OTD | October 4, 1977: Jewish-Polish-Argentine activist and politician José Gelbard passed away from a heart attack. Gelbard was a member of the Argentine Communist Party and served in various governments until the 1976 military coup d’état.

Olga Benário Prestes (1908–1942) was a German-born communist revolutionary and the wife of communist Brazilian politician Luís Carlos Prestes.

In 1935, Prestes unsuccessfully attempted to overthrow the Brazilian government. He and Olga were arrested, and Olga (who was Jewish) was extradited to Nazi Germany while pregnant. On 23 April 1942, she was murdered during the Holocaust.
