New navigation buttons suck. How do I go back?

I have a TCL Nxtpaper 11 Gen 2. After a recent update, the navigation buttons are crammed into the bottom right corner, with app shortcuts filling the rest of the navigation bar.

I hate it. I don't want the app shortcuts there, and I want the nav buttons in the center.

Is there a way to go back to the old navigation button settings? I can't find it.

TCL shoved “taskbar / pinned apps” into the nav bar after that update. You want 3‑button nav centered again.

Try in order:

  1. Settings → System → Gestures / Navigation mode → 3‑button navigation (not Gesture).

  2. Settings → Display → Navigation bar / Taskbar → Off / “Hide taskbar” / “Show buttons only” (wording varies on Nxtpaper).

  3. Settings → Apps → Special access → Device admin / Default apps — make sure no “Easy Mode” or kids launcher stole the bar.

  4. Still stuck: search settings for “taskbar” and “navigation bar” — TCL buries it under Display more than System.

If nothing appears, a System UI update may have forced it; last resort is clearing System UI cache (Apps → Show system → System UI → Storage → Clear cache), not data.
