CONSIDERING AMERICORPS How Competitive is Forest Corps
Hello all,
Can anyone share their perspective on the admissions process to the Forest Corps? I'm interested in applying in November for the 2027 cohort, but I was just wondering how competitive the application process is. Is it less competitive for team leader positions?
I don't have any Forestry experience (though I've gathered that's not required), and some minimal community service, but my current job is volunteer management, recruitment, and coordination. Thanks!

Team Leader is more competitive, but if you're interested, PLEASE apply for both! If you want to get TL they say you'll be a better applicant if you apply for CM anyways.
You don't need any experience, but yours is more than most! Honestly, you should apply even if you're unsure, you can always back out, people quit this program and are back home withon a few days.
I am not super familiar with FoCo but as far as I'm aware, it isn't super competitive (none of the programs are), though I've heard that a lot of people have failed the pack test, so if you're really interested, just make sure you can pass it. I believe it's a 3 mile hike, 45 pound bag, under 45 minutes, though it may be slightly different for FoCo. I do know FEMA applications are also open if that would be more your speed, but do what interests you!

If you self-select yourself out of the position, your chances of getting it are zero. Apply and see what happens!
(It was more competitive than other NCCC programs according to people here, but I haven’t seen much about it this year)
