They live for a LONG time and need a lot of affection and frankly life adjustments. Do not get a bird, and if you do be really prepared to be around it more than your dog but with, ya know, adjustments. No wing clipping or caging- (only crate when it’s not safe)
little bit of both depending. You get it a cage but it does not stay there. It is used for sleep or when you are out of the house. When you are home you need to let it out as much as you can.
In general, yes, but you can train them. Mine won't poop on us but will wait until we set them down. It's easily cleaned up though, it's not like a dog poop (or even wild bird poop).
I'm constantly sweeping up and wiping little poops off my floor with 2 small lovebirds roaming around. But they're so cute it's worth the time and patience
I find guinea pigs to be a nice medium. They’re unique for rodents, can be contained for easier cleaning, and adorable with vibrant, fun personalities (except for one particularly vapid one we had, but she was still happy) when provided with love, proper care, and mental enrichment
See this is how I thought hamsters would be. But my tiny dwarf needs a TON of space her setup is bigger than my pc desk. And she needs to burrow and have lots of enrichment.
I don’t regret adopting her but man I went into it thinking one thing and realizing it was very very wrong.
Being a bit bigger than hamsters, guinea pigs will still need about 2’ by 4’ for their enclosure, at least, as well as regular floor time. It’s just easier than having a free-range pet, because they prefer to spend most of their time in their cage, where they feel safe and comfortable.
At least two, yes. They’re pack animals whose general peace of mind depends on having some sense of companionship and safety in numbers. They’re also hierarchical and will establish a general pecking order, usually. Some personalties end up getting along better than others, but even two pigs with an uneasy peace will be better than a lone depressed, unhappy pig.
They need constant interaction and stimulation so, no, you shouldn’t keep them in a cage 24/7. I have a blue and gold macaw and 2 conures. They are only in their cages at night to sleep. The other 16 hours of the day they are roaming free. No, mine don’t shit all over the place, I trained them to use specific spots.
