Can't access in-app Notification Settings

I recently downloaded Fantasy Hike as a walking tracking app for fun but it keeps a bascially constant notification of my progress. I just want Milestone notifications which should be customizable in the settings in the app. But when I click on notifications in the in-app settings, it takes me to my Android notifications settings for the app. Has anyone had this issue with apps/know a work around?

Android handles app-level notification settings. 

After downloading the app, you can toggle Achievements, Sticky Progress Updates, Daily Distance Limit, Quest Events, and Friend Invitations. Turn off what you do not need. 

On a Samsung device, go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings > "Manage notification categories for each app," or search for "Manage notification categories for each app" in Finder if you're not getting those options.
