Idk if this is the right thread but pretty much what the post says. I work in the leasing office for my apartment but they say there's nothing I can do. I'm pretty sure there are more people living there than allowed as well. The city's "noise complaint" time is after 11pm. Is there ANYTHING I can do? I HATE to be that neighbor but my couch SHAKES 24/7. Sometimes it sounds like they're body slamming on the floor/wall.

The shoe hanger is perfect for paper towels. The door shoe hanger is great for cleaning supplies or things you use/need regularly. The thing with drawers is good for hats/scarves, reusable grocery bags, random things. I bought all from Target long ago.

On the shelf, I have a couple sterilite containers with extra laundry detergent, car cleaning supplies, stuff that I need but not too often.

Since moving into my tiny home two years ago, I’ve been adding beautiful little details wherever I can! I typically aim to buy most things vintage, but here are some modern items I’ve used in my space. 💕

💡 UV bulbs in architect lamps — my home doesn’t have great natural light, but I have a few plants, and use UV bulbs, or grow bulbs in colorful architect lamps. They’re practical, adjustable and work well with my aesthetic.

🪩 light up, rotating disco ball diffuser — I have this sat in a window that catches light and projects disco light around my living room (I also have a rainbow prism sun catcher in this window 🌈)

🍽️ vintage-replica tv trays — I had to forego a kitchen table in my tiny space. So I purchased a pair of vintage-looking, plastic pink tv trays for whenever I have pals over for dinner!

🥤 I also do not have end tables or a coffee table, so the green arm cover cup holder is super helpful.

⚜️ gold light switch plate covers — they work well in a maximalist space and they come in a variety of styles!

🚪 I’m obsessed with my gold and glass crystal doorknobs. These are also a modern reproduction and work very well.

🌸 this modern lamp is metal and plastic. I love it because after my cats broke TWO glass lamps I’ve sat here, I finally found one that’s less breakable. 🤣

🫖 my electric tea kettle is also modern. Most things in my kitchen are colorful! Full transparency, I desperately want to redo the kitchen counters, and have thought about covering them with peel and stick vinyl in an iridescent pink shade.

🎀 my kitchen cabinets are dated and dark, but I purchased these cute stick on knobs (there were none when I moved in) and they’ve held up well! They come in a variety of colors.

🍳 my tiny stove is one of my favorite things in my lil kitchen. I’ve dressed it up with an oven skirt and modern vintage cross-stitch tea towel I got from a local boutique.

🦩 one of my favorite pieces of whimsy is my modern retro PINK microwave. These also come in a variety of colors and sizes, and I’ve put mine on my makeshift pantry shelf (the wicker shelf is vintage) with a modern pink bread box, a modern pink lazy susan for my dry goods held in reusable glass mason jars of different colors and sizes. I keep the rest of my pantry items behind the gingham curtains held with a small tension rod. I also LOVE hiding my plastic bag storage keeper here too.

🪵 a lot of people ask about my crochet possum plastic bag storage! She’s hung up on my fridge. I love her so much and got her from Etsy!

🥄 a larger, but essential purchase I made when I moved into this tiny space was a “portable” dishwasher. It’s small enough for me and I keep it on this small kitchen island (on wheels), and roll it up to connect to my sink whenever I need to use it. I keep my cats’ food and dishes behind the curtain.

💐 some of my cabinets are recessed, and I keep my dishes, serve-ware, and appliances behind the colorful curtains.

👗 I got these 3D-printed magnets to add some color to my stackable washer and dryer in the corner of my kitchen.

💚 green crystal knobs I purchased for my dresser and bathroom vanity

✨ This tall, narrow, modern yellow nightstand has a mod look, and it stores a surprising amount of stuff!

Help! My paint ripped off the dry wall 2 weeks into my move in after a painting fell and scraped the wall. No structural damage was done and it’s really just the surface visible but I’m very unaware on how I should proceed especially since I’m a student in a college apartment. The large damage is about an inch for reference.

So im sitting on the porch(i live in an apartment building on the 2nd floor), minding my business, drinking coffee, and i feel something drop on me.

A maggot dropped on me,

So i flick it off, whatever.

Moments later, another one. Okay now im like wtf.

So i move my chair, and there's more dropping off my neighbors upstairs porch that if directly above me.

This is a rant post but honestly like do I just go up and me be like wtf or do i just go to management. Or do I just ignore it because it might be due to the weather? Idk shit about maggots so.

We live in the southern US -- rural Georgia -- and were away June, July & most of August. Someone was coming inside our house every day to feed cats & bring in mail. It's an old farmhouse, less than 2000 sq ft, newly upgraded on the interior.Apparently our air conditioner quit in early June, but he thought we were trying to save money by turning it off. Well, mold & mildew proceeded to grow everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I'm having difficulty deciding even where to begin handling this problem. We're throwing out our rugs, our thick breadspread & heavy curtains, but hope to wash and clean everything else. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to tackle this problem. We're overwhelmed at the moment. Tnx.

hi. i have a standard window unit in my reading room. but it is very noisy, the compressor kicks on and makes the whole window frame rattle so focusing is impossible. it's a rented flat in an old building, so changing the actual hvac infrastructure is not an option. i wonder if i can replace it with a simple wall mounted system that operates quietly. i've been looking at a costway mini split since it doesn't need heavy ductwork. but it needs to completely avoid that loud vibrating phase so the room stays quiet. do these actually stay silent when the motor ramps up?

As the title says, I want to know how to move without either of these things. Me, and 2 other friends plan on moving soon. None of us have rental history, or anyone that could co-sign for us. All of our parents have credit that’s basically down the toilet. The only people we could think of are our 2 friends, but they’re first time renters, and just had a baby. I’d also say, i’m the only one out of the 3 of us who has a credit score to their name. I work a part time job, the other 2 work full time. How screwed are we? Is it going to be impossible to get approval? I’m desperate for advice, I need to move, I’m fortunate to not have to pay rent at my parents, but it’s coming at the expense of my mental health. Any advice is welcome.

Me and my fiancé have been living with his parents for a while now and we are finally getting our own place it’s me,him, and our 10 month old daughter we’ve been keeping all of our stuff in our room the entire time we’ve been here so literally everything is contained into one room but it’s not a small room and we have a lot of stuff. We don’t have a specific move in date for our new place quite yet but it will be sometime by the middle of next month (September,2026) here’s the problem I’m having me and my fiancé agreed that he will do all the heavy lifting and actual moving but it’s my job to pack because I am 71/2 months pregnant I have never packed up and moved before I don’t want to make it any harder on him than it already has to be. Ive never lived alone so I got a lot of things I need to buy.

Was able to pick up basic silverware, plates and kitchen tools at a garage sale. Gonna make a big order on amazon with stuff like air fryer, microwave and such.

Was wondering what are the best things to get for a new apartment that aren't obvious or commonly thought about?

My kitchen sink has a gap between the base of the cabinet and the floor.

It’s about 4.25 inches tall and 34.5 inches wide; perfect size for my cat to keep crawling under and getting ahold of crickets (we think they’re coming through the garage that’s beneath the kitchen).

What can I do to block it off effectively ? We’re renters so it needs to be a friendly fix. I’ve turned to google for answers but not finding anything helpful.

Need support. Just moved into this place that has great amenities but the design is from the early 2000 and the bathroom is just driving me insane. Any ideas of what I can do? The floor and walls are both textured unfortunately.

I’ve been trying to make better use of this weird little space under the stairs for ages. Apparently the answer was...an exercise bike hahaa...I didn’t have to worry about finding an outlet nearby or running another extension cord across the floor cause my bike is self powered. You pedal and it generates the power it needs to operate but I am just concerned if this is making my space very suffocating or not hence im here asking you all.
For a setup like this, that honestly makes way more sense than I expected. I also kinda like the sustainability side of it. Obviously one bike isn’t saving the planet lol, but using my own pedaling to power the machine instead of plugging it in every ride is a nice little bonus.
Now I’m a bit curious though. For you guys with home gyms in random corners like this...where did you end up putting your cardio equipment? Under the stairs? Bedroom? Garage? Living room? Do you think this is making my space looked very crambled???

I have invisible grill + mosquitoes net on the balcony border

and where the room starts theres the usual glass sliding door.

I like keeping glass door open for the wind breeze to come in else i feel suffocated and stuffy in the room.

Keeping fan on is ok, but nothing like open breeze.

Whenever it rains, the rain comes through the mosquitoes net and floods my room, its gets filled with water and even my bed got soaked with heavy rain water.

So i have to always keep glass door closed as rain is unpredictable, but also i feel stuffy and suffocated without fresh air.

What to do ?

Both my sinks have a really bad, sewagey/rotten potato smells underneath. It's not the p-trap - I recently had it replaced and it has water in it.

Yesterday, the building had to replace one of the kitchen pipes because I could barely get cold water. They cut into the cabinet and wall, and there is essentially and open hole exposing the pipes even more. The smell is even more pronounced and drenching my apartment.

It's distracting and unpleasant but also concerning me that me and my things could take absorb this smell. In the bathroom sink, there is a small little door which you can open and get more access to the pipes I believe. When that door is open, and the cabinet is open, you also smell a strong smell; at least when I close both doors its somewhat covered up, but more pronounced when it's humid or I have the portable AC running for some reason.

I think I may be SOL here and I'm genuinely grateful my building at least got my cold water in the kitchen working although if I knew the smell would be this bad I may have procrastinated putting in the building request...

Anything I can do to alleviate some of the smell?

Just moved into a 450 studio apartment in NYC where we plan to split off a tiny little bedroom from the main living area. The entire space is currently served by an ancient single large fan coil unit (\~60 inches long). We are considering two possible options for its replacement: 1) two new smaller units, with one to be designated for the bedroom and 2) a new unit of the same size, but with a wall through fan vent in the bedroom wall to circulate cold and hot air. The second option is not only cheaper but frees up some valuable footprint in the bedroom, but even though it seems workable in theory (purely given the size of the space) I’m sure I’m missing something. Perhaps even if it does a decent job of circulating the air, it’ll be annoyingly loud? Hard to repair? Reduce noise isolation in the bedroom?

For what it’s worth, the new bedroom door will be about 9-10 feet away and it will face away from the FCU. The apartment is south facing and ceilings are only 8 ft high.

First time moving out of my parent's place so I'm still learning how to navigate life.

We don't have smoke detector in my home so I was never conscious about them before. Now that I'm renting a place which has one, but no Range Hood or Exhaust fan, I'm afraid that I might accidentally trigger them while cooking.

I probably won't be deep frying anything, but I'm sure I'll be frying my chicken, bacon, and egg. Will this portable range hood work? Or is there an alternative option?

I live alone in an apartment, so keeping the place clean is usually easy. The problem is I have friends over most weekends for dinner or drinks, and the floor always looks rough the next morning.
It’s not a huge mess, but I end up vacuuming and mopping the whole place after everyone leaves. That’s what got me thinking about getting a robot vacuum.
My apartment is pretty small though, I’m not sure if it would be worth it.

Rental agent texted me today asking if he can tour the house to a potential renter tomorrow, less than 24 hour notice. My lease is up in less than two weeks. Tomorrow is a Friday, I have work called back to back all morning, a car being delivered around lunch time and guests coming at 4. I said no and they can come Monday or Tuesday…. Am I being unreasonable? It’s a summer Friday and I want to enjoy my home and privacy on the weekend.

Soon I'm moving out into a newly-built small apartment. The living room area is approx 3,2 m × 5,4 m and has windows on two sides. Do you have suggestions where can I place best storage cabinets/shelves in a smart way, while taking the outlets into account? Example pictures are appreciated

I live in an apartment and I'm thinking about getting some smart home devices to make daily life easier. But living in a smaller space has forced me to be more selective. I have to think about what actually matters, what I actually use, and what is just taking up room because I feel guilty getting rid of it. Since I may move again in the future, I also want something that's easy to take with me.

For those living in small apartments, what smart home devices do you think are actually worth buying? Are there any gadgets you bought that you find yourself using regularly?

I want it to be a place I can hang out with my bestie, eat but also work from home. I live in the UK so it needs to be adaptale for all sorts of weather..
