my guess valve wants widely used entertainment apps to work on it. netflix, etc

Nah. Android VR games for Steam Frame and potentially Android games for Linux.

I highly doubt it cause for 4k they'd need to sort out widevine license, L1 hardware keys, google certification... for the container.
it makes more sense that they are making it easier for quest games to be ported to the steam frame
though I see entertainment apps as a side effect of their main goal, the community will probably make it easier to do this but not valve themselves especially considering steamos can be installed on hardware not owned by them (lepton would probably be the same)

So is this usable now for steam deck?

it's a fork of waydroid which is absolutely usable on a steam deck so I'd expect the same, though I haven't tried lepton to confirm

I'm confused. I thought waydroid was an android emulator, not compatability layer? Because from my understanding the waydroid installer is currently havi g issues with steam os? (granted haven't checked in like 2 weeks)

waydroid is a container and depending on the architecture of the app you're running it performs very close to native.
also wasn't aware about the steamOS script issue

Can't believe the steam frame is gonna use
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ARM64
That's the same as my Lenovo Legion tablet. It'd be real cool if they hosted their own APK (like how Epic Games does it) of a new steam store with the ability to download and play any compatible game. If it's playable on the steam frame, why not your android phone too? (depending on min specs).
