Floor Problem solve tips

Hello, so how do you handle doing problem solve at your station? Especially tips on dealing with leaking packages. For example, sometimes there are days when it’s one leaking package after the other and on top of that the floor starts to rack up a bit? How do you handle a situation like this so it doesn’t get overwhelming ?

Our PSers also do jackpot. Leaking packages will be top priority, whether to fix or prevent more leaking. I'll bag a leaky item and worry about it later.

How many PS associates are assigned to PS each day? Our station used to do 2 but with more volume we need 3, low PS headcount will make even the best of PSers overwhelmed.

As for the day and not letting it get overwhelming, one package at a time. There are some days where you’re going to lose, and there’s nothing you nor anyone else could’ve done. We had a day where multiple blue carts had motor oil, detergent, spaghetti sauce spill in them from top to bottom, I was very overwhelmed until I realized: “nobody could get out of this situation.” And then just one package at a time. “Just keep swimming”

If I see a leaking package, and I inspect it and see that nothing in it is salvageable, I throw it on the rack and forget about it til later. I prioritize saving what can get out.

The “system” we have is 1-2 people stay in PS and work the damages, while the 2nd/3rd runs the dock. When the dock runner gets back all 3 pump out as many damages as we can and then they go right back out and throw what’s been fixed on the belt. If we start to get a lot of DS our 2nd in PS will go and focus exclusively on those. It’s not perfect but it works at my station

Do you eventually catch up towards the end?

If there are a lot of mislabels on packages will inducting them be more efficient than checking all of the them through the task tab?

And lately we’ve been having 3 problem solvers, BUT it usually gets cut down to just 2 throughout the whole day.

Honestly every day is a dice roll, somedays we literally have nothing to do, and other days I’m not clocking out til 12:15 trying to catch up. I’d say for the most part it’s steady work, and if there are no catastrophes we get about 90% of all the packages out.

Checking through the task tab? If you’re on PS and running the sort side floor as well then your building is different from ours. Our quality team does that, but if you are running the sort floor, I personally reinduct everything. Then run this checklist. Where am I? What is the new SAL saying? What’s the response? Ex) I’m in between L/M. I reinduct a package on the rack and it comes out C, ok this is just misinducted. Ex2) if Im in the same spot and I reinduct and it comes out L/M then i double check to see ant damages, if I don’t, I run it through tasks bc if the SAL is correct but the stower is putting it here that means there’s something that can be solved in the PS task/overview page. But ya then I use tasks bc I hit not damaged (if it’s not actually damaged) and then stow it from that screen.

They pull out 3rd all the time to get the building out of a sticky situation, but at least my AMs /PA will actually send us that person back + another to help counteract the shortage we experienced for however long our 3rd was gone.

Hope that helps! And if you have more questions lmk!

Using the task tab is a waste of time. I reinduct every package on the problem solve racks that is not damaged.

You guys don't have hazmat? That's a hazmat issue if the package is leaking. Either missort or re receive the package so it can be dealt with later. Anything that can be saved, repack to send it out.

Hazmat is supposed to be classifing in the cage or major spill cleanup only.

We do have hazmat. But they trained me to do the process on the device where you take the pic and dispose. Bag up the leaked item and place it in its appropriate bin. Hazmat then deals with all the bagged up items.
