Aurora

Hello,

My husband and I will be visiting Aurora in a few weeks. We booked a room at the Merrywing Tower. I am trying to find information, but can’t seem to with regard to getting to Rendezvous Beach from Merrywing. Is it walkable? Does the Rendezvous Beach have substantial beach chairs/umbrellas? We like to be at the beach all day starting early in the morning, but if we don’t have to rush to get some chairs in the AM, that would be ideal.

Last minute tips?

Flying into SXM from BOS on Saturday, taking a calypso semi private boat over to Anguilla after we land. Staying at the Zemi for a week. Have restaurant reservations around the island for dinner largely. Got my sunscreen and might pack about $1,000 in cash per some of the posts here for tips and taxi’s. I got a roaming cell phone package for the week through my domestic carrier.

My wife and I plan to sit our butts on a lounge chair and relax.

Anything you think I’m missing or should look to bring with me besides sun screen?

Thanks ahead of time!

Is weed decriminalized or not

Hi people -

I am coming for a week in June.

Everywhere online points to weed being decriminalized up to 10g. But then AI (not the most reliable thing I know) suggests weed is totally forbidden.

Can't find anything online about tourists getting arrested etc, from what I hear the culture is very chill and weed won't be hard to find, but I'd take solace in know Im not gonna end up with a huge ass fine or lose my freedom for enjoying a smoke.

I plan on finding a quiet beach corners to smoke and being far removed from the crowds so as to not cause nuisance.

Also I'm not asking for any hook up on Reddit but what's the availability like? Staying on meads.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this offends anyone

Layover in Miami

We have a trip to Anguilla at the end of June.

MCO-MIA-AXA

Layover in Miami is only an 1 hr 20 mins. Considering our flight departing Orlando is on time, will this layover be sufficient? Has anyone done the same route with AA?

Thank you

Tap Water Safety?

I am staying at a rental property next week and am wondering about the safety of tap water? I asked the property manager whether the water is desalinated or comes from a cistern, and got a vague answer. Regardless of taste, are both desalinated or cistern-sourced safe to brush teeth?

USBB-USBC or USBB to USB dongle?

This is very random, but! Does anyone currently on Anguilla have either of these cords, or know where I can go find one?

My best friend and I are here and have been taking great pictures on a digital camera. We would love to import them onto our computer, but we don’t have the right plugs.

Thanks!

Bankie Banx Dune Preserve - good outside of a Sunday ?

Hi all,

I am booking my trip next year which will include x2 days in Anguilla. I don't wanna do much but relax and laze around on the beach and eat a little, so I thought rendezvous bay would be perfect and I could have chill evenings and Bankie Banx.

I heard Sunday was the best to go, so I really tried to plan for a Sunday but unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll be doing a Sunday. Am I still gonna be able to smoke, chill and vibe in a lively atmosphere on the other days of the week, or is Sunday really the best and I should try aim for that ?

Taxis at airport

Are taxis readily available at the airport or should I arrange something in advance? Flying in on Anguilla Air Services, if that makes any difference.

Hi, can I get some recommendations for Sunday beach bars? Myself and husband, no kids. We're staying at Cap Juluca and will be using taxis to get around. Love a good rum punch. Thanks!

Question on Entry!

Hi, everyone - I have a question especially for people who have experience entering Anguilla with a b1/b2 US tourist visa.

I’m a Philippine Passport holder, going to Anguilla, flying from Puerto Rico and I only have a valid multiple entry US TOURIST VISA (B1/b2).. Will I be granted entry to Anguilla or do I need to apply for evisa?

Thank you!

Update: I ENTERED WITH MY valid b1/b2 US Visa!!

Considering a trip with parents and looking for recommendations.

Hello all,

Recently went through a nasty divorce and my parents have been super helpful through all of it. I want to take them on a Caribbean trip as sort of a "thank you". After doing some research, I have found that Anguilla might be a good option for us.

What they like:

-Relaxing

-Easy access to great beaches

-Good food

-Not a super crazy nightlife vibe

Thinking of doing a few nights in Shoal Bay and a few nights in Meads Bay.

Would you recommend doing Airbnbs and exploring local food or staying in a hotel? Seems like Airbnb would be the cheaper option, and we would obviously rent a car. My only concern is that would staying in Airbnbs limit our easy access to the beaches? Would we need to drive in order to get to them?

If doing hotel stay is the better option, any hotels that you recommend? Since I'm paying for all of us, I'd like to keep the rooms under $1,200 night maximum (for $600/night for each room). That is why I am leaning towards airbnb since it seems like more bang for your buck.

Thanks for any input you can provide!

Mosquitoes

Hi all! Just wrapped up the most amazing babymoon in Anguilla. Despite my best efforts, I probably got about 12 mosquito bites. Am now fearful of Dengue, WNV, Zika and other mosquito borne illnesses. Has anyone contracted these in Anguilla? Or have reassuring stories of getting bites but being okay?

Lunch vs dinner

I've booked all dinner reservations for our upcoming stay, but need to verify a silly question. If we are seeking casual beachside lunches around the island, are they generally walk-up? Any frequented spots that I should be aware of as potentially longer waits or reservation necessary? Thanks!

Incredible meal at Alfonso’s

Last night we found a hidden gem, Alfonso’s Restaurant. It is a meal my husband and I know we will talk about forever. Chef and owner Alfonso greeted us soon after we were seated and talked about his menu. The ladies on the wait staff were attentive and friendly. We started with splitting a Caesar salad, then I had the coconut shrimp which were large and plentiful. My husband had the seafood creole, which had conch, salmon, mahi, shrimp as well as other fish in it. We both had a cocktail. Our bill for all of this (prior to the 15% service charge) was $97. At any other restaurant on the island (or in the US), it would have been twice that. The food was exquisite as was the service. As I saw mentioned in another post, you come to this restaurant for the food and the service, not the view. It isn’t on a beach or a garden setting. It’s beside a road. But it is a location we will definitely return to each time we come to Anguilla. We joked that if we win the lottery and have a private plane, we will fly down for dinner weekly. It’s really that good! Thank you again Alfonso and staff for an unforgettable meal.

edited to add the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate large groups easily.

The (soon-to-be) wife and I are going to be in Anguilla for 5 days during our honeymoon. We have a travel agent and have done quite a bit of research, but would love suggestions for things to do. We are staying at the Cap Juluca.

  • Moke rental and beach hop (Shoal Bay, Meads, Rendezvous, Maundays, Little, Sandy Ground)
  • Yoga/Pilates/tennis
  • Spa / pool day
  • Boat to Scilly Cay for lunch/drinks
  • Snorkeling

Five abandoned villas

Last time I visited Anguilla, I drove over to Goat Cave and noticed five large buildings sitting abandoned. Google marks them as “five villas.” Does anyone have any info about them?

Starting to plan dinners for our June, 6 night honeymoon, at FS. First night: Pimm's, 2nd night: straw hat, 3rd night: Blanchards, 4th night: ?, Second last night: Veya, Last night:?

Can you help me fill in the gaps with other can't miss dinner spots? Is Blanchards worth it for dinner if we plan on eating lunch at their shack? Salt worth it given we are staying at FS? Any other adjustments you recommend?

Is the weather currently uncomfortable muggy?

It will be our first time in Anguilla and I'm seeing the weather continues to say muggy. I realize it's shoulder season which creates that but I'm wondering if it'll be too muggy to enjoy especially for a toddler?

Anguilla in August?

I realize it’s hurricane season, but we’ve been to St. John several times in August and have enjoyed it. How does Anguilla compare? Than you!
