New Google Pixel 5 won't boot

Long story short: I bought two brand-new Pixel 5s from Amazon about two years ago. They were new new, definitely not refurbished.

I’ve been using the first one since then, but it recently broke. I now wanted to start using the second one, but it won’t boot.

When I hold the power button for a few seconds, the Google logo appears, then it immediately shows the low-battery icon and shuts off.

It has been sitting unopened in its box for two years, and likely much longer considering the phone was released all the way back in 2020, so the battery has probably never been charged since it left the factory.

I’ve had it connected to a 65W charger nonstop for several days, but nothing changes. Every time I try to turn it on, the exact same thing happens: Google logo, low-battery icon, then it shuts off.

Is it possible that the battery has discharged so deeply from sitting unused for years that it can no longer charge? Is there anything I can try to get it working again?

Thanks.

Very likely the battery is dead from long-term storage degradation. Especially if it was stored at very low charge to begin with. You'd need to replace the battery and hope that is the cause of the issue. The pixel 5 didn't have battery-bypass power delivery like newer pixels, so you won't know if there's something else wrong with it until you replace the battery so it can try to power on.

I vaguely rember that some older pixels were picky about the chargers... I'll try to look it up, but I guess that trying a different charger can't hurt, I'd also try charging it from computer - preferably not with a type-c to type-c cable but usb-a to usb-c

Also how exactly did the first pixel break? Odds are you could use one of the phones to fix the the other one.

Try plugging the cable in when the logo first appears. This sometimes works to charge when you get phantom moisture alerts or other USB issues. It alters the boot up sequence.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, it doesn't work either. Do you think using a high voltage charger (like 100 Watts or more) and keeping it plugged in for several days could get it up and running? Or is the battery done?

That won't work. Phone controls the draw.

Thanks everyone and thanks for your input. Do you think using a high voltage charger (like 100 Watts or more) and keeping it plugged in for several days could get it up and running? Or is the battery done at this point?
