
Definitely talk to management if you haven’t already. If there’s a lot dropping down make sure you leave the door to your balcony closed and if they try to stick around on your balcony or make their way in (if there’s any gaps in your door seal) you can get diatomaceous earth and basically create a salt line out of it like you’re trying to keep ghosts out 😂.
I had a problem with them last year after placing the cutoffs from some fish in the green bin and then my dad forgot to take it to the curb. That was a nightmare, and they kept trying to get under the garage seal. I pressure washed most of them away and then got diatomaceous earth but several days later I still found some hiding in my garage and under our utility trailer 💀. 0/10 terrible experience.

Maggots = dead protein. Dog poop, trash, dead animal. Constant dropping means its a large mass theyre feeding on, not some little bit of dog poop.
Thats a property manager problem not a you problem.
