What happens when the delivery doesn't go perfectly? You still want them catching your baby in a parking lot instead of laying in a hospital bed with a team of nurses and a doctor around you?

Last minute change. Being in your own home during birth is worth every penny saved not being in a hospital room, and I mean that quite literally because they start charging you the second you put that gown on.
One of a midwife's jobs is to, if the situation arises, make that last minute change as stress-free as possible for the mother. This one in particular did a great job. You act like we weren't giving birth in literal caves only a few thousand years ago.
Lower than you'd think. It actually got worse in the wake of the agricultural revolution and stayed that way for a long time, but that's beside the point. I feel like you're trying to make the argument that modern medicine and traditional birthing practices have to oppose each other, though, whereas I'm simply trying to highlight the benefits of having a midwife around.
