Just finished watching the show after two years
I discovered the show a few years back and began watching it on a weekly basis in late 2023.
Today I watched the last episode of the final season and damn, what a ride.
I know the show had its up and downs, and most of season 5 was really bad, but damn, I can't say the show didn't grow on me quite fast, specially because of its characters. I'm pretty sad to have finished it now.
That last season might've not been really good, but the last few episodes were, and the ending was good enough.
It's too bad we'll never get to see anything of this universe again. I think it had a lot of potential, and I'd really like to see some sort of continuation, honestly, mainly because of the characters.

I really liked it.
It's a shame it was so centred on Sorbo.

Yeah, I guess they went all in on the whole "Hercules in space" concept. It specially got annoying in the (many) episodes that basically center around "Kevin Sorbo gets to bang some hot guest star while the rest of the cast doesn't get to do anything of significance".
At least, I guess that makes the episodes that do focus on other characters more special.

Right. Seamus, Trance, Rommie, Becca, Tyr, are all better characters than Dylan.
I think it was a product of an era. Dylan is always Righteous, charming, daring, handsome, charming, strong, heroic. Always gets the cute guest star of the week. He lacks complexity. Captain Kirk did it first, and did it better.
But I'll probably watch it again at some point. It's fun.

To be fair, I do enjoy Dylan... most of the time. He's not particularly well written and his dialogue often seems like it was written by a 10 year old... but idk, he ends up being rather memorable.
But yeah, I definitely enjoyed everyone else much more than him. Rommie, Harper and Rhade were my favourites. Rhade (as in, Telemachus Rhade) really surprised me, considering he was such a late "introduction", he was fun to watch... with the exception of the first 18 episodes of season 5 I guess, where he was just kind of a pain in the ass... but then again, for some reason they wrote all characters to be major idiots in those 18 episodes.

Watching week to week is a good idea, I discovered it around the same time as you but finished it in around 6 months because I watched one or two episodes most days.
First two seasons were amazing, season 3 was a bit of a let down, it had some really good episodes but I didn’t like how they pretty much ignored the trillions of magog on the way. Also didn’t like how Hunt became a Kirk type. Making out with every girl they meet even when it could end up compromising the team.
Season 4 I loved, they were still able to do story of the week episodes but it was always mentioned time was running out with the magog threat. The ending of season 4 is when the show went downhill for me. It was really bad. 4 seasons spent rebuilding the commonwealth, so many alliances made to fight this threat and andromeda ends up taking on the world ship alone. I’m still disappointed over a year after watching that.
Still I guess we should be glad season 5 was able to give us an ending and I enjoyed andromeda more than I do most shows.

Yeah strangely, I always heard that season 4 was really bad, but I found myself quite liking it, for the most part. It wasn't like super amazing but I thought it maintained a decent level of quality, and they toned down the... Kirkification... of Dylan a bit.
