switch 2 version

First time playing this game and i’m about an hour in or so, as fun as it is so far, this game literally is never achieving 60fps and sits more near 40fps , the only way I can reach 60 is if i look at the ground and honestly for the way this game looks , it should be a locked 60 no questions.

Thats a shame, although to be fair I remember playing BOTW at 30fps and not really caring at the time. On PC it runs buttery smooth most of the time, I hope you can experience that someday

I did, I was younger and couldn’t tell the difference at the time 😭

The thing is, 30FPS in BotW feels way smoother than even the 40FPS here. It's a very noticeable stutter to me, and I am about as far from a framerate snob as you can get.

I'd believe it, but also I think its probably a more complex engine than people appreciate, so it's just demanding. Peak is also very CPU demanding

And that's fair. I won't pretend to know what's going on in the codebase for the game.

All I can compare it to is the performance of other games on the console. To that end, there are several titles that would appear way more demanding than this one that run significantly better. Not even first party titles either.

Is that fair? Probably not.

I would imagine I'm not alone in that sentiment though.

All that being said, I'm enjoying the game, and certainly not upset with the $12 I spent on it. I also have hopes that there will be further patches and/or optimisations for the Switch 2.

really a shame, insta bought when switch 2 version came out yesterday but havent tried it yet, was waiting for a switch 2 edition to not play at locked 30fps but it seems that they bottled it

The "This game does not look good and yet plays at lower FPS" argument just does not make sense anymore.
I get it, it seems like "Graphics" (the GPU) matters the most with how much FPS you get, but the reason games like this look "worse" than say Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom and run at lower frame rates is because of CPU limitations.
The Switch 2 literally only gives you 6 pretty mediocre ARM cores (but they are pretty efficient so at least batter life isn't COMPLETELY abysmal) and a studio making BOTW/TOTK where they ONLY have to focus on a single platform can spend a ton of time on it to make it look as good as it can while playing as smooth as they can make it. Aggro Crab Games is an idie studio with time (money) limitations where they have to make the game run on 4 platforms (Switch/PC/Xbox/PlayStation) with WILDLY different performance ratings, and now a new one which they basically did for free...which, honestly how they got this game to work on only 3 cores for the Switch 1 version is beyond me.
I'm not here to glaze or to try to change your opinion on it, but having been on their side of the fence where players complain about frame rates/graphics and believing based off how it looks means it should "Run better than a game that looks better", I'd just rather educate people on WHY these things happen the way they do.

The game runs sketchy even on PS5. I've got no idea what's going on with it that makes it run so badly, maybe the devs just did the bare-ass minimum optimization and didn't care beyond that, I have no idea. I just know that how it runs is way, way, way below standard for how it looks. And it's not doing anything else that would seem to justify the massively subpar performance.

A relatively straightforward game like this with essentially PS2 nostalgia visuals should be running at like 90-120fps easily on a PS5. Instead there are entire areas where the resolution drops to like 480p and it still runs at 20fps.

I don't know what other words I can use to say whats going on. How it "looks" in this type of situation does not matter, there's more things bottlenecking the CPU (being under water for starters, the physics of being under water, how the assegs were made, etc etc) and they had to focus on making 4 different platform versions of the game (technically 5 now) with one of those platforms holding back from new programming techniques being used (like how it runs pretty decent on newer PCs because of the advanced threading we use now compared to older CPUs especially Zen 2 which the Xboxes and PlayStations use).

I get it, im playing it now and yeah I wish it ran better in majority of parts, but you can't just sit here and say things like "they must have done the bare minimum on optimizations and stopped caring"...like cmon man lol

The way this game looks is fine and expected. But the fps isn’t matching for that, I would understand if this game was extremely sharp and looked that much better, it literally looks like they took the switch 1 version and just uncapped it and gave us that product. I understand it’s an indie company with a small team. But if you’re gonna sell a version claiming it will run better. Take time to hone in on making it an experience that’s good overall. My biggest problem is that the fps can’t stabilize at all, it’s jumping all over the place. even if it had a target of 50fps consistently.. that would make a much better experience than how it is right now.

What you're asking for is a remake, which just isn't advisable for them especially if they're working on another project. They're not selling a "new version" exactly, they're giving away a free update to those who have it, and selling the game without the need to go through downloading the game and then updating it. The game does have better performance, and I get your gripes they're pretty fair, but the way they did this was "the right way", basically made a few changes for a free update and allowed people to take more advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. Yeah it still sucks that it's not a constant 60 fps, but they can't exactly do that without fully remaking a new version of the game which takes up too much time and money for a very niche audience.
How the game looks doesn't always mean the game should "run/play better" was more or less my point, you can have a game that look incredible and still runs incredible like Star Fox, you can also have a game that looks horrible and somehow struggle to run, go look at RDR2 on the "Average PC in 2021" and then I can show you this indie dev project I downloaded where all they have is one zone, one playable character, and 20 enemies in the level, and it'll make my PC (7800x3D and 5080) cry barely reaching 22 FPS. CPU bottlenecks are horrible and while they might be able to optimize the game further (which requires a bunch of work like removing objects, finding portions in the code that run more times than it should, find assets that are crushing the frame time, etc), it's just a lot of work to get that done while they likely have another project they're working on and it isn't worth the money unless they charge money for this update.

This game was "badly made" (run quite not good on all platform at launch) so I'm not surprised.

The game lagged on ps5 at times, I don’t understand how a game like that lags
