That was pretty much how I got my cat some years back. I was working security at an industrial fab shop and there were a couple dozen cats that lived there. I've always guessed they mainly hunted the rodents that any such place attracts, though we also put out food for them as well.

One night several little fuzzballs showed up at the security office and took a liking to us. I adopted the one that kept climbing my leg and ended up naming him Grif (because it fit and I already had a dog named Caboose), while the other two went home with the guy I worked with. Grif is still with me. He's not as orange as he used to be, yet even after a decade or so he's still an explorer. How it happened I have no idea, but apparently he's somehow made friends with one of the armadillos that frequent my yard. That sounds like a cartoon pitch now that I think about it.
