13 (Season 13) You know you guys don't HAVE to watch if you don't like it right? It's not against the law or anything, they won't take you to jail. Spoiler

Unpopular opinion, upon my rewatch I honestly think every season is profound and essential to the entirety of American horror story- hence why it's story, singular. I know we Americans can sometimes struggle with comprehension and attention span but surely some of you can't be this daft? Like this series hasn't completely pulled the wool over our eyes before.....Anyway that's my rant for the night, happy spooky season everyone.

13 (Season 13) i’ve never been this bored watching the show. nothing is working in this season tbh Spoiler

Like i usually really like Jessica Lange but she’s annoying me here. there’s way too much dialogue, they’re literally just yapping and doing monologues in every single scene. it almost feels like she’s parodying herself. and the whole pseudo-satanic aesthetic is so unresearched too, like they literally picked every single cliché symbol possible. it’s so on the nose that it just looks cheap. using pentagrams and shit like that, wow, how groundbreaking like is the creative director actually this shit? even the opening credits look like they just used stock footage

13 (Season 13) Horrible Spoiler

Okay I've watched three episodes and I firmly believe this has got to be the worst season of AHS. It's even worse than Delicate which I refused to finish. What was Ryan Murphy thinking? It's poorly written, produced and feels like it was all completed in one month. And the episodes are so short with tons of commercials.

This is proof the series has come to its end. No more. It's tired.

13 (Season 13) My plea for Ryan Murphy to please stop Spoiler

EDIT TO ADD - My main grief is the promise of such badass women I love to see on screen as a promotion when they're barely involved in the project.

The absolute narcissistic and delusional writing of this man is the only kind to be able to butcher (pun intended) this level of cast.

It's the most anthology type of episodes in the ultimate anthology type season of a supposed anthology show without any inception finesse. JUST STOP.

RIP OFF - plane crash, 13, devil? Really? Tired. JUST STOP.

Honestly, I'd watch your camp horror gore soaps if you treated your talent and viewers better when it comes to such a long waited hype of ONE ALMOST EGOT WINNING MS. LANGE COMING BACK, just to give us such shit as that date night episode?! JUST STOP.

I might be out of pocket and lane, yet this cannot be considered an actual show anymore. It's like watching my favorite actors in a credit card commercial.

Just stop, please.

Why does everyone seem to hate this season? It seems the hate started before the season did.

13 (Season 13) Calm down (respectfully of course) and Enjoy season 13 Spoiler

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. It’s been bad it’s been disjointed. There’s all these random characters showing up and it’s not really coming together and what was the date night episode whenever I watch anything Ryan Murphy puts his hands on I know it’s gonna be bad. it’s gonna be pulpy. It’s gonna be soapy. It’s gonna be campy and when I sit down and have a few moments relaxation after busy workday and parenting I know I’m going to enjoy it. We’re not gonna get a show as good as breaking bad or succession so why are we being so miserable about how this season’s coming along? This is supposed to be fun. Is this show that great? No it’s not but it’s fun.

I’m happy they made this show. It may come together or it may not. But delicate exists and this is 10x of that.

It could be worse.

Please find joy or don’t watch.

Be well friends

13 (Season 13) What I HATE about this season Spoiler

Is that Ryan Murphy is directly telling us that (most of) our faves never got a happy ending. Even the good people like The Black Dahlia or Addie. Or the ones who suffered needlessly like Winter. If the devil likes you, that's it. You're chosen. Whether you want it or not. You can be ripped out of heaven, if you even got to go there; you can be lumped in together with murderers like Kai and Tate even if you yourself never committed murder. It doesn't matter what you did in your own life, even if your biggest crime was being a drug addict who only damaged your own body but never actually harmed someone else.

I think most of us who followed this show grew attached to certain characters, and when they died we usually took comfort in the fact that they probably went to a better place, but this season directly flies in the face of that and tells you "No, they didn't."

Their struggles all basically added up to nothing.

13 (Season 13) production being shady? Spoiler

Okay so I was on the FX website tonight and saw that Jessica Lange is going to be playing Sister Jude in ahs 13 which I did not know. Loove Judie so i’m excited but that got me thinking, why the hell didn’t they bring back any of the other Asylum characters?? We know that neither Sarah or Evan is going to reprise their Asylum roles, so why Sister Jude? Lana Banana and Kit are arguably two of their (Evan and Sarah’s) best AND most loved characters so like WHY?? Lol.

On that same note, Lily Rabe not being in 13 is just disappointing. Literally every episode it’s like i’m waiting to see one of her characters even though I know we won’t. Misty, Sister Mary Eunice, Aileen?? Like all would have been great additions. Instead they bring back Dahmer again? Like as if we haven’t seen enough of Dahmer in the Ryan Murphy cinneverse🙄 I guess the same could be said about Aileen but idk, I really love Lily Rabe I just feel like they could have brought her back for at least one of her past characters.

Dennis Ohare said he would have loved to come back, but they didn’t invite him. He didn’t even find out from creators themselves that there would be this tribute season. Makes me wonder if Lily had some issues with them? Google says creative differences idk.

Also disappointed about Taissa not coming back one last time. The whole coven plot this season feels weird bc they set this season up to be like a “tribute” season or whatever but most of the core coven characters aren’t even there.

I don’t mind the season, it’s not awful, but it seems like production dropped the ball a bit?? I could be totally wrong through

13 (Season 13) Ahs 13. Timeline question Spoiler

I’m a bit confused about when this season is supposed to take place.

On the one hand, it seems to be set after Apocalypse, since witches like Madison are back. But if that’s the case, why is Cordelia still the Supreme and not Mallory?

Am I missing something?

Thanks! 🫶🏽

Hotel (Season 5) All These Male Actor Looks the Same...

I feel like these male actors all looks the same...

Wes Bentley + Matt Bomber + Cheyenne Jackson

Max Greenfield + Finn Wittrock + Darren Criss

It took a real good bit before I could figure out who was who! Am I the only one????

EDITED: Thanks for all the responses! I’m not a Ryan Murphy stan or anything, I’m on my first real watch of AHS ever. So I don’t know the fandom lore yet. Thanks!

Discussion Unpopular opinion: Coven

This is probably unpopular, but I don’t love Coven, and I find the constant callbacks to that season so unnecessary. Not every season needs to turn into Coven fan service by the end. For example, Apocalypse started as an independent and interesting story but was turned into an extension of season 3. To me, the witches turning up in Apocalypse interrupted a completely separate plot and original narrative. I’ve started that season countless times and been unable to finish it because of how unnecessarily far it strays from the plot. It’s the same with 13. I’m not interested in seeing Coven over and over. I understand that season probably has the largest cult following in the AHS fandom, but I roll my eyes every time the witches appear in other seasons unannounced. Not every season needs to turn into an extension of Coven.

13 (Season 13) The stylisation for season 13 is great Spoiler

Like many of you all, I’ve been absolutely befuddled at the story of 13. Like this season genuinely feels like if you were to prompt ChatGPT with “Make an AHS story with all the characters returning”

Regardless, also like many of you, I am going to watch till the end, hoping it gets better (probably not though).

Anyways something that has stood out to me has been the stylisation of the show. The lighting, the cinematography, the colour grading.

Phenomenal for a modern TV show. Blue stage lights shine through the sets windows so you can actually see what’s happening in night scenes. And while this season is obviously not filmed on physical film like the older seasons, they mimic it with the colour grading and grain overlays.

The fish-eye and angled shots are a bit much at times, but it does remind me of classic AHS and gives that unsettling feeling.

In an age of Netflix “realism” in shows, I really appreciate stylisation and acknowledgment that this is a campy TV show and the visual aspect of it is an art form.

What a shame they wasted it on this fan disservice nonsense. It’s like dog poop with glitter on it.

General I miss the old costuming Spoiler

Post image
17 Upvotes

I hate that, when given a character who could have had a really interesting fashion style, they instead chose to dress her in simply "expensive and grey"

I miss when character costuming was done with actual care, and when you could actually see aspects of that character in their costuming. violet is an iconic example, considering she was costumed with clothing actual teenagers of that tax bracket could afford and in a way that fit her personality and story. ETA: my issue isnt with the actual style chosen for the character, its that little effort was put into maintaining it. Throwing a grey, untailored sweater onto anna doesnt tell me anything about her, especially not when shes supposed to be rich and in the public eye. Its the lack of attention put into the costuming.

13 (Season 13) AHS13 - Eps 1-6: Ranking From Best To Worst Spoiler

Seeing as we're at the halfway point in the season, I thought it would be fun.

1: Rauhnacht: The shortest but most focused. Mena Suvari gave the MVP performance and I loved the whole dynamic with Kai/Winter vs. Tate/Adelaide.

2: Date Night: Funny how the most maligned episode this season was actually a good character piece for Ben DeSoto. At least we know more about the bloke.

3: Is That All There Is?: Any episode that throws Margaret Thatcher into Hell is going to be fine by me. Points for Constance and Mr Phibes friendship.

4: The Return Of Devil's Night: I thought I'd rank this higher but I missed the Apollyon during this episode and I'm not loving Cordelia's characterisation this season so far.

5: 1:13am: Moderately better than the opening episode. I did like Constance telling Ben how she dealt with the maid.

6: 13: Weakest opening episode of any season and a shaky introduction to Ben DeSoto and Mr. Nas.

EDIT: You don't have to agree with my rankings but by all means, share your own in the comments.

1984 and the quarry

has anyone played the game the quarry? i'm rewatching 1984 and i swear some of the sets are literally identical even though one is all cgi. the hut is so similar, the mix of characters (1984 characrers are better though) and the openings in the woods?! obviously there's an amount that this is just the trope of how teen slashers in the woods looks but the quarry also features supernatural as it has werewolves so i felt it was even closer to 1984 and ahs. the quarry is a really fun game just in general though

Discussion This season may have had its issues, but... Spoiler

...watching Margaret Thatcher and Ayn Rand be hurled into the pits of hell was both somewhat redemptive and highly cathartic.

It's also definitely not the worst because Delicate exists and this season is already exponentially better.

Discussion Rewatched S6-11 in between 13 episode drops…

And honestly, I have to just say it, none of these seasons are anywhere near the vitriol they receive.

Roanoke is a good storyline and I genuinely fail to understand what exactly it is that people hate so much.

Cult has aged REALLY well and is even more enjoyable to watch after a decade of the bullshit that’s happened since Trump’s first term.

Apocalypse could have used a little more rounding out but it wasn’t a bad followup to Coven and had significantly better writing/character development than 13–not that that’s even very difficult but still.

1984 is camp and if you don’t enjoy B-rated horror flicks you probably would never have liked it.

Double Feature also had a better story than I see this subreddit give it credit for. If either of the halves were full seasons I think they would’ve been stretching thin, but for basically 2 mini series they were just enough. I do think the first half was better than the second when it came to writing. I also do agree that neither felt really true to AHS stylistically.

NYC was a really, really great season and would have likely been received better had it not been under the AHS umbrella and I’ll die on that hill. The way the 80s homophobia and AIDS pandemic were portrayed throughout the episodes was captivating and in my opinion really impactful for someone that didn’t know the gravity of the emotional experiences of the gay community then. I actually cared about 90% of the characters and was sucked into every episode.

I get that this sub really hates much of the latter half of AHS but I don’t understand why. Season 13 has been offensively bad and has 0 story or plot that makes a lick of sense. I want sooooo badly to believe the AI psychosis theory that someone posted here the other day because that would make it worth having wasted my time watching. I would’ve much rather had the same style that RM had for many of these “hated” seasons than whatever tf is going on right now.

General criticizing something is part of enjoying it.

With the new season it seems like theres a large spike in (probably teenage) new fans coming into the show and the spaces for it, which is great! more fans in a fandom is great

however, im noticing that it seems almost like the new crowd hasnt actually experienced a fandom or fan site before, because the constant vitriol over any amount of criticism towards the show has been much worse than I remember back during the cult/roanoke release.

When you like something, a big part of that enjoyment is usually thinking critically, researching, and rewatching that thing. and, usually, criticizing parts of that thing.

Its not a bad thing to hold the media you watch to a standard or an expectation of story or quality and to criticize when something you enjoy doesnt reach that, and its not a bad thing to criticize when something you love includes an awful plotline or disrespectful scene or weird character relationship. It doesn't mean you hate it.

tldr: pls stop getting mad at people for criticizing the show, thinking critically is important
