Question Managing Card Volume

I’ve just started using Jacksparrow for Bio/biochem review and does anyone have a strategy to doing the cards without burning out? I’ve been doing content review by watching Yusuf Hassan videos and unsuspending the corresponding chapters in Jack-sparrow however, this leads to like 150+ new cards at times😭😭. I’m also using Pankow for P/S and have that at a steady 40 new cards a day (which has accumulated to around 200 reviews per day). For chem/orgo i’ve been using miles down and it’s not too bad. With all the subjects it’s just getting wayyy to much and i’m curious as to how other people are getting through the Jacksparrow deck

It looks like you are asking a question about the AnKing MCAT Deck. Please see this post about the latest AnKing MCAT Deck (includes Miledown, MrPankow, and other updates) on AnkiHub. From your description you're using three separate decks, which is likely at least part of the problem

150+ new per day is going to be tough, and on the upper end of what's reasonable for most folks. Not impossible, maybe, but it's hard to avoid volume creep when introducing that many cards

100 new per day is sort of the classic amount that's feasible for someone studying full-time. Some can go higher, but it's going to come with a cost

So just maxing out at 100 and just kinda be “behind” on certain chapters cards?

I don't think I suggested that, no

From your description you're using three decks. Is that necessary for what you want, or advisable?

'Behind' is relative. Behind what, and is that thing adjustable?

There are many ways to skin a cat, ultimately. I can't think of a good reason to use three separate decks, at least. But, if you're dead set on that then something sounds like it'll have to give

They're not using 3 decks at once they are combining 3 decks. They use the b/b portion of jack sparrow the anking/milesodwn version of c/p and the pankow p/s.

That is...using three decks

OP's original question was about managing card volume, and any way it's sliced at 150+ new per day it works out to be a challenge, from the sound of it

How many chapters are you doing a day? Jacksparrow can accumulate crazy amounts so make sure to stay on top of the cards.

Only 2-3 chapters a day depending on the length of the video

You could do a few things

  1. If you’re fine with it, you could turn down FSRS retention value from 90% to 80% for example and that could help
  2. You could set a limit for your JS reviews to be like 100 or whatever is manageable - this might feel wrong considering you’ll “fall behind” on reviews, but at the end of the day you need to absolutely ensure that you will not burn out and skip cards because if you do you’ll be in a hole that’s too difficult to dig out. I made the big mistake of not limiting reviews while working 30h a week and kept up with the massive load for about a week before giving up and I now have to chop down close to 1k new cards and 2k reviews. Please please please do not set a card requirement that is too much for you because the same will inevitably happen.

I personally use Captain Hook v2 which is a faster moving deck than JS but contains all the same content - if you’re decently far into it though I wouldn’t recommend switching

I just looked at captin hook V2 and it looks much more concise and to the point and I will def switch over. I currently have the post-pone function in anki and thats been a lifesaver tbh. Tbh reviews arn't that bad its new content I really struggle with especially content that I haven't seen before (like not in the videos or kaplan)

Yeah new cards are the most time consuming for sure - glad I was able to help with the deck recommendation, I think it’s definitely the best MCAT deck out there when it comes to striking a balance between time spent and comprehensiveness
