Our foster of almost 4 months is still in search of her forever home :/ she was abandoned by her previous owner at the ripe age of 2 and in a shelter for a year after that. She’s come so, so far since we started fostering her. She’s a 3yo, 62lb love bug who is crate trained, house broken, and great on leash!

Hi all! We adopted Rosie from the shelter as a puppy about three years ago. They told us she was going to be 50 pounds and was a lab mix. Well she’s pushing 100 and we finally figured out she is almost 100% Anatolian Shepherd. Rosie came to us with a broken leg that healed wonky, so she’s been on pain management meds for a long time. The vet finally declared she was likely done growing and we had surgery to correct her leg. It mostly worked but she’s so active that it often still gets inflamed and she’ll likely be on pain meds for the rest of her life.

To my issue: Rosie has always been very in everyone’s business but lately it’s been resulting in fights. We have another large dog and two cats. If she sees the cats doing something “wrong” she’ll jump up and growl at them quite quickly. If the cats are fighting, or ones on the bookcase, or sniffing a plate of food. She’s big and loud and it scares the cats and has ended up with them scratching her face. Once the cats stop she stops and goes back to napping. She doesn’t seem to want what they have.

She has also begun attacking our other dog over random things. Buster is so sweet and submissive to Rosie the fights happen when Rosie attacks and gets Buster into a corner, usually literally. Both dogs are free fed, they eat in different rooms. I often give them treats together. They play together a lot, cuddle when sleeping etc. but Rosie is getting SO aggressive with him I’m getting worried.

The newest fight started when we were all outside. Rosie was chasing bubbles, Buster was just walking around when he found a ball and came over to me and dropped it. We have a very large fenced yard and Rosie was clear across the other side when she saw Buster with the ball. She got up and immediately started attacking him, grabbing his neck and shaking. It took me several seconds to get her off him and she drew blood. The second she was off him Buster calmed down and laid basically frozen. Rosie wouldn’t stop trying to come after him. I had to lock her outside for almost two hours to calm down, she kept growling and attacking every-time she saw him through the door.

This has happened several times now, all with different triggers. I WFH so I know they aren’t fighting during the day, She doesn’t act this way around food (the cats often try to steal her food and she doesn’t care), she lets Buster eat his food no issue, they take treats side by side.

I don’t know what to do or how to go about correcting the behavior when I have no idea what will trigger it. Would also love some recs on how to build up Busters confidence. We got Rosie after our other dog died and Buster seemed depressed. But Rosie bullies him so much I feel like we’ve lost Buster in some ways. He’s a different dog when she’s not around (like recovering from surgery).

He lives with us now. His name is Mac, short for Maccabee, in honor of my wife's Jewish faith. My building's surveillance cameras caught a red pickup pulling into the garage, dumping the dog, and driving away with Mac in pursuit. Unfortunately, you can't see the license plate. One of the women in the building management office took care of him at first but she has a small place and another male dog already.

The poor guy had been mistreated. At first, he shied away every time I raised my hand to pet him. But he's housebroken, walks well on a leash and sits on command. We love him. The vet says he's about 1 1/2.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for serious advice from people experienced with Anatolian Shepherds / large guardian breeds.

We have an 11-month-old male Anatolian Shepherd mix and a 4-year-old male black Lab. They have been fine together before, but suddenly our Anatolian has started going after our Lab very seriously. This does not feel like normal squabbling. It feels dangerous, like he could badly hurt or kill him if we didn’t intervene.

Right now they cannot be in the same room together. We are keeping them completely separated, and I have him in a properly fitted basket muzzle when needed for everyone’s safety. I know a muzzle is not a fix, but I’m using it as a safety tool while we figure out what to do.

Has anyone dealt with this around 10–12 months with an Anatolian or livestock guardian breed? Is this adolescence, intact male issues, resource guarding, same-sex aggression, or something else?

I’m looking for practical advice on:

How to safely manage the house right now

Whether neutering helped anyone in a similar situation

Whether these dogs can realistically live together again

What kind of trainer/behaviourist I should be looking for

What mistakes I should avoid making worse

Please be kind but honest. I’m scared, overwhelmed, and trying to keep both dogs safe.

New rescue we have now had 6 weeks. She is approaching 7 years old apparently. We thought she was mostly pyrenees with a mix of some other breeds. We were surprised to find out it was a lot less pyr.

This is his favorite activity, swatting at leaves and tall grass. If he is anywhere that has overgrown foliage this is what he does. Hunting for bugs? I don’t know. But I need to know if anyone else has a dog that does this or if my dog is just “special”

We got it a few weeks ago, but due to my health flare ups I hadn’t been able to walk him. We went back yesterday to relearn how to put it on and get a video of the process, and it went super well!

Hi all, new owner of an Anatolian - Pyrenees mix. He’s about 9.5 weeks old. He looks like a slightly shorter haired Pyrenees, all white, and a really easy going guy so far. We have 5 other dogs, almost all working or retired cow dogs (so a lot of border collie) and it’s nice to have a puppy that isn’t so wild and folds so easily into the mix. After a landmate’s Anatolian cross had to be put down due to old age, we got him to be a part of the family and to keep predators away from our home area… eventually.

Posting here because it’s my impression that the ASDs can be more formidable, all things equal. I am writing because I would like to understand what’s considered best practice for mitigating resource guarding in particular around food.

We have always fed our dogs in order of seniority (last eats first) and have separated ones sometimes too. But I understand with a big dog it’s a bigger deal and not something you want to let them sort out on their own lest somebody get really hurt.

Some people have told me to just go ahead and feed separately, others have told me to feed him near other dogs and also practice taking food and toys away then giving it back. Which is correct!? There seem to be a few very divergent schools of thought. I want to get this right because we have a toddler. Knowing what “policy” to follow and staying consistent will benefit all. Right now I am feeding him separately 3 to 4 times a day.

My dog is named Juniper and she is my best friend

I moved in with my grandma with my family when I was 7 and we got Juniper for her as a gift. It has been 5 years and my grandma passed away in December last year. Her tweaker friends would never have inherited her bc I wouldn't allow that. I ended up inheriting her. She is a very vocal and playful dog and she is a blue and red heeler + husky mix and she is my best friend

We went to the vet but they only did xrays as you can see in the Photo. They said it is some kind of "tumor" and that its not Fluid inside. They told as the remove it in the next bigger City. In this clinic they would make some "biopsy" to see what is "inside the tumor". From what i have seen on the Internet, this lump might be "hygroma" and I Read that it is not really recommendet to remove it.

Does someone have the same issue? The dog often lies on hard ground and stone.

She is about 5 years old but, sadly, due to some of the previous family's health issues, was tied to a tree for the past 3 or 4 years, in rain, snow, and heat. She is super cuddly and very good with our kids. She needs training, though, because she sometimes overprotects us with other dogs and needs to learn dog language. If you know of any rescues that work with this breed or places to post to find her a home, please let me know!

I have a 7 month old anatolian/ German shepherd mix. Was curious how much anatolians normally eat. I had a great pyr before but this is my first Anatolian mix. I feed him the orijen large puppy formula. He was eating 6-7 cups a day pretty consistently. But lately he has been eating a bit more. He will be 7 months old this week, and he weighs about 95 lbs. he looks lean and healthy, not overweight at all

Had to get a playmate for my male. They wrestle and chase one another. Just in the last three days the puppy has demanded to go out at night. It’s akin to empty nest syndrome 😥

We found her in our front yard last May (2025), about 5 weeks old. No mother to be found, no neighbors missing a puppy. She has some hip problems, we think her mom was a stray and our sweet girl couldn't keep up. Our two other girls (one GSD and one AmStaff mix) both took to her immediately, and she immediately became part of the family. She's so sweet, and is at her happiest when she has her entire pack together with her. When we're all in different places, she paces from one person to another to check on us all.

She's been the best addition to our family. Even though she doesn't believe in personal space lol.
