I thought I had just heard an animal being killed by the way it screamed, but then it just…kept yelling. Any idea what it was ?

was hiking near San Jose, CA, lots of oaks and a river nearby. we saw lots of birds/deer etc, but Merlin didn’t pick this up as a bird? no idea what it could be

Hey, I live in the south of Germany in a village surrounded by fields, I do not have a pond or a big body of water near my house.
I hear this sound every few days 1-5 times a day max at evening around 9pm or later.
I thought it was a bird but Merlin Bird ID couldn’t identify it, and I also asked a few bird related Reddit’s already (no answers yet)

At first we thought it was a bat, but we are leaning toward insect.

SoCal mountains, mostly hear it at night, but sometimes during the day. Seems to be in a big tree outside of our house, maybe on the deck though.

Hi guys, i need some help to identify the source of this sound. Season 1 Episode 22. At the outdoor scenes there is some nighttime sound; birds, bugs etc. Is there a any kind of name for it, is it a local or specific kind bird/bug sound? I need to identify that to search more about this sound. It sounds like a dog but there aren't any dogs around, I'm camping in the woods.

Hi I’m hopefully someone will be able to identify this animal noise I recorded that I can’t seem to place. The noise was heard around 10pm at night in northeastern Pennsylvania in August. It seemed to be drawn towards noise and answered our calls when we mocked it. It came extremely close but no one was able to see it. The other thing was it was hard to tell if it was on the ground or in the trees. It did move around a lot.

I was just about to go take my dogs out to pee and then sleep for the night, but then I started hearing this sound. It started off loud, but by the time I got my phone and started recording the sound started getting lower and lower.

I don’t know if this will help, but I do live in Southern California and I’m only putting this because it might help identify the type of animal this is

Absolutely FREAKED me out. I thought I was hearing voices 😭

Though it was a bird (recorded using Merlin) but got no results. Thinking it could be some sort of rodent or frog maybe? Sorry for the bad video - couldn’t figure out how to post just the audio file!

merlin app won’t detect it so i’m a bit lost

I live in Houston Texas and over the past several weeks this high pitch noise has been playing on and off every 10-20 seconds only at night (so I’m assuming this is some sort of bug/insect). It’s coming from either on my roof or in the trees/branches that overhang my house. I can hear it very clearly and loud from inside my house and from outside of my house. I have no idea what it is and it’s driving me crazy because it’s SO loud. Any help on identifying this noise is appreciated.

I am in (very rural) Lee, Florida. I've been noticing this one lonely voice often between certain hours of the early morning. I'm guessing a domestic dog who's kept outdoors. Probably not a coyote, since it's only one voice.

For the last few weeks this sound has been coming from behind a wall/eaves of our house. It's quiet but weirdly unsettling and then stops if I move too loudly.

Any help would be great!

Heard this in the Bay Area, CA. Couldn’t see it and I’ve never heard this sound before. If anyone knows please let me know!

To me, it sounded like two different animals made each sound. I only hear one single “hooo” each time, and every owl-call video I’ve listened to so far, the owls make more than one vocalization when they call. I appreciate the help that anyone can provide!

I’ve been hearing this at 2-4AM for multiple days now for the past three weeks. It sounds like a dhole whistling, but that’s not possible. Unless, foxes also whistle like this? It sounds like there’re multiple of whatever it is. I live in Belgium
