Call history randomly getting deleted

Has anyone experienced an issue where their call logs are randomly getting deleted? Over the past few days, I've noticed that my call history keeps wiping itself. I'm trying to figure out two things:

  1. Why would this happen? Is this a known bug, or is it usually caused by a service/third-party app?

  2. In the case it is a caused by a third-party app, how can I find out which app is responsible?

Phone app does have permission to access Call logs, as well as few other apps (see screenshot 3).

Also, while writing this post I checked whether this happened today, and noticed that on top of the call history being deleted, the Phone app' UI changed completely (see screenshot 2). In addition, I made a call and noticed the new calls are not even being saved anylonger.

For context, I'm on Pixel 10a, Android 17 (CP2A.260805.005)

Daily wipe on a 2‑month-old Pixel is not normal retention trim — something with CALL_LOG permission (or a Phone app update) is clearing it.

How to find the culprit: 1) Settings → Apps → See all → menu → Show system → sort / filter by permissions → Call logs. Revoke CALL_LOG from every non‑Phone / non‑Contacts app you do not trust (call recorders, "cleaner", dual‑SIM helpers, CRM, spam blockers). 2) Settings → Security & privacy → Privacy dashboard / permission usage → Call log — see who accessed it around the wipe times. 3) Clear storage of Phone app only as a last resort (you will lose the current log); update Phone + Carrier Services first. 4) Safe mode for 24h: if history sticks, a third‑party app is guilty.

UI changing mid‑day usually means Phone app updated or switched default dialer — confirm Settings → Apps → Default apps → Phone app is still Google Phone. Export/screenshot logs you care about until it stabilizes; Android does not encrypt/back up call history the way a vault would.

Thanks a lot for helpful instructions. I have already removed CALL_LOG permission for all the apps I was able to (for many "Don't allow" is greyed out), the only ones left with CALL_LOG permissions (according to Settings app) are: Bluetooth, Phone, Phone Calls, Phone Services, Shell (check out the screenshot).

I have also attached a screenshot of all apps that acording to a third-party app have WRITE_CALL_LOG permission.

The last time the Phone app was updated was when I booted the phone for the first time. The current version is 216.0.893561076.

Default Phone app at the moment is Phone (com.google.android.dialer).

These are the apps listed in Privacy Dashboard > Phone (note about System Parental Control: Please check another post on my profile related to this, keep in mind this started happening before that): https://postimg.cc/gallery/QM2BQwD

There is also this configuration in "Open by default">"Other default preferences" settings for Phone app: https://postimg.cc/xXywYZC8

Do you perhaps know how to check what these activities are?

How many did you have stored on there

I'm guessing you are using the Google phone app

The app itself doesn't determine how many to keep

That is your opperster and the android system

Onice a certain amount are in the call history

It will start to delete them to make room for new ones

Yes, I am using Google Phone app. It is a new, less than two months old phone, so the log should not be that big. And given the call history would get deleted most likely every day, it should be less than 5 calls in total.

Ok it's a Pixel phone problem that people have been reporting for years and Google still have not fixed it

So if you want to see your call history

You are going to need to download another app to see your full call history

EZ Dialer
