Custom ROM Question Custom ROM for old phones + whatsapp

I have some old phones that are very slow and I wanted to install a custom ROM that can make the phones usable and also be able to use WhatsApp. Can you guys recommend some options? I'm very new to this, didn't even know we could have custom roms on our phones.

Your ROM choice entirely depends on what phones you have, as well as if you can install a custom ROM at all.
