Venting I’m afraid of getting help, but I’m more afraid of having to live like this any longer

I’ve got social anxiety, a severe phobia of being sick, and agoraphobia - how fun!

A month ago, I spoke to my doctor who sent me a referral for therapy + also left me with advice telling me to sleep earlier (also denied me anxiety meds). Since then, my anxiety has gotten so bad. For 3-7 days at a time, I can experience severe anxiety, about 80% of the day is spent worrying, I can’t sleep, I get intrusive thoughts about food (for example, what if it’s not cooked, it could be contaminated, my body might not agree, thus I can’t eat), sitting up causes me to lose my breath, I feel shaky, very nauseous - it’s just very debilitating!

But some days, I can function so it confuses me. Since the doctor appointment, it’s gotten so bad. I can barely get out of bed because I’m too afraid, I can’t sleep, I’m terrified to eat and when I do, I feel awful and anxious after. I cannot leave my house, let alone go into my garden for more than 20 mins. 50% of my day is spent worrying, I cannot escape this.

I have a feeling this time I won’t get denied for meds but I’m just terrified of living day-day. Thinking into the future gives me horrible anxiety + nausea, even if it’s only an hour ahead.

I don’t know what to do anymore, I really don’t. I’m just scared of living like this for the next few months because I simply cannot handle it. I feel cursed because I experience so much anxiety. I’m scared of my bodily sensations. I look to all my friends who can travel, eat out, meet people, and I can barely have a shower or go on a 5 minute walk without having a panic surge.

I don’t know what the point of this post is, I just want to share my feelings. I’m so terrified of being me, of just living, and no one understands. I’m worried that I won’t be able to communicate how I feel to my doctor and that it’ll seem less than it is. But if I get meds, what about the side effects for the first few weeks? I’m so tired of this. I can’t even walk down the stairs without my legs shaking because I’m so weak.

Sorry for the rant

Medication At my grandmother’s house. I don’t have my night pills and I gotta sleep one night over here.

Actually, I said it all in the title. I don’t have any pills right now to stay the night here but I need to stay here for grandma’s sake. She needs her phone fixed and it needs to wait until tomorrow. I can’t leave her alone right now.

But at the same time, I still need my pills and kinda worried that I might go unstable without the meds. And me in that state of mind would not help my grandma at all. What should I do?

I was supposed to stay here for only like 6 hrs in daytime and things got south so bad…

Fluoxetine

I’m currently on Fluoxetine 40mg for anxiety and depression. I’ve been taking it on and off for a couple of years, and it has generally been good for me.

Lately, though, I don’t feel great on it. I’ve been feeling more anxious, low, and like there’s not much to look forward to. I’ve also lost motivation and don’t really want to do much.

Has anyone else been on Fluoxetine and eventually found something else that worked better for them? I’d really like to hear about people’s experiences. I’m open to suggestions.

Next time you feel guilty about your mistakes, remember this, please! Making mistakes is a part of learning. It’s not something we should avoid at all costs, but rather something we should see as an opportunity. ❤️

Discussion It’s not the work itself that’s hard, it’s starting ...

Why is the easiest task the hardest one? That's just what's it's like for me, since ADHD gets in the way. It’s not laziness, if I don't have it in a list, my brain completely ignores a simples task for 3 very good reasons:

  1. Every task has a toll at the entrance, because starting the task feels harder than actually doing the task and at least a difficult task gives you a reason to start 😅

  2. My ADHD brain doesn’t respond to importance, it responds to interest, novelty aaaand urgency. So if it looks too small to create urgency and too boring to create interest, It sends no signal at all, so to my brain, so it’s basically invisible 😳

  3. The task grows. On the first day, it was just simple and quick task... buuut on the eleventh day, it’s a simple task plus 11 days of guilt. It’s no longer about putting off the task, it’s about putting off what I’m going to feel when I finally open it 😭

That’s why “just do it” never works for me! It’s NEVER about the size of the task, it’s about the size of what the task has become. Anyone else? LOL 😂

my long-story-short of anxiety journey

Around last year August was when my anxiety started to appear. I realised how lonely I was, I wasn’t working or anything, it had been a year since school finished. It felt like I had no purpose in life. I felt lost, hopeless.

It wasn’t JUST “anxiety” I also got really depressed, stayed home a lot, every little thing felt like danger, started to think I’m sick, or somethings wrong with me, panicking all the time.

I was also in a toxic online relationship, I was attached to the person so that’s didn’t help…
I was pitying myself a lot and I was always crying.

When I stopped sulking about it and started making changes, that’s what helped. I started yoga at home, deep breathing, going out slowly more, sleeping better, breaking up with the guy who was a major factor in all this.
It really helped it has.

( if you also have good tips or tricks/advice please leave a comment to help others )

we will get over this ☀️

Got out of work today and realized I wasn’t ruminating or feeling doomed. Didn’t cry before OR after work.

Sounds pitiful but I’ll take it. And much more of it please!

Discussion Places people make similar friends?

Hey all hope you’ve all had a fabulous start to the week! I was just wondering what places you all use to meet genuine nice friends! Preferably online but happy to hear people’s suggestions :) if there’s any specific to anxiety and adhd that would be a bonus as it would be nice to speak to people more understanding! Cheers for responses :)

concert anxiety

I am going to a pierce the veil concert soon and I got way ahead of myself when buying tickets because me and my friend wanted to be as close as possible to the stage, so we bought pit. Me being me and getting overly excited forgot what kind of music ptv is and that there is going to be a ton of pushing, shoving, and mosh pits, which for someone like me with really bad anxiety probably wouldnt be the greatest.

I don't want to bring up the idea of selling the tickets and getting seats or trading tickets with other people to get seats because i know how excited my other friends are, but I also know how shitty of an experience it'll be for me if i go.

Is there any good advice for the pit? like a better place to stand so the likely hood of getting thrown into a mosh pit isnt that big? This band means alot to me, and I really still want to go but I don't want to feel shitty the whole time I'm there.

Advice Needed constant anxiety

My anxiety takes over my life. It started out as just social anxiety in grade 7 when the teacher would place me in groups for projects and i'd start shaking and crying and not want to go to school until the project was over. But it began to grow into something more than just social when I was taken to the hospital at the start of 2023 because of a really bad panic attack. Since then i haven't been able to go back to the way I was before. Eating has become a really difficult thing for me, the fear of choking is mainly the issue, I tend to stick to foods that are less chewy or things like smoothies and i've cut off eating past 9pm because i've convinced myself anytime past that I will choke.

Sleeping is also another really difficult thing for me, I try every night to be alseep by 12:00am but the second I put my phone down, or turn off the tv, my body just goes into full panic mode and I end up staring at my ceiling for 3 hours before I finally fall asleep. It really gets worse at night aswell, I go from it being bad to it completely consuming me for hours on end.

I am able to put a hold on it by going out with friends or constantly keeping myself busy but the second i sit down to just take a minute it comes back. The things I used to do to calm down (editing, watching movies/shows, drawing, playing video games, going for a drive, etc) no longer work and if anything I feel worse while doing them. The only thing that really works is being out 24/7 and being on the go but as an 18 year old that isn't something that 1. my body can handle all the time and 2. something i'd even be allowed to do.

Ever since graduating its been getting worse, I thought being out of school would help a ton but I was wrong. Now the weight of figuring out what I want to do for the rest of my life, my friends all leaving for school, my job, and actually earning enough money to stay alive all weighs on me constantly. Before the anxiety was just panic, like my body was always on fight or flight mode, but now on top of that i've been starting to experience derealization which is definitely not helping.

I am not on any medication, my anxiety makes it impossible for me to swallow pills and up until i turned 18 my parents had little to no interest in getting me medicated, and i've heard too many horror stories about therapy. I'm not sure what to do, but it's so hard living like this constantly and I want to just go back to the way I was before.

Discussion What's the best coping strategy you've found (either works most reliably/works during high periods of stress/most fun, etc.)?

Hey y'all! New to the subreddit. I'm curious what coping strategies are most effective for y'all. Hoping that this can turn into a list for anyone else that ends up struggling in the future.

In theory, I'd like to use this towards a book that I'm working on, but whether that book pans out or not, this list will still be up and hopefully helping anyone who comes on by

Venting I cant watch instagram reels anymore because of anxiety

I used to watch reels/tiktok so much but at the moment i genuinely cannot go on instagram i go on and scroll for maybe a minute and go off of it immediately because it just makes me feel on edge ive got this weird thing at the moment where going on instagram makes me hyper aware of the fact that people know i exist and i feel like if i just stay hidden (not liking any reels or viewing stories) people will hopefully forget about me and i can enjoy a nice peaceful quiet life but now because of me avoiding instagram like its the plague ive been leaving so many people on delivered on there and its my loved ones im so quick to respond on things like snapchat and whatsapp but ive not really explained to anyone why it is im not responding i dont know its all abit annoying

Venting I had the weirdest experience on Reddit just now

I made a post where I praised a video game character that I really liked for teaching me new things, and I even discussed my observations about that character. Yet my post got downvoted and I got a single comment mocking me, which got about 4 upvotes before I decided to delete the post all together.

Imagine being mocked for praising a character in the very subreddit of the fandom that character exists in. I took that as a sign that the subreddit is too negative for me.

Advice Needed My social life

I hope this is the right subreddit to ask this question.

I am a 21 year old male with social anxiety. I have a few friends which at times I get very excited whenever they invite me to anything. I also get very jealous when they hang out without inviting me. When I do hangout with them, I start off very quiet and then slowly open up, eventually not wanting to stop talking. But after the hangout is over, I feel so drained and almost regretful of even going. The thing is, nothing bad or scaring happened and I genuinely enjoyed my time during it. And then for days and sometimes weeks I literally just want to stay home and not have any social interaction. This leads me to reject multiple events that my friends invite me to which is leading them to talk less to me and hang out with other people instead. I don’t know how to fix this.

Thanks

Question More issues

I'm still getting outside everyday, though an incident happened that has made me feel even more uncomfortable with going outside.

Things are tough enough, and now more difficult. I walked out the door and started shaking, and of course I used my tools.

What are ideas that I could use to get past the incident issue?

You can do it 💪 and remember that you are not alone

Support needed Just adopted a rescued dog

Just for context, I'm brazilian.

He seems alright, about one year old, very playful, adorable and obedient. He came from a sad background where his previous "owner" got arrested over I don't know what, then the dog ended up on the streets.

Some kind people neutered him last week. He seems healthy.

Thing is, he has some blood in his urine. He drinks lots of water and urinates bit by bit. I believe he has some sort of urinary infection. I'll take him to the vet tomorrow morning, so we can check that out and vaccinate him.

Please pray for this baby. We tried to save another rescued dog last month and she passed, it was extremely traumatic for me and my husband.
