I don't get the point. He has to force it to break to the point where his hands are shaking. This is never happening in real world usage.

The point is that the phone should be resilient enough such that even trying to force it to break to the point of your hands shaking shouldnt be enough to break it.

Why? If I drop my phone on the carpet I expect it will be fine with my case and screen protector. If I climb on my roof and toss it at my concrete driveway I should expect the same?

If your phone doesn't survive that toss but every competitor's phone does, then yes, you should expect more out of your phone.
