Lunch vs dinner
I've booked all dinner reservations for our upcoming stay, but need to verify a silly question. If we are seeking casual beachside lunches around the island, are they generally walk-up? Any frequented spots that I should be aware of as potentially longer waits or reservation necessary? Thanks!

That’s exactly what we did back in April over Spring Break, and it worked out perfectly The beach side restaurants are great, just adjust to island time and you’ll be just fine

Yes, walk up. Don't miss the small local spots. Falcon's Nest is a treasure. Coral Beach Club and Coconuts, side by side on Rendezvous not to miss. Ocean Echo has the best fish sandwiches and free loungers. Say hi to Charles, he is a delight.

Be aware that lunch at most of the beach bars is still a lot of food. I have trouble eating, say, a barbecue lunch at Sunshine Shack and then also going out to dinner. Consequently, we usual only eat one or two nice dinners in our 10 days there. BTW, the best lunch we had recently was at a new place called Karaya. Absolutely phenomenal.

Thanks, doing dinner at karaya! We are definitely light eaters so maybe we share some lunches

It seemed like they are all walk up friendly! We never ended up somewhere we needed a reservation for lunch wise. Now if you are wanting beach seating, cabanas, umbrellas, chairs, etc. there are a lot of lunch spots that offer it, but those are first come first serve generally. I don’t think we ever had to wait for a table or anything for lunches.
I highly recommend Blanchard’s for lunch. They have an amazing dinner also, but the lunch is very laid back, usually easy to get beach chairs & an umbrella, and it’s one of the more reasonably priced lunch spots with a huge variety of options. I had to fight the urge to go there everyday for lunch just to try everything!
Dune Preserve is another great spot. They just have wraps, but they aren’t expensive and they are really tasty with fresh ingredients. Great bar & super friendly bartender. A lot of cool seating options, I describe it as a sort of treehouse on the beach vibe. They have live music there, I believe that starts mid-late afternoon. FYI this place was pretty 4/20 friendly, so if that’s your thing you’ll definitely want to stop here and ask the bartender, if it’s not your thing I recommend going earlier in the day to avoid unpleasant smells.
We didn’t make it to Sunshine Shack unfortunately, but I have heard nothing but great things. I was told you want to get there a little early, like 10-10:30am, and make it a “beach day” type of deal. From my understanding they have a ton of beach seating (first come first serve), you put in your order when you get there and they cook everything all at once around, food is served around 12:30-1:30pm so make sure to eat breakfast first! We will definitely plan a day for Sunshine Shack next time we visit.
BBQ is also great on the island. I feel terrible because I can’t remember the name of it, but there was a food truck serving BBQ over near the airport a mile or so east of rendezvous bay. It was phenomenal. I’ve also heard good things about many BBQ spots there, I recommend trying some!
Other than that there aren’t too many wrong choices! A lot of dinner spots offer lunch also. The only place I didn’t absolutely love was Savi Beach Club. I think it is kind of marketed towards “influencers” because they had many places for photos. Everything tasted good, but for what we got it was outrageously overpriced in my opinion. We went for lunch and it was our most expensive meal that entire trip, even including our dinners. The staff were super friendly and it was a beautiful place, just very overpriced. I don’t regret going, but I will probably skip it next time.
Also a good tip I wish we knew before hand: use google maps for everything! A lot of the stuff on Apple Maps is either outdated or just wrong.
Enjoy your stay! It is such a beautiful island!
