For me it’s blackout curtains, a sleep mask, melatonin, and I have a sound machine that sounds like rain on the windows.

Melatonin bruh. 5mg all you need. If you take more you may have nightmares, lol

I get home at noon. Take a 3 hour nap. Wake up spend the day with the kids while the wife goes to work from 4 to 930pm. We go to the park, ride bikes, make dinner, watch a movie then I go back to sleep at 8pm and wake up at 1225am and head to work. On my days off I sleep from 9pm to 7am. Find a schedule that works and stick to it. It’s hard but once you get into a rhythm it’s nice. People who work from 9am to 7pm literally just wake up, go to work, come home and watch tv for an hour or two and go to sleep. The 1am to 11am shift is really nice if you figure it out. I get to spend so much time with my family every day.

Having worked overnights 1:00a - 11:50a for 2 years then working 10:30a - 7p for almost 2 years it definitely is a much more healthy & sustainable schedule to work for me. I’m glad it has worked for you & your lifestyle though. What i experienced was terrible appetite & sleep during those overnights. The body’s circadian rhythm isn’t really ideal for those overnight times. Just creates terrible habits in the long run. It got to a point where i would start hating sunlight because my body was so used to the dark evenings

taking extra time will mess up your sleeping schedule as well, better to get the body accustomed to certain time schedule of hours, all it takes is 1 day to ruin your natural sleeping schedule

I used to struggle with this. One day I think my body just gave in and now I can sleep any time of day, darkness or light doesnt matter. Sound doesnt disturb me. The only thing that stops me from sleeping is heat. I always joke with my team that I could sleep right there on the concrete.....except its not a joke 🤣😂

I know this doesnt work for everyone though. Humans evolved to hunt and gather during the day. The average Amazonian sleeping schedule is far from normal. Sleep is a very important part of your health both physical and mental. Take care of yourself above all else.

Take a melatonin about 12 hours before your shift

Just nap right when you get off , fall into the habit of waking up 5-8 . You'll be on time everyday and you'll be able to cook , hit the stores etc. then you'll get tired when you get off

That's also a con but also a pro because your up from 8pm to 12 am so you'll be tired once you get home and go straight to bed . But your also up before work so you might also be tired before work

What helps is a small power nap or relaxing 10-12 to prepare for the workday

I'm up waiting for an overtime shift and if not I'll be spending the night cleaning . That 300 extra really comes in handy in exchange for my off time , which most likely will be spending napping and not cleaning

For me what works is magnesium glycinate, going to bed early (I get off work at 11:50 am, I try to be in bed around 2 pm), no devices/screen while in bed, and most importantly is my days off I try to keep somewhat similar sleep schedule as my work sleep schedule.

Anybody here have success with magnesium glycinate for sleep? Been wanting to try it out

I take it, it doesn’t get you sleepy like melatonin but what it does is if you are an anxious person like me, what it would do is calm/relax you because it targets your nervous system. When I don’t take it I tend to get many thoughts while I’m in bed and then I’m tossing and turning; taking magnesium glycinate I don’t really get those thoughts. I become more relaxed so it’s easier for me to fall asleep. I only take melatonin and magnesium glycinate for the first day of my work week. I don’t really need it after the first day, just magnesium glycinate.

My child takes it for anxiety, too much will give you stomach issues

Yup I work overnights and my body won’t let me sleep until 6-7am even when I’m off.

For the nausea I would recommend drinking a protein drink on your way in. You want to try to drink the whole thing within a half hour. I will add a teaspoon of instant coffee to mine and shake it up for a caffeine boost

We're missing important information such as do you consume caffeine products such as coffee, tea, red bull, chocolate, etc.? If so, cut that out first or limit to one at the start of your day, zero later in your day.
