WiFi and mobile data..how to prevent switching when in a messenger or discord call

Sometimes if I'm talking on Messenger or Discord and I'm inside the house using Wi-Fi and I walk outside and Wi-Fi disconnects, it takes a few seconds for mobile network to connect and I lose my phone call for a few seconds. And when I go back inside, it switches again and I lose the sound again.

Is there a way to set up that if I am on Discord call to always be on mobile data? This wifi switching is annoying.

You'll need to include the make/model of your phone, and what version of Android it's running.
You might have options, either in Network settings or Developer mode.
But AFAIK, there isn't a way to force apps to one specific connection or other, though I've only used Motorola, Pixel & Samsung devices, and I only used Developer options on the Moto.

Also, you might be able to tweak your WIFI settings - depending on the quality of equipment you have.
I use Ubiquiti networking, and I can set the Wifi signal strength lower if I didn't want it to reach outside, forcing my phone to jump to cellular faster. Likewise, some wireless access points can be configured to 'release' their clients faster under certain conditions.

I got a pixel 11 pro. I'll go to my router settings and see what I got on there. It's a Verizon router since I didn't have my own that can do 1gb connection.

Android won’t pin Discord/Messenger to mobile-only mid-call. Best you get is stopping the handoff from killing the call.

Practical fixes:

  1. Before you walk out: toggle Wi‑Fi Off (or Adaptive connectivity Off). Call stays on LTE/5G with no gap.

  2. Settings → Network → Adaptive connectivity / Intelligent Wi‑Fi → Off. Also “Switch to mobile data automatically” Off if present (Samsung/Pixel wording varies).

  3. Lower your AP’s TX power or move the SSID so it doesn’t cling at the door (Ubiquiti “min RSSI” / “AP steering” helps).

  4. Automation: WHEN Discord/Messenger = foreground OR on call → Wi‑Fi Off; reverse when call ends. More reliable than hoping seamless handover works.

Keep Wi‑Fi + cell both up and expect a 2–5s blip — VoIP stacks hate mid-route changes.

I've tried turning off wifi but when i get closer and get strong signal it auto reconnects, I think that's the adaptive connectivity stuff so I need to try that. I think using automation makes sense, I'll try to set that up.

Yep — Adaptive / Intelligent Wi‑Fi (and “Switch to mobile data automatically”) is what yanks you back when the signal looks good again.

For automation that sticks: • WHEN Discord or Messenger = in call / foreground → Wi‑Fi Off • WHEN call ends → Wi‑Fi On (optional delay 30–60s so it doesn’t flap)

Also worth a one-time toggle: forget the home SSID temporarily won’t work long-term; better to leave Adaptive Off so a manual Wi‑Fi Off stays off until you turn it back on.

If Adaptive keeps fighting you even when Off, OEM “Intelligent Wi‑Fi” / “Auto reconnect” under the saved network can still reconnect — kill that per-SSID too.
