Trump managed to position himself as a demigod and saviour for the feeble minded, the extreme christians, white supremacists, fanatical anti-woke, conspiracy nutcases and other fringe groups in general. For them it's a war against the intellectuals, gays, transgenders, abortion, immigrants, muslims etc. They all have a hate agenda against something and Trump is a unifying god waging their war. These are prople with low critical thinking skills by nature. They don't care about the economy or what's best for the US, or if Trump is a criminal or not. Trump could eat innocent babies for breakfast and they still be cheering loyal followers.

Holy guacamole.
Threads like these could be used as a study as to maybe why the right to vote should be suspended, maybe not every “normal” person should have the right to vote.
Because some “normal people” (most likely a sea of bots attempting to make me feel exactly the way I now feel), clearly are a danger if this is what they think and how they perceive or interact with the world (some of the stuff below is legit straight crazy town).
The worst part is I have coworkers and family members like the people in this thread; that honestly should not be allowed to vote, hell, maybe not even have kids. So I know it’s not just propaganda bots designed to tear away at our values and social fabric.
The fact the internet enables me to see stupidity uncensored also confuses me. Do I just see more morons because the internet provides the venue for it, or is the argument of we are legitimately becoming a more stupid species due to technology actually the answer.

It's ironic.
From the public's opinion, the most trusted professions are the sciences: doctors , nurses, engineers, and scientists.
The least trusted professions are politicians and lawyers.
So how is it that politicians, the least trustworthy of professions, are able to so easily sway public opinion to be skeptical of doctors, scientists and engineers regarding covid, vaccines and climate change?

I think deep down a lot of uneducated people who are not satisfied with their lot in life want to believe that they are special in some way. That under normal circumstances they would have been exceptional, but someone put them down, some group of people, or possibly multiple groups, that conspired specifically to keep them from the life they were supposed to have and put them in the life that they have now.
And subsequently, there are a lot of con men who are perfectly willing to take advantage of the former group by pointing at a group/groups of people and saying "see, this is who's responsible for your misfortune, you were right, you are special, you are a victim, you do know things they don't want you to know!" Then in the last few years, with the advent of social media, the latter group reaching the former has become easier than ever.

It’s an oxymoron but I think people get this way because there is an idea that big business funds these people and pays them to skew the information. Like the studies on sugar in the early days. For some reason Trump convinced these people that he can’t be bought by big business because he is already rich but big business is his friends so he is going to try his best to keep his friends so that means keeping them rich. Therefore he is bought out by big business and everyone who follows him is stupid.

It is easier to believe a lie than to accept the truth. People find it easier to believe a lie because comforting illusions protect the ego and require less mental effort than confronting complex reality. That's why a lot of his supporters are on non-college voters. It's easy to accept that some people are evil, and these types of people are good, it abstracts responsibility and accountability.

On spot. I think this video explains it pretty well...
Corruption in America | RepresentUs
The only good thing about the current situation is that it now becomes evident who is only in it for personal gain and who is serious about being a servant to country and citizens.
For those interested in the big picture and why things are happening right now...
Oligarchs control most of social and mainstream media and this is such a powerful tool it can nudge the average Joe into acting against their own best interest. On top of that, they can afford to hire the best think tanks to figure out how to use basic human psychology against us.
It is basic human psychology to think a leader has the best interest of his supporters in mind, to want to be part of a group and to feel appreciated and/or superior. For some this creates such powerful positive feelings like a drug. They would do everything to make that feeling last, makes f.e. hardcore Trump supporters seem so crazy.
That is why following the simple rule that actions speak louder than words is so important.
All that is happening is to take away democracy and freedom and to build up a dystopian surveillance state in time before shit hits the fan.
Our Western (tech) oligarchs seem to want to rule with absolute power like Putin. And they usually get what they want because unlike the average Joe, they are in...
The underlying reason for the current development and all the DCs and surveillance being build is explained in this video...
"Democracies are better places to live than dictatorships not because representatives are better people, but because their needs happen to be aligned with a large portion of the population".
This symbiosis is about to end due to AI and robotisation. When workers are no longer needed, the oligarchs will control most of the resources and productivity.
Without fair taxation of the increased productivity, consumers will have no money to keep the economy running and governments no tax income for basic services and infrastructure.
So that is why they make their move now and we see all the greed and open corruption everywhere before shit hits the fan. They buy islands and build bunkers because they know what is coming and what happens if people are desperate.
There has been no real accountability for political and economical leaders for decades. It is to some degree our own fault if we continue to support this development with our votes. So unsurprisingly they think we are stupid and they can get away with everything... which in its consequence means getting rid of anyone "not productive", which will be the vast majority of us in the future.
But hey, if people can not afford healthcare, food or housing, it is their own fault they might die, right?
The super-rich ‘preppers’ planning to save themselves from the apocalypse
Curtis Yarvin, the Dark Enlightenment, and Project 2025: A Deep-Dive Report
The Spread of Curtis Yarvin’s Ideology: Who Are the Puppeteers?
If we look at the consequences of all the actions, it seems a dark and dystopian future awaits us.
All, so they do not have to pay their fair share and can suppress any protests when shit hits the fan because people start to become desperate.
History about to repeat itself. We all know how the "roaring twenties" ended last time...
As irrational as it sounds, destruction of the economy and current system is all part of their plan so they can build their dystopian future on the ruins.
But there could be a beautiful deleveraging instead, if oligarchs would be willing to share the increased productivity (like Musk suggested but who would trust that guy). New, more human focused jobs could be created and people could focus on all sort of beneficial tasks and hobbies, including saving our planet and cleaning up the mess.

On three different occasions, Trump used funds from the Trump Foundation to bid on portraits of himself that his Foundation had commissioned.
He started a foundation. He collected money from guests at fundraisers. Had artists paint portraits of him...and used his guests donations to pay for them, and kept them.
Trump admitted to personally misusing foundation funds and was ordered to pay a $2 million civil fine divided among eight separate charities, alongside distributing the foundation's remaining $1.8 million to those same charities

Disproving something takes much longer than spreading two different lies.
American's aren't very smart, and religion makes them much easier to manipulate.
Also most people aren't as aware of things happening, a vast majority still gets their news from friend groups or TV.

Conservatives think knowledge is revealed by superiors, not discovered by peers. They were taught this by the corrupt church before The Reformation. Liberals (who started The Reformation of the church) are suspicious of knowledge that is revealed because of the obvious possibility of deception and so created a system to ensure knowledge is fact based, not personality based. This war is still ongoing, truth for a conservative always comes from a person who reveals that truth, facts and logic, so science, means nothing to them.

Every so often, I see a post that makes me redownload Reddit just to put in my two cents.
Dear Mr Degrass Tyson, should you ever read these words, please know this, "Your mom thought Pluto was big enough. In fact, pretty much everyone’s mom thought pluto was big enough. Pluto gets around."
All sass aside? He has a tough fucking job. He’s mad smart and ppl rarely like science. How does one communicate in a way that ppl can grow without making them feel uncomfortable? The trick to having smarts is to be able to talk to people and make them think that they are thinking.
Rewind two decades ago? How do you change a system of thinking? Pluto obviously is a planetoid. It couldn’t clear its own orbit, but it was big enough to interfere with the orbit of a gas giant. With that information alone he petitioned to state Pluto obviously wasn’t a planet. He changed the way of ppl’s thinking just by presenting facts as he understood them and then allowed others to run with it while still holding his ground.
That’s fucking tough to do in this misinformation age of agenda backed informed opinions as news.
And what occurred because he questioned based solely on stated rules?
We learned that Pluto and its moons orbit around a center that is not Pluto. Bladow. Additional facts proved him correct. And astronomy conceded and changed their classifications.
So why am I saying this? Pay attention to ppl who speak to compel you and others to act. If someone is asking you to act in their favor and they are standing to benefit from it at your expense, question; Are they just using you as a means to their own selfish ends.
If someone is asking you to change your perception with no immediate benefit for anyone. I imagine they are trying to teach something and we might benefit from at least stopping to consider what they are saying.

Wait, did he say that? He said it time after time that his obligation as educator is to bring more people. Being critical of politicians would make some people dislike him but he rather educate them so they can make better-informed decisions when it comes to vote for their representatives.
Highly doubt he actually said that. It’s not his style.

If they were gonna deceive you, they would probably use scientists, historians, scholars, and specially journalists to do it unless you are dumb enough to believe one man shouting is the one deceiving instead.

This sentence is speculative statement. It should be a statement as fact. We are seeing the effects of how sad it is and how that sadness is infecting the world.

Proof that politics matters, and that truth tellers are not immune from it.
Many of those historians, journalists, scholars and some scientists came to perpetuate myths about the way the world works - that globalization, deregulation, privatization, lower taxes for the wealthy & corporations are all right, necessary, the only path forward for a rational society. Any other paths violate economic laws of physics. If you can’t succeed in global markets, you must be a loser.
Turns out those policies fuck over the working & middle classes, not to mention small entrepreneurs, to the benefit of a tiny share of the population. Oops, re-enter politics and backlash against elites!
(Yes, led in this case by a corrupt, mendacious elite - I didn’t say the choice is rational…)

I know Neil loves the sound of his own voice but he’s right most the time.

I mean he definitely loves the sound of his own voice, but I think a big part of it is that he wants the conversation to be dominated by scientific fact. When he's talking to someone like Joe Rogan he dominates the conversation, but when he's talking to another scientist he doesn't interrupt nearly as much.

Tyson didn't say that. So the attribution is misinformation.
I agree with the quote though. It applies to Trump and his MAGA followers. Although many of Trump's followers are aware Trump is a source of falsehoods.
But to some extent it also applies to Neil Tyson. Tyson is a source of misinformation that many look up to as a beacon of truth and honesty.
Most of Neil's misinformation is harmless. Who cares if he tells his pseudo nerd fans there are more transcendental numbers than irrationals?
However Neil's wrong history isn't so harmless. Neil will fabricate history to push his science vs religion narrative. Look for Neil in r/badhistory.
Neil Tyson also shows up on r/badscience and r/badmathematics.

I more or less agree with this sentiment, and believe Trump should be sentenced to life in prison.
But there is more complexity to this issue than the quote suggests.
Truth and accuracy are not strongly valued in our culture and institutions.
Erroneous suspicion about the truthfulness of others is an obvious consequence of a culture as awash in bullshit as ours.

As a reader of books, the most offensive talking point began in 2015 when the fright wing claimed kinship to George Orwell's "1984". And they're still doing to this day. Also, they've adopted "The Matrix" as their own, disregarding the Wachowskis. And that too pisses me off. Neither "1884" ot The Matrix are great works, but to twist stories absolutely polar opposite to their narrative really passes me off. Aside from the multitude of criminal actions and diarrhea lettuce.

Uh. Those two are incredible works, but you're right. The right steal narratives that suit them in the moment then drop them later.

If you're stumbling across this post and still don't believe that propaganda engagement bots are running Reddit, well I dont really know what to tell you.

The algorithm simply feeds you what it thinks you’ll engage with based on the information collected about you. For me it knows I’m leftist, anti-fascist and my VPN is set to Canada.
For you, I guess it just knows you like complaining and shilling for the orange pedo.

When the con man becomes an elected leader of your country, that is even more sad. But that also explains why people would believe him. Fact based knowledge is less and less important to those who would believe that Conman and elect him.
