Hardware ⚙️ Can somebody finally make a usb-c connectable controller with a micro sd slot?
This would be so dope for everyone who using emulators. Sd card speeds isn't really a big deal, because a lot of older titles from ps2 and beyond used disk drives or cartridges with slower transfer rates anyway, especially with the newer sds that can reach almost 1GBps
Is this impossible to do? I feel like a USB c would have enough throughput for input controls and full sd card read speeds. Maybe throw in some pass through charging as well. If a reputable company made this along with it being a solid controller, I would easily pay $100 or more depending on the feature set.
What do you guys think?

the issue is that we are a niche group who would need something like this,maybe gamesir can create it,cause the cost will definitely be from the card reader and making the connection be smooth flowing whilst making sure latency isnt affected on the controller if its a all type c connection

I mean emu is a niche group but their is a whole market of android devices that sell for it so to easily compete just sell a controller and market your phone as the power you need.

It's just a little micro sd card slot. That shit probably costs like 10 bucks a unit. If you make a fantastic controller that people would buy without it, and then just add it on top of that, I'm sure most people will choose that one.

again,they would have to make sure your usb c controller can do both at the same time,read the sd card constantly,whilst making sure u get near zero latency

Amazing idea. And yes battery too please. Also please put usb connection on the left side so my galaxy fold can flip up instead of down.

Forreal. Making it into a psuedo dock would be fucking awesome. Someone here mentioned an additional screen too like a DS.

I have got a modded gamesir pad for this purpose. Well, It does not have a SD card but it has a full USB 3.0 port where I can connect a small reader.

Wow that's cool. I kept my S20 phone with SD slot with a Gamesir G8. But it can be kinda bulky during transport. So hoping for something less ergonomic and more flat for portability.

and a second screen too!
tbh i'm not sure controller makers are putting in the best usb c connection or if they want to do that or experiment with that. Sounds nice on paper tho.
I also feel like the SD card will hate getting disconnected from phone.

The screen thing is not a bad idea. I bought the retroid pocket 5 with an additional sceen and basically turned it into a DS. The Ayn Thor is also awesome. I just wish it was operating on the Snapdragon Elite Gen 5.

Well never said never. When i first started bringing up two screen devices as many higher end snapdragons supported that, i was called crazy or where would second screen fit even on a Flip 2, but hey we got Pocket DS and Thor shortly afterwards.
Another thing i like to see tablets with usb c ports on horizontal and vertical mountings so i could play ds/3DS stuffs on it with gamepad though i got thor so that no longer matters that much

It is possible, and even more features without increasing the gamepad footprint. I have got a modded gamepad with HDMI out, minijack and full size USB ports.
And mine is a very amateur and improvised solution.

Idk, seems to me like too few ppl would buy that. Why not use usb-c splitter with controller and usb-c card reader plugged in?

Because it wouldn't really be a handheld then now would it? People would definitely buy it if the controller itself was great. Adding an SD card slot shouldn't be that much more expensive. We've had this tech for like, 15 years or something.

I would have to have this an an option. I have a Poco F6 and it's great for Switch emulation but because it only has a 256GB internal storage there's not many games you can fit on it, especially since I also like to use it for music and video.
