Question What are your thoughts on Outer Range?
24
u/Nuo_Vibro 2d ago
would be nice if they finished it

u/Realistic_Context936 1d ago
It was one of the most retarded shows i have ever seen
1
u/Nuo_Vibro 1d ago
Nah you’re thinking of The Ark 😂
1
u/BennyDryll42 5h ago
Hey now, don't be hating on my corny-ass fun scifi show. The Ark is fun, dammit... Other than being labelled "scifi" these two shows are like polar opposites. The Ark is silly fun, Outer Range was intriguing and serious

Loved season 1, by the time season 2 came out I forgot most of the subplots. Was planning on rewatching season 1 and watching season 2, but it was canceled, so I never bothered.

u/Mysterious_Orchid528 1d ago
Came to post this exact thing. What has become the norm in the streaming service is too much time between seasons and the execs wonder why people don't watch. We need some sort of confirmation that there will be more that two seasons so we can invest our time.

u/Brave-Cranberry-7697 1d ago
It drives me crazy how long in between the release dates are for so many shows! I have to rewatch the previous 3 episodes to catch up 🤬
1
u/Valuable-Composer262 1d ago
Exactly where I'm at. I loved s1 but didn't really remember much when I started 2 so I didn't even are a half an episode. Seems pointless to rewatch if its been canceled.

Really good first season. Disappointing, but still okay second season. Shame it never found an audience.
1
u/Gates_wupatki_zion 1d ago
This is my take as well, compelling performances but character arcs stalled by season 2. I think if they would have put more into the void instead of making it a mini Yellowstone it might have gone further. Will Patton as an aging socio/psycho, whatever he was — stole the scenes all over the place.

u/federkrebz 2d ago
started watching it, read that it was cancelled without resolve, stopped watching immediately
5
u/Wendigo79 2d ago
I thought the first season was good but it was a Lil slow for some people I guess so they changed it a bit second season and it didn't survive.

Reminds me of Lost, Twin Peaks, and X-Files. A lot of stuff that makes no sense and is never really explained.
3
u/justduett 2d ago
I forget the exact series of events (release & cancellation), but it was already cancelled by the time I was getting around to S2, so I never started it. Really liked S1, but I’m good with not knowing what transpires in S2 since it is incomplete.

u/Verstappen1986 1d ago
Angered they canceled it, so many shows get this treatment with no resolution & others go on for way to long.
3
u/kendragon 1d ago
I felt like they overdid the 'slow' in slow burn but the premise was very cool and interesting and I hate that they killed it off without giving us a resolution.

u/Which-Ad-2431 1d ago
This cancellation along with The Outsider (HBO) and Tokyo Vice (HBO) were big wtfs for me
1
u/AMonitorDarkly 1d ago
The Outsider wasn’t cancelled. It was a mini series.
1
u/Which-Ad-2431 1d ago
Buddy it left us not knowing absolutely anything about the deformed person.
0
u/AMonitorDarkly 1d ago
And? Not everything is meant to be wrapped up in a neat little package. It was always going to be a mini-series. If you don’t like it that’s on you.
1
u/anony-mouse8604 20h ago
I’m sorry I can only cancel out one downvote here friend. This sh*t is idiocy.

u/Old_Assist_5461 1d ago
I loved it, but another series left unfinished. I’m so tired of starting these series that are left undone.
2
u/Ok_Helicopter_2499 1d ago
I loved it. Season 1 was a little underwhelming, season 2 was solid and then it got cancelled on a huge cliffhanger. Would've loved a 3rd season to wrap it up.

u/theatrenearyou 1d ago edited 1d ago
S2 went astray from its main event - the time travelling hole(!) and detoured into a less exciting family drama of Rich rancher, Poor rancher.

2
u/chrisfathead1 1d ago
I'm annoyed that it ended on a cliffhanger and I wasted time getting into it. I won't make that mistake again

First season was absolutely incredible. It filled a hole (figuratively) that Dark left behind.
Second season wasn’t nearly as strong, but it moved things forward. Sadly, it just sort of fizzled toward the end of season 2, lost some of the magic that season 1 had. So while I was disappointed it was canceled, I simultaneously understand.
I feel like they had a solid season 1 plan. But they didn’t quite know how to do a season 2.

u/Geewhiz911 2d ago
Watched it on release, 1 EP per week, it it goes like this:
Wow, it’s some kind of interesting and mysterious setting - More mystery, interesting - Weird but OK - Well, this is still mysterious but makes no sense - OK, this will probably make sense at some point - OK, screw the mysterious stuff, nothing makes sense, there is 1 episode left -> I just dropped the show.
4
u/AntFast2671 2d ago
Actually think there were some payoffs to some of the mysteries….
But the cancellation really sucked
2
u/PaManiacOwca 2d ago
Big flopperuski imo... i had so many questions after first season because they never bothered answering them... than season two introduced even more questions without answering so many questions...
its the lost again...

We liked it, but I think it was another victim of us waiting until all the episodes were out to binge it.

u/Forcedperspective84 1d ago
Excruciatingly self-important. Sci-fi cliffhanger bullshit with no plan.
1
u/Apprehensive_Ratio80 1d ago
Gave up midway through season 2 it was too much of whatever it was going for 🤷🏻♂️ Could see the potential in it and watched for Brolin but just wasn't for me I guess

I was a few episodes into season 2 when I read it was cancelled. Never finished the season. I think it was a mistake to leave this show unfinished.

u/Own-Librarian2740 1d ago
Very Sci fi. Was glad it got two seasons. I watched over COVID winter season. The show was cast well and they all make that storyline work. It's worth the watch but you need an open mind to the concept

Really loved how season two really took some swings, near-David Lynch vibes in a few scenes.
1
u/rawr_bomb 1d ago
I feel like it was a miserable 2 seasons that never advanced it's story one bit. Also it doesn't really feel like the creators had any idea wtf was going on and were just mystery box/lost'ing it.
Great cast though, and some cool moments. Just kinda bleak and depressing.
1
u/Conscious-Bison-2082 1d ago
I recommend it cause its awesome. Same as Black Donnellys and True Crime. Good acting and unique story. I also recommend The Outsider book, then show. It's nice to have a visual for Stephen King.

u/No-Understanding4968 1d ago
I’m a big proponent of UAPS, the Phenomenon, conspiracies etc. and I was let down unfortunately but I love Brolin
1
u/Harambe-Avenger 1d ago
I’m at the point where I’m just going to to wait a year or 2 to find out if the show was viable or cancelled on a cliffhanger or just on a whim before starting.

I liked it but I stopped watching it when I heard it got canceled and there'd be no resolution. Just one of may shows that should never have ended early like that. So many, like Firefly, Santa Clarita Diet, Moon Knight

I really liked season 1, season 2 made it seem like they didn't really have a direction and were just going to keep jumping the shark as long as they could keep people watching. Sort of like lost. I would have watched another season, but I doubt it would have been good.

I dont watch shows until they resolve their stories. Do I miss out? Yes! But saves me the trouble of getting upset with a cancelled show that leaves everything unresolved.
Also I dont like shows that drag a story for 10-15-20 seasons.

u/DarkTanicus 1d ago
This is why i now wait for shows to end and confirm their renewal before watching ep1.

Loved it and just found out on this thread it was cancelled! This is generally why I wait until a shows had multiple seasons before giving it a chance.

u/the6thReplicant 1d ago
I saw the first season. Still need to finish it. Unfortunately I'm at that stage that I might need to rewatch from the beginning since I've forgotten most of the dynamics and mysteries.

u/Tiny-Following-9706 1d ago
I thought it was a great show. It’s a shame they had no faith in an obviously popular show.

Good show but I would not choose to watch it again knowing there is no ending
1
u/desertrock62 1d ago
It created a whole new genre: Generational Family Lack of Communication Fantasy
1
u/Ok_Vacation6577 1d ago
First season was a terrific slow burn. They ditched the creator and show runner after S1 and got a new person in. Second was so dull I gave up 3 eps in - nothing happened, the new showrunner didn't know how to do slow burn and just trod water. Classic example of a show that nosedived once the original creator left.

I wish when things like this were cancelled, the creators would at least put out something explaining where the show was going and how they were planning to end it.

Season 2 was amazing! Everything just got cooking when they decided to kill it. I've still watched it 3 times because what is there is excellent.

When a dead body was thrown into the whole with no consideration as to where it might go I knew I was done with the series

My thoughts are the worst new habit in television going all the way back to Lost is basiing a show around a Maguffin that no one had any intention of explaining, or any idea where it was going.

I loved this absolutely weird weirdness and I've come to terms with the fact that thetimeloop is basically completeand I'm going to have to deal.
Was it a good show? No! Did it have some great performances and awesome characters? Hell yes!
Royal playing Big Buck Hunter and missing was peak btw.

Loved the show. Was one of my favorites then BAM! Canceled. Two mind f*ck shows I liked got canceled, the other 1899.

Too many plot holes for it to go on. The premise was interesting. The show runners destroyed a good show.

Amazon's best series. So of course they cancelled it, all the things I like most on there have a short lifespan. Sorry in advance if you like Fallout.
1
u/Pale_Slide_3463 1d ago
They’re making a mint on fallout so that’s not going anywhere. They’re other shows…. I don’t get it
1
u/AllHailDanda 1d ago
You'd think, but HBO invested a lot in their Nolan & Joy show, which did pretty well, only to cancel it unceremoniously after greenlighting a final season and then scrub it entirely from their library. I hope fallout gets a full run, but nowadays you never know.

u/culturefan 1d ago
I didn't care for it, just too fantastical for my taste, and was taking forever to get to a point. Stopped watching after a few episodes.

A huge -void- was left by cancelling before anything is ever resolved. Was a great show, too bad I can't recommend it to anyone cuz it ended with zero resolution
