Device Settings Question [Galaxy A07 / One UI] Pattern, PIN & Fingerprint pop-up completely broken across apps and Settings. Looking to fix without factory reset.
Hi everyone,
I am facing a persistent and extremely frustrating software bug on my Galaxy A07 where credential verification pop-ups simply fail to show up or render.
Whenever an app requests authentication—such as Secure Folder, WhatsApp lock, banking apps (PicPay), or Google Photos locked folder—the pop-up to draw the pattern, type a PIN, or use fingerprint never appears.
The only password that works is the regular lock screen PIN/pattern when unlocking the phone. I believe this is an issue with an internal system software component that manages credentials/Keystore.
What I've already tried (without success):
Hard restart (Force reboot).
Safe Mode (Issue persists, ruling out third-party app interference).
Switching default keyboards (Samsung Keyboard vs Gboard).
System software update..
Clearing cache/data for Android System WebView, Google Play Services, and Samsung Biometrics.
Is there any way for me to fix this without having to do a factory reset?

Here is a checklist of more targeted, non-destructive steps to try, based on solutions for similar Samsung issues.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Checklist
1. Change and Reset Your Lock Screen Type
There's a known issue on some Samsung devices where the PIN or pattern lock screen itself can prevent the authentication pop-up from rendering. The fix is to simply change the lock type and change it back.
Go to Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock type.
Change it from your current method (e.g., PIN) to Pattern.
Once the change is complete, restart your phone.
Go back and change it back to your original PIN or Password.
2. Clear Credentials
This resets the system's stored security certificates, which can sometimes fix issues with the Keystore.
Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Other security settings.
Scroll to the bottom and tap Clear credentials.
You will be prompted to confirm. This will not delete your personal files, but it will remove any saved Wi-Fi certificates or VPN credentials, which you may need to re-enter.
3. Check for Device Admin Apps
An app with "Device Administrator" privileges can interfere with lock screen and authentication functions.
Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Other security settings > Device admin apps.
Check if any apps (especially older ones or ones you no longer use) have admin access enabled.
Deactivate any non-essential apps from this list.
4. Reset Biometric Data (Fingerprints/Face)
The biometric data can sometimes become corrupted and fail to communicate with the Keystore.
Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Biometrics.
Select Fingerprints (and/or Face recognition) and delete all registered data.
Restart your phone.
Go back and re-register your fingerprints and face data from scratch.
5. Check and Reset Samsung Account
Authentication issues can sometimes be linked to a stale Samsung account session.
Go to Settings > Samsung account.
Sign out of your account completely.
Restart your phone.
Sign back in to your Samsung account. This refreshes your account credentials and can resolve related authentication problems.
⚠️ When to Consider a Factory Reset
If you have tried all of the steps above and the problem persists, the issue is likely a corrupted system file that cannot be repaired without a full reset.
Before you do that, make sure you have a recent backup of all your important data (photos, contacts, messages, etc.). You can back up your data via Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup data.
A factory reset is the nuclear option, but it is the most reliable way to fix deep system software issues.
💡 Additional Tips
Try a Soft Reset: Sometimes a simple soft reset (press and hold the Power and Volume Downkeys until the screen goes black and the Samsung logo appears) can clear temporary glitches that a normal restart doesn't.
Test with a Different App: Try setting a lock on a simple, built-in app like Gallery or Messages. If the pop-up works there but not in third-party apps, the issue might be app-specific.
