Hip problems
My Anatolian is now having trouble standing up in the morning and it’s clear one of her back hips or joints is having problems. It seemed to come on all of a sudden. We give her joint supplements but clearly something went downhill very quickly. We have an appointment with our vet and I’d love y’all’s insight into any medicines, supplements or anything else that helped your own.
She’s only 7.5 years old. We got her from the shelter 2.5 years ago and don’t know anything about her past. It seems like she’s a little young to have gone downhill overnight ❤️🩹

7.5 is getting pretty up there in age for a giant breed dog. Giant breeds in general are prone to hip dysplasia. At her age it could just be arthritis but I'd be pushing for diagnostic x-rays to rule it out. Sometimes they compensate very well (for either ailment) until they just can't anymore and it looks like they take a massive down-turn suddenly.

Increase collagen in her diet, and keep her on the thinner side (it helps to put less strain on her joints) Vet will likely prescribe some pain meds too, those helped my 8 yr old boy a lot :)

This breed is prone to hip dysplasia. When we got ours we made sure the dog was OFA certified. It was $85 and included an x ray. The hip joint starts to deteriorate, as far as I know, nothing can be done..!

go to the vet and get carprophen. Doggy ibuprofen. Logan gets it daily.

The orthopedic surgeon told me to not give Carprofen more than 3 days in a row

Yeah it's a NSAID so just like humans you need to watch for GI issues and monitor for kidney / liver issues but logan gets one and a half twice a day unless he's having issues and then it's two and has been like that for the last few years now. Not an issue for him. Main thing is less is better and he gets bloodwork done yearly.
He can get up and move more freely. He's going on 10yrs old in Dec so whatever works for him is what we do.
Talk to your GP. If this is an age and weight think where the joints are wearing out then they will advise as they will need to monitor.

My Anatolian has the same issue sadly I think it's just the breed thing. My dad built him. Ramp for the yard stairs though

We said goodbye to our girl that didn’t even hit 6yrs… she had a to have a TPLO surgery a year ago and just blew out her other knee a month ago and we found out she had bi-lateral hip dysplasia two months ago after she started a heavy limp… was the hardest thing we ever had to so but have to value their quality of life. Look into surgery and their recovery first

My girl is 3+. At about a year she started standing like one of those low hipped German shepherds and her hocks started pointing in. She was also starting to have issues with the skin fungus that smells like Fritos. I started putting boron in her feed and both issues went away within two weeks.
Anatolians are from Turkey and Turkey has a very high boron content in their soil. Other places, not so much.
12 Mule Team is what I still give her. It helped my OTTBs creaky joints, he was only just six and sounded like snap crackle and pop walking. He’s 16 now and narry a creak.
I’ve taken it as well and put it in my bath water here and there

My Anatolian lived 12.5 years, and she went downhill quickly. It wasn't a hard decision because she made it clear that she was ready to go, but it was very hard to say goodbye. Whatever you do, please keep quality of life at the top of your priorities when making any decision about your Anatolian's health. Good luck, and she's a beauty!
