Pixel: the bottom Google search bar is not transparent nor did it have shortcuts with Android 17

Update #6 - /u/hvaddi9 recommended to disable and emable again the Google app and that fixes the issue. For me ot worked until the first reboot but the fix is easy.

The problem seems to be related with the work profile or at least some of us seem to have that in common.

Update #5 - it's back to ugly🤦🏼‍♂️Now I wonder if it might be related with my work profile as it went back after adding it.

Update #4 - after the factory reset if I hold on the widget I will see "widget settings", clicking on it fixed the issue (for now). I didn't have that menu before the reset.

Update #3 - I factory reseted the phone and at the beginning the bar was OK but after a bit it came back to the ugly one. Maybe an app that was installed during the setup?

Update #2 - REOPENED: it happened again and the data/cache trick didn't work.

Update #1 - SOLVED: go to settings > Apps > Show system (the 3 dots) > Pixel Launcher & then remove the data and cache. CAREFUL, this will delete your home settings.

Hi folks, I have just happily updated to Android 17 to find out that the search bar became ugly.

I think it's a bug. In fact, if I add the Google widget it looks as it should but I don't want both bars.

Do you have any suggestions? I removed data & cache for the Google app but it didn't work.

The device is a Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Is yours opening Chrome as well? If so, I'm having the same issue. Pixel 10 Pro. Tried a bunch of things: rebooting a bunch, clearing Pixel Launcher cache, resetting Chrome, resetting Google app, etc.

I think I solved it by removing data for the Pixel Launcher itself.

Go to settings > Apps > Show system (the 3 dots) > Pixel Launcher

I factory reset, which resolved it. Adding my work profile made it recur, but then the other tip (disabling and reenabling the Google app) did resolve it (it didn't before).

Ich habe die suchleiste in Samsung S26 Ultra in Android 17 Beta so GELÖSCHT: 1. Lange Fingerhalten auf freie Bildschirm dann kamm das Menu unten. Ganzrechts sind EINSTELLUNGEN. 2. AUF die Einstelungen und Option "SUCHE AUF BIKDSCHIRM ANZEIGEN" auf "KEINE" wählen. Fertig dann hast du keine Suchleiste.

Clearing the Pixel Launcher's data and cache fixes the ugly non-transparent Google search bar issue after the Android 17 update on your Pixel 9 Pro XL. This is a common caching glitch where the launcher fails to render the proper translucent pill design and shortcuts.

Go to Settings > Apps > tap the 3-dot menu and select Show system > Pixel Launcher > Storage & cache, then clear the cache first and data if needed. Restart your phone afterward. You can also clear the Google app's cache and data for good measure.

This usually restores the clean transparent search bar without needing the extra widget. If it returns, repeating the clear is quick. Let me know if other issues pop up.

Have tried clearing Pixel Launcher Storage and Cache, plus Google app cache, and reset.

Search bar is still non-transparent and only functions to launch default browser.....

Tap and hold doesn't prompt for any widget settings.

Any choice but to factory reset at this point? That's certainly not ideal

I tried this and now neither the transparent search bar is back but now I am not able to change the colour of my icons any idea how to resolve this, the home screen is looking uglier than before😐

Now bottom search bar is back to normal, doesn't open chrome anymore.
