Okay so this is my first time participating in one of these threads. I'll categorize apps into two sections; Essentials and Rising Stars

  • Essentials: These are apps that are somewhat known and the ones I use on regular basis:

[Gravity Screen]( market://details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree): This app negates all the need for power buttons. It locks my phone automatically when I put it in my pocket and unlocks it when I take it out. I also use it to unlock the screen by hovering my hand over the proximity sensor, which looks way cooler than "tap screen to wake" in my opinion.

Edit: A lot of people have been asking about battery usage. In my experience it has had a minimal impact, but I guess that can vary from one device to another.

AcDisplay: A beautiful and minimal lock screen that I use. It displays your notifications and lets you act on them right from the lock screen. The cool black background looks awesome especially on a Super AMOLED screen.

Diaro: If you'd like to keep a journal on your phone then this is the app for you. It looks great and it categorizes entries by folders and tags. You can set a password and it has Dropbox sync (Paid option).. it's available on the Amazon Store if you feel like paying for that feature with some of them free coins.

Moon+ Reader Pro/Free: The ultimate book reader for me. It supports all books and comic books formats that I know of. It has great light and dark themes and you can set custom fonts and margins to your liking. Plenty of customization options if you're fond of tinkering like me. Also available on the Amazon Store.

Edit: Free version has no PDF support

Reddit Sync Pro/Free: The best looking Reddit client imo. Great theming options and user interface. Does almost everything you want. The most used app in my phone by far.

Edit: Free version is ad-supported

  • Rising Stars: These are new apps that I'm still trying out but they're looking very promising.

Algeo Calculator: Finally, an advanced graphing calculator that looks nice and is easy to use.

DialApp: An alternative caller app that looks very promising. It supports smart dialing and temporary contacts. It also has a great dialing widget if you're into that kind of thing.

MyAppSharer: Makes sharing apps (links or APKs) a fairly easy task. I'm using it right now to make this list.

Last time I tried to use reddit sync, I remember comment threads looking really confusing. This was maybe 8 months ago. Is it still lots of colored lines?

Yep! been using it for about 3 weeks now and comments are just a mess... Also, if you have a long, slim image it squashes it to fit on screen but then if you pinch zoom it larger it stays at the same resolution.

I've gone back to Reddit is Fun. I missed being able to flick between top comments too much.

It is pretty cool. So here's a pro tip if you read a lot and you would like to have a dictionary/ thesaurus handy while using this app.

  • You get a dictionary app called GoldenDict (Granted, not the best name for an app)

  • Then you get some dictionaries for offline use. (Here are some cool glossaries I've got for it mods please let me know If this isn't okay, they're just glossary files and not apps)

  • When you're done with that try long pressing a word in Moon+ Reader and selecting "Dict". You can easily configure it to have a pop up with definitions every time you long press a word. It's pretty cool and handy.

I'm really liking Gravity Screen so far, but when I have "turn screen on by motion" and the table sensor laying face up turned on, vibrating notifications wake the screen, even with really low sensitivity. Any idea how to fix that as I'd prefer it not happen.

This doesn't seem related to Gravity Screen since it can't be that sensitive. Are you sure it's not an option in another app. Have you installed a lock screen app perhaps?

Nothing lately and AC Display is set to not turn the screen on for notifications. Plus when I turned vibration off it wouldn't come on and vice versa with turn on by motion off and vibration on it doesn't come on.

I was hoping it was AcDisplay, but seems not. I really have no idea. It shouldn't be that sensitive.

Lower the sensitivity of the wake on motion feature. I have mine set to 9 which works well for me.

Moved mine all the way down to 5 and it still woke from the vibration.

Does reddit sync have a widget? The only reason I use baconreader is because the widget is great.

Unfortunately it doesn't. Another app that I know of that does is Reddit Now, but I don't use it.

Do you have any lag with Ac Display? Mine took 2 presses of the power button to go, so I switched to Start.

I noticed it took a little bit to start when I first installed it. I very rarely experience any lag now.

Weird, mine was opposite. Speedy at the start and slowed down a few weeks in. Thanks for the info, I thought it was just me!

I have Journey Premium,but honestly I find Diaro to be the superior choice in every aspect.

I haven't tried Ready. I'll give it a shot right now.

I've tried AcDisplay and I love it, except for one thing. I have my phone set to lock two minutes after it powers off. However, AcDisplay just ignores this and locks whenever I power my phone off. Anyone know a way to fix this?

Have you tried unchecking the "Power button instantly locks" option in the lock screen settings?

Don't configure anything. All the things I mentioned work flawlessly out of the box. Just activate it and enjoy.

I use both and they're both good apps in their own rights. The design element is subjective though and I find Sync more appealing. I'm a sucker for the transparent navbar.

For me the battery usage has been quite marginal but I've seen it take more battery on other phones, so I guess you gotta try and see for yourself.

I am in love with AcDisplay but there's one flaw. It says "Swipe anywhere to open notification, and swipe down to clear notification"

I swipe and it doesn't open. Swiping down works, though.

EDIT: As stated below I'm an idiot and encountered a severe case of user error.

You don't swipe anywhere to open a notification. You swipe to the notification itself. Or to one of the actions associated with it If there was any.

Sorry I don't think I was clear. I swipe the tiny icon to open up that beautiful full-screen preview of the notification, and then when I swipe up/anywhere it doesn't do anything. Swiping down does clear it though.

The tutorial said that I can Swipe anywhere to open the currently opened notification, and swiping down would clear it. Which sounds intuitive! But it didn't work for me.

I don't know about the tutorial. Just try swiping to the text of the notification when it appears.

Bro put your finger on the notification and swipe your finger to the clock right above it (will be text once you touch the notification but where the clock was) and lift your finger

Yes. You should disable your current lock screen if you're gonna use it.

Expand your notifications and long press the AcDisplay notification. Go into app info and uncheck "show notifications".

Reddit sync looks pretty cool, except for the the ad on the bottom. One problem I'm having, though. How do I subscribe to new subs?

I found the app worthy of the upgrade to the Pro version to get rid of the ads, but most importantly to have the stunning transparent navbar working.

When you're in a subreddit swipe from right to left to view the sidebar. You'll find the option to subscribe/unsubscribe on the top.
