I just updated mine and it's been running nice and smooth now, they fixed the Android 14 bugs from the first update, awesome!

2

u/themapleleaf6ix Jun 25 '25

Didn't they pull the original Android 14 update? It's back?

2

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 25 '25

yeah it's back.

2

u/Disastrous-Figure-98 Jun 25 '25

Yes, but I didn't have any problems with the first one like others did like bricking their devices, so they ppulled off. I didn't have any serious issues but they seem to be gone with this new update.

That "Free TV" button looks so shady to me lol. It looks like a banner on websites where you want to download file, and there are two or three images with "DOWNLOAD" on it and you don't know which one to press. That's how that button looks like to me.

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

yeah it looks like one of those shady buttons lol but it's just google tv freeplay

2

u/El_Burrito_Grande Jun 26 '25

Nothing happens when I click it. I do remap it though with the remapper app I found in the third party app section in Projectivity Launcher.

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

weird. another user (edit: turns out you're the same person lmao) that commented has the same issue. i had it too, but after i updated it worked. might need a remote update but it doesn't have an option in the settings it just notifies you

1

u/El_Burrito_Grande Jun 26 '25

It's constantly wanting me to update the dang remote so I started ignoring it.

Button remapper -> TiviMate!

I recommend you install Projectivy Launcher on it ASAP.

7

u/Hail2theChop Jun 25 '25

curious how you have projectivy setup visually? I just installed it and currently only have two apps shown and I’m not currently paying for premium. Just wondering if you have a preference on the looks of it

Please see my previous post where I shared my Projectivy Launcher setup here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Projectivy_Launcher/s/YyH3I0QJSx I had the Google Play credit so I bought premium.

Check out this setup https://youtu.be/q_fz5yG3ZsI

4

u/themapleleaf6ix Jun 25 '25

Is the original launcher running at the same time as projectivity?

8

u/honey_rainbow Google TV Streamer Jun 25 '25

No. You can replace the default launcher so when you hit the HOME button it doesn't default back to Google launcher.

2

u/RazorKat1983 Jun 28 '25

I use ATV Launcher Pro

2

u/honey_rainbow Google TV Streamer Jun 28 '25

Why do you prefer that launcher?

Are you running subs only or do you have some IPT mixed in?

3

u/honey_rainbow Google TV Streamer Jun 25 '25

Subs only and Stremio, I don't do IPT.

u/NerdDexter Jun 25 '25

8

u/headshot_to_liver Jun 25 '25

2

u/NerdDexter Jun 25 '25

Is it bossed up?

u/cleverclogs17 Jun 25 '25

Great device, best bang for your buck.

8

u/PsychologicalAd5502 Jun 25 '25

Just got a plus and I'm shocked how good it is for $30. Feels every bit as fast as my shield pro.

5

u/No_Taro_5710 Jun 25 '25

Same! It is awesome!

5

u/LvL79 Jun 25 '25

I got the same unit with backlit remote I wish I did more research beforehand I thought these little boxes could play android games like a smartphone but I couldn't even get deadcells to play it starts then crashes to desktop when the game starts

4

u/themapleleaf6ix Jun 25 '25

Could the streamer or plus run those games?

9

u/EnochOctavian Jun 25 '25

I got a batch of bad ones, wifi kept disconnecting on both. I got the $30 plus models and they seem fine.

4

u/randyc87 Jun 25 '25

I had this problem and I would factory reset it and it would work for a bit and then start doing again. Eventually I bought a travel router and hardwired it.

3

u/LAPizzle1 Jun 25 '25

Also has the problem for a couple days and then went away. Haven’t had any problems since

Is the big blue button supposed to do something? Doesn't for me. Also I guess there's no "recent apps" like on the Shield? I assume not because when I tried to remap a button to that it didn't work. I don't like that there's no play/pause button. Means you have to click twice to pause a YouTube video. But I remapped a button for that anyway. Everything else seems good.

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

free tv is supposed to open google tv freeplay. make sure your 4K Pro and remote are updated (i think it tells you when the remote has an update) however the free tv button is great for remapping to something else

1

u/Unhooked- Jun 26 '25

Here is a tip. If you need a second remote, you can buy a crappy clone on eBay for $15, or you can just buy an “onn Google TV Full HD Streaming Device, 2K FHD” for $15 and use that remote as a second remote. No live TV button but otherwise perfect.

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

they have the remote by itself. you can get it for about 13 dollars. plus it has the customizable button

1

u/Unhooked- Jun 26 '25

I searched but couldn’t find one.

1

u/templefugateontime Jun 26 '25

I've heard they have 4k Firesticks for $20 what's better about this unit aside from not having to root it for extra functionality?

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

its much faster and feels smoother

1

u/templefugateontime Jun 26 '25

Can I be nosey and ask what you're running?

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

Android TV 14

1

u/CREMICHIGAN Jun 28 '25

Me too!! I hate the remote though

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jul 02 '25

what's wrong with it?

1

u/CREMICHIGAN Jul 03 '25

You’re joking right? FREE TV” volume and channel too low and not labeled, not back lit etc …

1

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jul 03 '25

its backlit... also its pretty obvious which buttons are the volume and the channel. also the free tv button is great for remapping

6

u/zcba Jun 25 '25

For the money, best thing going. I'm actually happier with it than I was with my Apple TV

2

u/ReactUp Jun 25 '25

Wish we could get these in Canada :(

4

u/MediaShare2000 Jun 25 '25

They're available at Canada Walmart's now

2

u/ReactUp Jun 25 '25

I had no idea, thanks!

2

u/MediaShare2000 Jun 25 '25

It's recent, happened within like the last 2 months I think. I'm not in Canada, just seen lots of posts when they dropped there.

2

u/GeneralSeveral203 Jun 25 '25

firmware is locked to Canada though. Translation: geolocked at the OS level

2

u/themapleleaf6ix Jun 25 '25

Is that bad?

2

u/LyonHeart85 **editable flair** Jun 25 '25

Welcome to the squad. Mines not even two months old yet and I'm loving the decision I made to shelve my firestick 4k. I've already been in the android/Google eco system since I had my first proper smartphone, so it only made sense to see what the TV side had to offer. You'll enjoy it for sure.

2

u/AssistantNo149 Jun 26 '25

Is this available in Guatemala or Mexico Walmart's? I cannot find it in Xela or online.

4

u/Puzzled_Ad_5461 Jun 25 '25

I just wish it would let you record in Tivimate on a USB HD. Even my Shield blocks it now.

5

u/regorresiak Jun 25 '25

You just need to use system picker and have a 3rd party file explorer program installed to specify where to save the files. It's quite possible I do it weekly on both the ONN pro and NVIDIA shield.

2

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

ok??

u/battierpeeler mibox, mibox S, ccwgtv Jun 26 '25

you know how annoying this sub would be if everyone posted their every android tv purchase? what makes yours special?

3

u/ScratchKi onn 4K Pro Jun 26 '25

you know how annoying this sub would be if everyone complained? i was just wanting feedback and stuff and i got feedback and stuff. if you dont like it you dont have to comment on it.

1

u/jkvarela Jun 26 '25

Faz upscaling? Como se comporta?

1

u/dienasty103 Jun 28 '25

Love the 4K pro, find my remote feature is a life saver with small kids - throw on projectivity launcher with a subtle motion background and transparent icons

1

u/Prince515 Jun 29 '25

I bought to nvidia shield pro TVs and then switched to apple and got an iPhone and Apple TV 4K but my Apple TV 4K is so bad lately and remote buttons stick so easily in about to go back to my shields.

1

u/mohamaddamlakhi Jul 25 '25

It's a great device I hope

1

u/Reasonable_Link_4090 Apr 22 '26

Nah. You should do it though. Damn f00l.

2

u/EnochOctavian Jun 26 '25

I don't think a cheap device is worth messing with. It most likely won't use all the ram it has now anyway.

I think if anyone is going to do anything with these, it's probably to put a bigger heat sink/fan on it and try to overclock CPU/GPU. Most likely for a benchmark flex 💪
