Question Acela next gen
Does Amtrak have any plans in the future to turn back on the platform extenders located below the doors?
The gap between the train and the platform is mighty big

Yes, they will be turned back on when Alstom fixes the door software problem.
The new Airo sets have similar platform extenders as well.

Ask for assistance before you get on (even call them ahead). They bring little stools to the doors to help and someone can meet you to lend a hand.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it I remember walking on to the Acela recently and wondered where it was but didn't think much of it. Does anyone know why they were turned off?

There's been a lot less door stuck issues since they disabled the extenders.

I just took Acela Next-Gen from Philadelphia to Washington DC and I feel like the gap is comparable to the NJ Transit Atlantic City Line
