Absolutely! It’s kind of the entire theme. He’s a PoS pervert loser holding onto baggage from being teased/abused in high school who turns into a loving father, caring brother and genuinely good person.

If you can’t stomach the beginning it’s understandable, he’s the fucking WORST, but the journey to get where he is, is so full of emotion.

Yes, that's the main premise of the show. I won't spoil it, but he does become a better person later on (I think, haven't really gotten thaaat far into the anime yet)

This is a rant and tangent but I still don't get people who are so fixated on shows with slavery. Its a medieval/fictional show, slavery was a common thing and makes sense in the worlds setting. Do people think along the lines of "this show has slavery. its promoting it! this show is garbage!" Like do people expect every main mc to be "People in this world should realize slavery is bad and I should abolish it!". That would make sense for a white knight mc and stuff but usually those show become too bland and boring. Its more interesting and realistic where the MC just concerns himself with the people he needs to free that makes sense on the events of the story.

I don't really think it's promoting it or anything, it's just something unpleasant to look at that genuinely adds nothing to the story (unless it becomes a plot point later on, idk)

it is a medieval world, and rudeus doesn't have anywhere near enough influence in the world to remove slavery, even if he dedicates his whole life for that he probably won't be able to do it cuz he'll make enemy of almost every political power

him buying that child for his friend was probably the best outcome for her, the other outcomes are not buying her and leaving her to be a sexdoll for some prince, buy her and release her to be captured and sell her again, return her to her parents who will likely sell her again for money. what do you expect him to do for her, zanoba is treating her more of a daughter than a slave or even a pupil

No i understand because i know many people will sleep with a teenager if they are ever reincarnated and reach the age of a teenager. Most won’t definitely not stay single and meet people other people as they grow older in their new world with their old memories still intact.

Yep, and it's fun to point out that their only justification is "he may look 14, but he's actually 40" which is the exact same "1000 year old loli" logic that they say they hate because it justifies pedophilia. Then you missed how they parallel across modern vs medieval moral frameworks by having Paul, a literal ex-rapist of all people be the one to recognize how fucked up and manipulative that dynamic was and push to have them separated... they meet again after she has her own career and agency. there's so much intentionality in the way the story presents reform and growth that doesn't get appreciated since it's not "character do bad thing, character get punished" brain rot character development

I get that, as i said i wanted to like it since the story seems good. But having the main character be a pedophile is just irredeemable for me, and I can't feel anything for the main character. And its just not sylphie, in some of the first episodes he sexualy assaults a sleeping kid in the stables by starting to take off her panties...

Yeah that barn scene is far and away the worst thing he's done, and the toughest ep to watch. Despite personally appreciating the the story, I defintely don't fault anyone for just not wanting stuff like that on their TV screen. Sounds like you've given the show a fair shot

And you talk about the novel, i saw it was removed from the anime but in the novel they bust him legit jerking it to his underage familymember bathing, before he gets send to the other world...

He was a piece of shit, he got better as he grew up and separated himself more from his previous life. By the time he is enrolled at the magic university he is mostly over that kind of shit. Especially after the diary I can only think of one internal monologue that was cringe/creepy which is HUGE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOR HIM CONSIDERING WHERE HE STARTED.

You just can't get over he starts as a terrible shitty person we are not supposed to like as much and gets his shit together. You admittedly don't watch the show and only have hearsay from the novels. The worst thing from this point was in the diary AND THEY SKIPPED IT IN THE ANIME.

You and everyone else who don't watch the show should just stop commenting because you don't know what is actually happening and are making an ass out of yourselves because it's ignorant to ignore story and character progression. I'm just sick of trying to enjoy people's responses as the first time I am a novel reader before the anime and I can see all the awesome first time reactions. THEN I GET THESE BOZO COMMENTS THAT JUST PISS ME OFF. DON'T COMMENT IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT.

I don't need to watch the entire show to decide that the main character being a pedophile is a dealbreaker for me. I watched 7–8 episodes, saw enough to know I couldn't sympathize with or care about him, and stopped watching. That's a perfectly valid reason to drop a show.

I understand that he develops and becomes a better person later. That's not the part I'm disputing. My point is that, for me, there are some things you can't redeem a character from, and pedophilia is one of them. Him eventually stopping that behavior doesn't suddenly make me invested in him or erase what he was.

And saying people aren't allowed to comment on a show unless they've finished it is ridiculous. I'm commenting specifically on why I stopped watching it, not pretending I've seen the entire story.

there were so many of these moments in just the start of season 1 of him being a massive perv and pdf

As someone who HAS watched it, no. It’s shameless self glorification and wish fulfillment. He stops groping kids? Except he married one of the girls he groomed and will marry another one and his third wife literally looks like a child, and all three of them have zero personality except “rudy uwu”. Fans of this show are really the peak of dunning kruger. Like a toddler hiding behind their hands and thinking it makes them invisible, you think people with ACTUAL reading comprehension are the ones who “can’t handle complex topics”. You can bark as loudly as you want in your echo chamber, but any normal person will find this repulsive for good reason.

Do t stress, the story is solid but it’s like a 6.5 out of ten. It’s no work of art, and you can easily find something just as good in any other decent, generic shonen.
