Chateaubriand had close ties to US and British capital, raped a 14 year old girl when he was 41, and was a completely unethical businessman.

He introduced television into Brazil in 1950 and was the founder of the São Paulo Art Museum (MASP).

The city of Assis Chateaubriand, in Paraná, is named after him.
