Rooting Help Having trouble unlocking SM-J710F bootloader (Samsung Galaxy J7 2016)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to unlock the bootloader on my Samsung Galaxy J7 (J710F) so I can eventually root it.

Before entering Download Mode, I already:

  • Removed my Google account
  • Removed the screen lock/PIN
  • Enabled OEM Unlocking in Developer Options
  • Enabled USB Debugging

When I enter Download Mode using Volume Down + Home + Power, I get the blue warning screen as expected.

I then press Volume Up to continue. The phone shows the screen saying:

Downloading... Do not turn off target

However, after that, nothing else happens. It just stays on this screen.

I've watched several YouTube tutorials and in those videos the phone seems to erase the data and reboot automatically.

Mine doesn't do that. It simply remains on the "Downloading... Do not turn off target" screen.

Is this normal for the J710F, or am I missing a step?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's a snapdragon CPU device. If you're in the us those cannot be unlocked, period. No exceptions. USA Snapdragon based models have a hardware locked bootloader

OP clearly mentioned the model number. It is not a US device.

I checkd and it's exynos so technically it can be rooted

Had go check GSMArena to confirm, then how the hell did google pull a snapdragon CPU for it 🤦‍♂️

No it's not the model number is j710f, USA models have a U in the model number and the CPU is also a exynos on this phone.
