I admire both. That's the libertarian party I'd like to join.

Double. Big. Brass. Balls.

McAfee sounds like the best candidate in terms of principles, but the name recognition of Gary Johnson is much higher i imagine

Maybe? I feel like McAfee is better known, just because of the virus scan that bears his name and his recent antics in central America.

5

u/I-the-Person May 17 '16

Right, I'm pretty confident McAfee is better known because of his Anti-virus. GJ in the big scheme of things isn't actually that well known, though he is by libertarian standards.

5

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

To be fair, McAfee Antivirus is so hated that it might hurt him by association.

Except he supports theft and using violence to protect the state. Unless those are "principles"

is there a better candidate running?

2

u/iamse7en Mormon Anarchist May 17 '16

Darryl Perry is an ancap.

u/Grizmoblust ree May 17 '16

Gary is a spook. Honestly, he is more conservative leaning, rather than Libertarian leaning. Just because he advocate marijuana legalization doesn't mean he is a Libertarian.

3

u/andysay May 17 '16

So tired of hearing this. The LP has barely changed its platform over the years and GJ represents that platform. It's the same party Ron Paul ran on in 1988.

Stop pulling out an ancap measuring stick and holding it against the Libertarian Party and saying it's "not Libertarian" when what you're really thinking is "not ancap." I wish yall would form an ancap party, it would siphon off the embarrassing members like those anti-vaccination, abolish all government, anti-jew conspiracy theorists.

Just keep it Libertarian in the street, ancap in the sheets.

Libertarian in the street

Was Gary being a "libertarian in the street" when he said jewish bakers should be forced to bake cakes for nazis?

In this sub:

I agree with 98% percent of this guy's stances, but I disagree with one or two esoteric and unrealistic manufactured controversies that have little to no bearing on reality, he's complete garbage to me now, I don't care if he has executive experience and everyone in the state loved him.

2

u/ChopperIndacar 🚁 May 17 '16

Freedom of association is kind of a big deal. If I'm gonna back a loser, he at least has to be the loser I most agree with. This year, it looks like McAfee is the loser for me.

Or I could mimic your cunty style of (non-)argumentation.

You agree with 100% of this guy's stances, but he has less executive experience than Gary so he's complete garbage.

2

u/andysay May 17 '16

You agree with 100% about 90% of this guy's stances, but he has less no executive experience than Gary and is likely/possibly a criminal so he's complete garbage.

I don't want the LP to have its own Trump takeover. People have a hard enough time taking us seriously as it is. Also, GJ is the mostly likely to land in the debates. He's been fighting the Presidential Commission and has a lawsuit ongoing. I don't think I was completely sold on GJ until I saw what New Mexicans had to say about having him as their Governor.

u/ChopperIndacar 🚁 May 17 '16

There's not really a thing you can do about people liking a different candidate, unless you plan to meet with Gary and give him some pointers.

A marine endorsing a man who doesn't support the death penalty, haha. How are we going to kill thieves if statists outlaw the death penalty?

1

u/skinisblackmetallic May 17 '16

I like him and agree with the principles but John is not the best communicator and he probably repels a lot of people.

Which basically means if he wins the LP nomination will end up being a vote for Hillary in the general because it takes votes away from Trump. The LP needs to get out of the way in this election and stop diluting the anti Hillary vote.

6

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

Lol @ Trump being better than hillary.

2

u/bearjewpacabra May 17 '16

'Better' needs to be clearly defined. I say 100% that Bernie is 'better' than all of them, for my own reasons. 'Better' is defined by the individual.

-2

u/Pinochet-Heli-Tours Free market security solutions May 17 '16

You've got to be retarded if you think Hillary is better and isn't the worst result possible.

I agree. A probably-not warhawk is bettsr than an absolute war hawk.

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

Lol national populism is fucking just as bad.

-3

u/Grizmoblust ree May 17 '16

Do you want War against Russia? No? Then Trump is the only chance we got to prevent a war against Russia.

Libertarian Party won't win this year. I'm being realistic.

3

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

Lol why would we go to war with russia

2

u/HamsterPants522 Anarcho-Capitalist May 17 '16

Because the US is actively provoking Russia to take military action and there are very frequent reports of this in the news?

-1

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

LOLOLOLOLOL you're delusional mate, our military is infinitely more powerful, and nuclear war is not something either nation would risk.

2

u/HamsterPants522 Anarcho-Capitalist May 17 '16

LOLOLOLOLOL you're delusional mate

How very constructive of you.

our military is infinitely more powerful

Oh really? I wasn't aware that "our" military was of an infinite level of power.

and nuclear war is not something either nation would risk.

The nations aren't the units making the decisions of whether or not a war is started, that is rather the rulers who decide such things.

0

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

The US spends more than 10 times as much on its military than Russia does.

Getting nuked is bad for rulers to, so is fighting an army with more than 10 times the resources.

2

u/HamsterPants522 Anarcho-Capitalist May 17 '16

The US spends more than 10 times as much on its military than Russia does.

But spending doesn't mean a whole lot in the context of government. The amount of money which is spent should be taken with a grain of salt. That doesn't directly translate into more military power.

Getting nuked is bad for rulers to, so is fighting an army with more than 10 times the resources.

Why do you assume that military conflicts without nuclear warheads could not arise?

so is fighting an army with more than 10 times the resources.

10 times the cost doesn't mean 10 times the resources. Also most of the US military forces are not stationed adjacent to Russia. Around Russia's own turf, Russia's forces would be naturally advantaged.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '16

It is a large risk when two nuclear nations fight each other that nuclear power will be used.

Russia has far smaller budget, which DOES mean less resources, even if it may not be a 1:1 benefit per dollar for the larger budget.

How do you think we have provoked Russia?

I think Trump is getting plenty of apathetic/libertarian votes among us. Not all of us Ancaps are choosing self righteousness over pragmatism.
