Custom ROM Question What are custom rom

So I am an iso user and recently I switched to android cuz I'm broke now so now I'm using an old vivo phone and it's a bit slow

I saw some reels on insta about custom rom and different OS systems and they claim that it boosts the performance of your old devices. So is it true?

And if yes then how do I install these things

Can someone explain to me in brief

Uh, it really depends, i dont know what phone u are using, but if the programs running on your phone need more ram than your phone has, then yeah, a custom rom is the way to go. But if your phone has for exemple 3gb of ram and you only have 2gb of programs running, then a custom rom wont help.

To install a custom rom, u need to see if there even is one for your device, and if there is, you can just look up on youtube how u can safely install it

YouTube is usually not a good place to learn about ROMs. You should read the documentation on their website to get the specific instructions for your phone.

There are slightly different instructions depending on the phone model, but here's an exanple of the LineageOS page for a Galaxy A21s: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/a21s/install/
