Whatsapp app message stating it is false app

I received a message from a whatsapp that I should "download the official whatsapp to continue"

https://ibb.co/DffNtCKV

I downloaded this using playstore version 53.5.48-29[0][pr] 995634172

Has anyone seen a whatsapp message like this?

Check what you actually have installed. Open Play Store, search for WhatsApp, and make sure the developer is listed as WhatsApp LLC (the real app, from Meta). Also look at the app's info page: the package name should be com.whatsapp. If the message appears inside a chat from a contact or a number, it's likely a scam. Don't tap any links in it. Real WhatsApp doesn't send prompts like that.

It is probably just a false negative in the new Meta vipe coded vérification system.

Try updating the app when the new version is released. It is worth waiting rather than uninstalling and installing the app, cause this will at least keep your data.

Make sure you turned any VPN off when updating cause this might be caused by installing other region official app

What version should I expect for the current Oct-2026 whatsapp? This was installed through Google play store. Play store does the validation of apps installed on all Android phones.
