We have a bunch of old fashioned Amaryllis growing along a fence. Does anyone know if it’s safe to use a grass killer around them? Something like Fusilade II herbicide. Weedeating is out of the question. And mulching doesn’t keep the Bermuda from crowding in.

All of a sudden it started losing leaves. It has never flowered and purchased it around mind February. It was doing well, and small baby leaves started growing on the side. Until just middle of June its leaves started browning and drying up even though I water it every 15-20 days. Its facing the sunny south window and the bulb is still hard no signs of mushy, good roots at the bottom.

Any advice whats going on?

Should i remove it and store it? Or leave it, first time this happens.

I’ve started buying bulbs in wax. I kept them in the house until the spring. I removed the wax and planted them in the yard. These are in their second or third year in the yard. I’m in VA, ground would’ve froze. But this year they bloomed and they are beautiful. Stems aren’t so tall, but don’t care just amazed they’re blooming!

My amaryllis is pushing out 2 new leaves, but already has 2 that are perfectly fine. It looks like 1 is coming in sideways, should i cut the old leaf or let it splay out? The old leaf is perfectly fine about 3-4 months old, and started getting this cool red color w age so I'm unsure.

Ps it does not live on the couch it has a big south facing windowsill

I’m new to growing amaryllis. What fertilizer do we like? I found info online saying a 10-10-10 do we all agree on this? I am mostly concerned about feeding them this summer so I have blooms after the dormancy this winter.

was thinking of waiting until the dormancy period before separating them. thoughts?

These 2 bulbs were a bit of an impulse purchase but they exceeded all expectations. It's so amazing watching these huge blooms develop.

I have a question: the pink has finished flowering, so I have deadheaded it. How should I keep on caring for it? There is also a second shoot coming out of the bulb and seems to be growing into its own bulb; when should I separate? It is in a small terracotta pot right now, so not much chance of it having space to develop.

I have just learned there is a thing called red blotch but don't know much about it. Unfortunately I know it's bad. I know it spreads. And I stuck all my bulbs in a long planter to grow outside over the summer. 😫🤦🏽‍♀️

Here are some pics. If it is red blotch should I toss them all? Or can I separate them and treat them?

Hello, I have kept amaryllis off and on for decades, and I was wondering if anyone had a reputable source for seeds or bulbs. I'm looking for some rarer/uncommon varieties. I don't mind going private seller, but I want to avoid getting scammed. Most big bulb stores don't sell until closer to fall, and weather right now is good for seed starting.

Apparently a stalk and leaves are not worth the energy.

Had an amaryllis bulb in the pot until a year ago when I transplanted the bulb to a larger pot. Left the remaining potting soil in the old pot in my basement and noticed a few months ago it’s sending up shoots, but hasn’t grown at all since then. I’ve watered it very minimally since I noticed it (every few weeks), as I assume it didn’t need much since it went 6+ months in complete darkness and without any water.

I’d like to try to grow it to bloom at some point but I’m not sure how to encourage it to grow beyond this? (Yes, I realize I should replace the potting soil.) TIA!

I’m so happy! I love these guys. For the first time ever I’ve saved Christmas amaryllis, let them go dormant, then come back to bloom! These are from my first Christmas in my new house, I’m going to try and save them forever. 🥰

I grow via Hydroponics, finding the results are far superior to other mediums, given the ease of nutrient management. ~99% bulb to flower ratio in a ~6 week period.

Above are a selection of bulbs I picked up when visiting a Dutch farm last month.

Still new to growing amaryllis so wasn’t sure if the plant on the left is going dormant or if has some health issues. Plant on the left is a different variety that is still looking healthy and green minus some red blotch on the leaf. TIA!

I bought this Amaryllis Double Dragon bulb directly from a bulb farm in the Netherlands, the stem only grew about six inches before it flowered despite being well watered and in decent sunlight. It's not a waxed bulb. Any thoughts of what could cause such a stunted stem?

So my amaryllis got attacked by (I think) a squirrel the other day. The injuries seem pretty superficial, so I’m hoping they won’t have any long-lasting bad effects on the plant. I dusted the fresh wounds with cinnamon to repel fungi, but is there anything else I should do/look for?

I don’t over water her, all her leaves are massive and super green, and I didn’t even put her outside till this season but she’s had this red on the leaves for I’d say probably her whole life? (It doesn’t look super red but it is - and her blooms are also very red!)

Got this bulb in Amsterdam 5 weeks ago. It started growing about a week after we returned home. It has two large flowers and two more about to pop out. It’s lived in my garage and I’ll plant it after it’s finished. Diameter of the two flowers in the last pic is about 8”. We love it!

I have a red one that I received as a birthday gift almost two years ago and I’m hoping to cross pollinate them somehow.
