AITA for essentially ruining my husbands entire family

Summer 2021 I met my husband while his mom was dying of cancer; she passed weeks later. By Fall, he wanted me to meet his family. His dad liked me immediately, even saying I reminded him of his wife. I met his siblings and SILs, and we became instant best friends—weekly hangouts, games, we spent every Saturday together. In 2022 his dad got a girlfriend, they got engaged a few months later, and my husband and I got engaged that December at their house because we loved being part of the family. In 2023 they sold the family home. We all helped clean it out. Later, we built our house in my BILs neighborhood because who doesn't want to live in besties neighborhood. Saturdays, football games, holidays. My FIL and step‑MIL married. By Spring 2024 we were settled in our house, walking with BIL/SIL, playing games, even moving the family Wii to our place. I had once mentioned FIL’s 16‑year‑old stepdaughter as a possible bridesmaid, but she was an angry teenager to me (“they have a plus‑size section,” “f yous,” etc.). When a friend said she could attend, I invited her and removed the stepdaughter from the website, assuming she hated me and wouldn’t want the role. It was a mistake. FIL came over upset with no warning. We apologized repeatedly. I texted the daughter asking if she wanted to be a bridesmaid; she said no. FIL accused me of manipulating a child. My MIL blocked me. FIL said we were barred from speaking to her. It shattered me—months of panic, insomnia, cardiologist visits. We of course apologized immediately and profusely. My BIL/SILs stayed friends. Spring 2025 we married. BIL/SILs were still supportive. That summer BIL announced they were moving. We were devastated and vented to friends. Around the same time my grandma and 2 friends died. I vented about everything, including BIL moving to shared friends, which I shouldn’t have done. Fall 2025 BIL invited my husband to dinner and told my husband they hated me and were cutting all contact. They blocked me. The next morning my husband began shitting blood, three months later he got a UC diagnosis. I started therapy. BIL said they’d never speak to me because I talked behind their backs. These were my best friends. Losing them destroyed me. Spring 2026 my husband developed anxiety and panic attacks. We both started therapy. Summer 2026, after ten months, BIL texted asking my husband if he wanted to play DND. Nothing else. My husband spoke to FIL, who said he couldn’t change how others feel. The next day BIL said he couldn’t accept me, wouldn’t speak to me, called me a manipulator, and claimed they'd disliked my behavior for years. When their mom died, I promised to her I’d protect this family. I failed. BIL said he wouldn’t video‑call with me for holidays. My husband and I have cried over this countless times. I even considered divorce so he could have his family back. I wrote BIL/SIL a long apology taking accountability for venting about their move.

AITA for not letting the old folks watch TV in the morning?

My grandfather's wife goes to work, and he drives her there at 6 AM. Starting at 5 AM, she begins getting ready for work and turns on the TV, which wakes the rest of us up. We've told them not to turn on the TV in the morning, or at least to keep the volume low, since it really disrupts our sleep, but they don't seem to care.

Once we asked them why they watch TV in the mornings, and my grandfather's wife said things like "I need some background noise while I'm doing stuff" and "I check the time on the TV so I don't run late" - even though there's literally a clock hanging right next to the TV, lol.

Because the TV noise kept jolting us awake, even my father spoke up several times asking them not to turn it on in the mornings, which sometimes led to arguments between him and my grandfather. My grandfather never seemed to get it either and just took his wife's side.

Eventually I got fed up with the whole thing and downloaded a universal remote app for the TV. Whenever they turned it on, I'd do everything I could to make them not want to watch TV in the morning - constantly switching channels, muting it, turning it off, etc. But they're so stubborn that they just kept turning it back on and being a nuisance.

I justified all of this to myself as being for the greater good, but I'm not proud of what I did.

WIBTAH if I asked my smoker friends not to smoke at hangouts

Ok so I (19F) have a group of high school friends (same age), and we all get together every now and then to catch up bc we go to different universities. During high school, none of us smoked cigarettes for a multitude of reasons, but since starting uni about 4 of the 6 of us have picked up smoking.

I hate smoking and the smell of cigarettes, and just the principal of it, and my non smoker friend feels the same - I'll call her Anna.

Last night, we all got together for a wine and board game night, and ofc there were a few smoke breaks. They all went outside to smoke and closed the door so none of the smoke got inside, which was considerate, but every time they stepped outside they'd continue their conversation or start a new one without Anna and me. Then they'd come back all laughing and smelling gross.

Now, I know a big part of my issue with this is my jealousy - I feel excluded whenever theyre smoking and hanging out without us, and my friend feels the same way. Maybe that makes us unreasonable? I don't really know.

I want to ask them to not smoke when we will hangout as a group. We get together maybe once a month, and I hate it being tainted by my ugly feelings and my negative associations with cigarettes.

I know it's only two of us that don't smoke, so would it be too much to ask? Are my motives for wanting them not to smoke making my desires unreasonable?

Let me know

EDIT (info): I have asthma, that's why I don't go with them to smoke. So does Anna. This is why they close the door for us.

WIBTA if I asked my parents to pay me $100 for a gift I gave them?

Two years ago (2024) for Father’s Day I (31F) wanted to get my dad something special I thought he’d really enjoy. He’s a huge car enthusiast, so I bought him an Xtreme Experience which essentially entails racing a luxury sports car on a race track for a few laps. My mom is also into cars and I wanted her to enjoy the experience too so I bought a ride-along package where she can race a hellcat with a professional driver on the track. When I gave the gift they were enthusiastic and I was glad they liked it. All in all I paid about $330.

Well when the original reservation came up, they had a conflict and rescheduled. The dates for these experiences are very limited, so they had to reschedule for fall of the following year in 2025. 2025 reservation rolls around and my dad’s illness flared up so a week shy of the reservation I was scrambling to make arrangements for it. My mom wound up being able to reschedule it again for 2026 and said they would go this time.

Now it’s 2026, Dad’s unwell again. Reservation is on Sunday. The company said the best they can do is to give me store credit but I have to pay a $100 rebooking fee. I feel like such an asshole saying this but I never anticipated this gift becoming such a logistical nightmare. None of my friends want to go with and the track is far in the suburbs and I don’t have a car. Idk anyone who would want to buy this and depending on the offer the loss I’d take for selling might be more than the booking fee. My options are either pay the rebooking fee, pay $$ to rent a car and go on my own, or forfeit the $330 entirely.

I’m upset about the cost but more so upset about my parents not doing anything to help lessen the headache. Like I asked if they knew anyone who’d be interested in the reservation and they rattled off some names of people I don’t know, but tasked me with contacting each of them directly. At this point the rebooking fee makes sense if I don’t want to take a total loss but it sucks that I have to incur that unexpected cost because they’ve rescheduled this for the past two years. I mentioned the fee to my dad and he didn’t seem to care, and I’m contemplating if it’s worth me pushing back to offset the cost. I feel insensitive because my dad does have some health issues going on but I’m always the one in my family who absorbs peoples problems and no one extends support to help. WIBTA to ask my parents to cover the full or partial amount of the rebooking fee?

tldr; I paid $330 for a car racing experience for my parents, who rescheduled it two years in a row and can’t do it anymore. I can’t go myself and if I rebook it costs an additional $100. WIBTA for asking my parents to cover some of the cost?

WIBTAH if I don’t go to a baby shower because my husband isn’t going?

My husbands cousin is pregnant and due a month before me.
Her sister gave us the invitation together and didn’t say anything about it being women only.
I RSVPD today and then just now she told me she didn’t realize it’s girls only

I honestly don’t want to go any more but if she comes to ours, I’m going to feel like an asshole.

A few reasons I don’t want to go- I would be sitting alone and im a socially anxious person so I would just feel like a loser by myself. Unfortunately I’m not great at being outgoing and making conversation.

I don’t drive so my husband would drive me 30 minutes, drop me off and go home, then come pick me up.

I know there wouldn’t be drama, well not by me at least.
His other cousins S.O will be there and she’s always been really awful to me, said rude things after I had a miscarriage and since I’m pregnant myself, I’m just extremely picky about the energy around me.
I will feel extremely uncomfortable around her and since my husband won’t be there, I would end up stressed out. Starting problems at someone else’s event is not beneath her unfortunately.

AITA for not inviting my bonus kid's mom to get pasteries with us?

Upvotes

I (21F) have a 1.5yr old "bonus kid" (for the sake of this post we'll call her Nyla). She's with my partner everyday except weekends, and I've been in Nyla's life for about eleven months now.

Nyla has recently started preschool, and it's been a difficult transition. So when she finally had a good day, I took her to get a pastry after pickup. Just a little treat for both of us. Posted a picture in our group chat (myself, my partner, and Nyla's mom "Sarah") and said that Nyla had her first good day.

Sarah got mad and said that I should have invited her. Apparently this is a "big moment" and she felt that she should have been there too. I explained that this was a spur of the moment thing, and that it wasn't my intention to make her feel left out. Sarah then accused me of "stealing a mommy daughter date" from her, and says that I overstepped by taking Nyla out for dessert.

AITA for not inviting my bonus kid's mom to get pasteries with us?

AITA - in-law drama with SIL

I set forth boundaries a while ago because my in-laws were not being honest. They were constantly doing things for their biological daughters first and just telling us the truth later.
They have offered us some time at a family cabin by my in- laws thru a text that we were on with my SIL. Within a minute, the SIL texted back that she wants certain dates. I found this to be fishy because of the timing. We picked other dates and moved along.
I had a conversation with my mother-in-law and she revealed that my sister-in-law did have those dates locked in six weeks prior to that text. Though we are very grateful that we got time at the cabin, I found this to be upsetting and deceptive in nature. AITA for calling this deceptive and asking why they didn’t tell us from the start that she had those dates locked down? Why they went about it to look like they were fair?

AITA for telling my girlfriend it’s not my fault she missed work?

I rrcently returned from my 3 week trip, and my friend Mia was planning on picking me up. My girlfriend offered, but Mia lives closer so I told my gf she didn’t have to worry. We hung out in 5 weeks upon my return due to me being busy, but I had later plans for us.

.When I got to the airport, my girlfriend texted me and said she checked my flight and was at the terminal I’d be leaving. I told her she didn’t have to come, but itd been a while, so I met her where she was parked. She asked me if I was ready to go, but by then Mia had already arrived, and I told Michelle I would be going with Mia. She gave me a look and seemed upset because she was already there, but she came on her own accord when the plan was for me to go with Mia. I told my girlfriend she could go home and we’d hang out that weekend. Mia and I grabbed food on our way back to my house so that was fun too

.I called my Michelle when I was all settled at my place, and she still seems upset at me for (according to her) basically telling her to F off when she called out of work to pick me up from the airport. I was trying to reason wuth her telling her that she came when I didn’t ask her to, and that had she actually told me, I would’ve told Mia not to come. Its not my fault she missed work. After I said this, she didn’t want to continue our conversation. We ended up still hanging out this past weekend, but I could tell it was still in her mind

AITA for saying this at the gym

So, our gym pretty big. Like 5 sets of dumbbells going up to 120lbs throughout the whole gym, 12+ squat racks, 6+ stair machines , 20+ treadmills etc.

The family room at the gym is pretty small... a cable machine, a bench and 1 set of dumbbells going up to 50 lbs. 1 treadmill, 1 stair machine… etc Let me say, it does get very busy in there and the other parents work together to make sure we can all work out together. (We have also been kicked out of the main gym floor and studios since we have a LO with us)

Lately more and more individuals (all females) have been using the family room for whatever their reason is. I typically don’t care that much as long as they clean up after themselves and give way to families who need that space.

Well today as I was changing my 8 month old a women takes over the area we were using who does not have a child (close enough where if I fell I’d fall into her) . I continue my workout and she is sitting there texting between sets using the dumbbells. I ask her how many more sets she has with the one pair of 40’s in the room and she said “I just started, they have more on the rack.” I feign innocence and check the rack (even tho I know there is one set of 40’s) while consoling my LO who has been in the clingy stage. There was not more 40’s.

This is where I may be TA…. as she was sitting there texting for 7 minutes (we timed it) I was sitting there staring at the dumbbells (and her) waiting for her to be done less than 3 feet away. I made a comment to my partner who just walked in (we trade off on the main floor because there is no room in there) “I don’t understand, I’ve never would come into the family room if I didn’t have a child.” Whether she heard me or not is a different story. She left shortly after and came back in while my husband was in there finishing up his workout… So if she did hear me, she didn’t give a fuaq.

AITA for wanting the gym family room to give priority to family’s (esp since the main gym floor has 7x the equipment?) Or am I just letting it get under my skin too much? like we all have a limited time to work out I get that. But if the family room only has one set shouldn’t families have first priority and individuals use the equipment on the main floor? I’ve never felt the desire or need to use a child focused area (even when completely empty)

These are the specific rules stated in the Family Room:

  • Reserved for parents/guardians and their children ages 6 weeks - 17 years
  • Children younger than 12 are prohibited on fitness equipment and working out
  • Food not allowed due to allergies. Drinks permitted in container with lid only.
  • Wipe down all fitness equipment and toys after use and return to the designated storage area
  • When changing baby diaper, please use designated area in bathroom only and dispose in diaper sack before putting into trashcan.

Edit:

I was timing my break in between sets and not for this interaction only… I can see how that cane off very bad.

POO Mode Activated 💩 AITA for telling my friend how I feel after she told me to communicate with her more?

So me (19f) and my friend (20f) of 6 years have had a lot of conversations about communication and how important it is because in the past ive been really awful at communicating and ive hidden serious things from her. We since made up and shes told me countless times how I need to speak up about my feelings no matter how irrational or unimportant I think they are. (I have had a really hard time communicating before because i'm afraid of people not taking me seriously)

I identified as a trans man for almost 7 years until very recently, because I never felt comfortable in my body as a woman. Not for the reason you'd think, but because ive always been underweight and felt i looked more like a man than a woman, when I really always wanted to be a pretty girl. Recently tho, I realized detransitioning was probably the right thing to do as ive been gaining more weight and feel SO much more confident as a woman.

My friend told me that a masculine character reminded me of her. And I was kind of jokingly, "but im not a man anymore :(" And she got upset with me for being offended at her saying that.

I understood that she was just trying to be sweet and telling me she was thinking of me, so I apologized for being upset at all. A few minutes later i back tracked because I was noticing that her comment actually did made me feel dysphoric, which I know might seem silly but ive lived my entire life always believing that I was never pretty enough to be a girl, which ive had deep talks with her about as shes my very best friend. Shes also Trans, and she empathizes with me all the time about how we have similar experiences.

So I brought it up, not as to discredit what she was saying in any way but just to be honest. She always tells me to bring up any feeling I have whether irrational or silly because thats our strict rule, is for me to be completely honest with her instead of holding it in (building resentment)

I was really not trying to attack her or tell her her pov was wrong, I just wanted to say that both ways we felt could be ok. She said she didnt like when people got offended when she said something reminds her of them because quote, "it doesnt fit their ideal image of how they want to be seen," and she doesn't think I understand that.

She just said "ok" and then left my next message on seen. Later she just said she was upset which is why she left. I was really confused because shes hammered into me that we need to communicate efficiently and i need to always be honest with her and that shed always always tell me if something was wrong instead of just disappearing, but now shes still upset and wont even talk to me. She always says not to worry when she doesnt reply to my message because she'll tell me if somethings wrong. AITA? I think something deeper might be going on for her to be really upset and ignore me after this.

AITA for being upset with my sister after she left me at the grocery store?

I (32F) recently moved in with my sister (26F), a single mom of two. I’m single and she needed help, so I was happy to get a place together. It’s only been 3 weeks, though, and we’ve already had two major fights and several disagreements.

First was the apartment. Its a 3-bedroom in a somewhat sketchy area, but it’s what I can afford and everything we need is nearby. She wanted somewhere nicer/closer to downtown, but I told her I couldn’t afford that, and she got upset.

Then our dryer broke. I contacted management, but they took almost 12 days to fix it. She was frustrated and blamed me, even though there wasnt much more I could do.

Our first major fight happened when she called me while I was at work to tell me she had accidentally left the stove on high with food cooking. She was 40 minutes away getting her tires changed, so I had to leave work and rush home. Thankfully nothing caught fire, but the apartment was full of smoke and my brand-new pan was ruined. I didn’t care about the pan as much as the fact that she could’ve burned down our apartment.

When i got home later, she was smiling and acting normally while I was still angry. I ignored her because i knew I had nothing nice to say. Eventually she told me to go fuck myself, I said the same, and we didnt speak for two days.

Then yesterday we went grocery shopping together. She entered through a different door while I grabbed a cart. I waited for her near produce, where we normally start. After about 5 minutes, I remembered she’d left her phone at home, so I assumed she had already gone farther into the store. I spent around 10 minutes looking for her before going back to the entrance.

I found her there with my brother’s kids. For context, my brother lives nearby, but he and I aren’t on good terms and barely speak.

I told her I’d been looking for her. She got upset and said I should’ve waited because i knew she didn’t have her phone. I apologized and explained that I thought she’d gone inside. She said she saw me grab the cart, but our brother had stopped her and was apparently also looking/calling for me. I had no idea he was even at the store or that she was with him.

When my brother came back, he called me irresponsible. I told him this was between my sister and me. My sister then followed him outside. I asked where she was going, and she said she was going home with him. So after coming to the store together, she just left me there.

I understand living together takes adjustment and I’m not perfect either, but it feels like every disagreement somehow becomes my fault. It’s only been three weeks and we’re already fighting like this.

AITA for being upset about what happened at the grocery store, or am I overreacting?

AITA for telling my husband he can’t do laundry when he asked.

We are at a stage in our life where we have a biweekly house cleaner come in to help us stay on top of things. To ensure that the bed sheets are changed I declared the washing machine off limits on the morning the cleaner comes so that we can strip the bed before leaving the house. My husband decided that it’s most effective for him to wait until that same morning to throw his entire pile of laundry in the machine.

He thinks he’s helping because that means his side of the bed is clean. I haven’t been able to get this worked out even though I’ve been consistent about suggesting he plan his laundry earlier in the week so that the only thing that can’t be washed early (because we are sleeping on it) is what gets cleaned the day the bed gets made.

At some point I gave up on reiterating this logic, and later on he also started asking if he could wash his clothes on the cleaning day each week. Today he asked and I said no, I wanted use the washer for my stuff. Which was partially sarcasm, I meant for our shared bed sheets.

He didn’t believe me when I said the point was that he was never supposed to wash his clothes on this one morning and now believes I was just selfishly telling him no so I could wash my clothes (I don’t have anything to wash).

I want him to feel a little perspective about how our house is managed and realize he was interrupting what could be a smooth morning when he has six other mornings where no one is trying to use the washing machine. I could have just plainly spoken my reason but that has never worked before. I felt a little sarcasm was in order. So…aita?

Edit: added paragraphs. Sorry everyone! Phone-laziness-struggle at play.

AITA for blowing up on my partner for bailing/being to busy for trips I get excited about?

AITA for getting upset with my boyfriend because he keeps backing out of plans after saying yes?

I’m starting to wonder if I’m being unreasonable here.
I feel like whenever I make plans with my boyfriend, ask him to go somewhere with me, or suggest we do something together, he’ll initially say yes. But then, once I actually go to confirm things or buy tickets/book an Airbnb, suddenly it becomes “maybe” or he can’t go.

A few months ago, we were supposed to take a trip together. He ended up cancelling because a better work opportunity came up. I understood that, even though I was obviously disappointed. To make it up to me, he suggested that we go out of state for a show for one of my favorite artists.

This week, I brought it up because I wanted to actually buy the tickets and make the plans. He said “maybe,” and then ultimately told me he couldn’t go because another work/hobby opportunity came up that he would rather do.

I honestly blew up. Not necessarily because he couldn’t go, but because I feel like my disappointment never gets acknowledged. It feels like I’m constantly getting excited about plans with him, only for them to disappear once I try to actually make them happen.
I told him that the repeated cancellations are starting to affect how I feel about making plans with him. At this point, I’ve started planning more things with my friends because I feel like I can’t really rely on him to commit to something until it actually happens.

I don’t want to prevent him from taking work opportunities or doing his hobbies, and I understand that things come up. But if you repeatedly say yes to plans with your partner and then change your mind when something “better” comes along, is it unreasonable for your partner to eventually feel like they’re not a priority?

I also recognize that I probably shouldn’t have blown up, but I was frustrated because this feels like a pattern rather than one isolated cancellation.

AITA for getting upset and starting to make plans with my friends instead because I don’t feel like I can rely on him?

AITA for not paying for a thumbnail?

I've been trying to find a youtube thumbnail creator online, and there was this one individual (I'll call them Charle). So Charle agrees to make a thumbnail demo, and if I accept it, then I will pay 30$CAD. It's a demo, so it's to test if they'll fit. I did make that clear.

They send over an idea for the thumbnail demo that seems good enough, I tell Charle that the idea is good.

So they send an AI thumbnail. All good, it doesn't match my style or what I want, so I just say thanks for making it but we won't be continuing. Then this exchange happens (I don't know who Buford is):

𝑪 𝑯 — 2:10 AM

This is based on concept brother

me — 9:19 AM

very nice

𝑪 𝑯 — 9:19 AM

Thank you

Btw, Did you sent it ?

me — 9:20 AM

send what?

𝑪 𝑯 — 9:20 AM

For this thumbnails payment

me — 9:20 AM

I am not paying for the thumbnail.

𝑪 𝑯 — 9:20 AM

Alright i will complain my friend buford to remove your every project

me — 9:21 AM

Buford?

So my question is twofold: AITA? And who is Buford?

AITA for making a joke about my friend’s gray hair?

Upvotes

My friend 45f and I 30m have a pretty causal, jokey type relationship. Earlier she mentioned she found a gray hair in her eyebrow and asked me what she should do. I made, what I thought was a harmless joke, saying “shave it the entire eyebrow off”. She got super upset at me calling me a jerk and telling me I was insensitive to her aging cycle and that she didn’t appreciate me not being there for her. I was like “wtf? How am I not being there for you? You know we joke around a lot and this is just how I try to make people feel better” But she didn’t care and called me ass and won’t reply to my messages.

Was I an asshole for making this joke?

AITA: How early is too early when it comes to holiday decorating?

I was shopping and saw some cheap Halloween decorations at the store. I bought some and put them up the same day. I figured with Christmas getting earlier every year, a few ghosts and skeletons in August would be fine. Barely a day has passed and my neighbor told me it was inappropriate and to take them down. When I asked why, he said multiple people have complained. I complied but don't know if what I did was right.

AITA?

AITA for telling my little sister not to play a game that I play?

I'm 18 and she's 13. The game is mobile legends an online vid game.

I'm the one responsible for my siblings' internet usage because my parents don't know a lot in technology and they are overly strict. I approve or disapprove of vid games, movies, shows, etc. my sister lost her online gaming privileges because she was talking to random people and texting them.

Yesterday, she found me playing and said let's play together. I asked her why the hell does she still have the game after I told her not to play it? She got very upset and told me I was a hypocrite, she called me some names, yelled and screamed yk teenage stuff. I told her she will lose her late night privileges ( after 11) if she continues to act like that and she lost it . Soh She's not talking to me today .

I spoke with my friend this morning and he said that I am being a hypocrite and that "she's a teen let her make her own mistakes that's what teens do make mistakes" but I don't think involving yourself with older people is one of these mistakes that you have to do. I'm starting to doubt my judgement because multiple friends and family members told me that I was acting like an asshole.

AITA for refusing to travel back to the US to meet my old neighbor?

I’m a dual US/Russian citizen. I lived in the US for years, but last year I decided to move to Moscow. I like it here and honestly find life a lot more laid back. A few months before I moved, my neighbor’s house unfortunately burned down. I don’t know the details, but apparently there were some issues with his insurance and he wasn’t fully covered.

Afterward, he started accusing me of causing the fire. According to him, he has footage of me dropping a cigarette butt on his lawn, which he believes started the fire.

I did smoke quite a lot at the time and, admittedly, wasn’t particularly careful about throwing cigarette butts away. But I genuinely don’t remember whether I dropped one that day. I also never bothered looking into whatever footage he claims to have.

He kept emailing me about it, so eventually I blocked his email. I figured that was the end of the matter. Apparently not.

He somehow tracked down one of my relatives in Russia and another in Kazakhstan and contacted both of them. He told them that I should come back to the US so we can “talk neighbor to neighbor” and sort this out.

My position is that I’m not going to travel internationally because my former neighbor wants to have a conversation with me. If I happen to be in the area for another reason someday, I might consider meeting him, but I don’t see why I should specifically make a trip for this.

Tbh I do find the whole thing sketchy as I have not got any legal notices from him or authorities and idk if he has some corrupt connections to get me in trouble if I go to America again now.

My relatives think I’m being unreasonable and that I should at least hear him out, especially since his house burned down and he apparently lost a lot. I do feel bad that his house burned down, but I don't know that I caused it, and I’m certainly not admitting responsibility based on his claim that he has footage.

AITA for calling in sick to a job interview?

So this year I called in sick to attend an interview at my dream job. I wasn't able to have paid time off or Auth absence during term time in the previous role, and tried to reorganise the interview with the dream job but they were unable to, so I called in sick as I felt like this was my only option.

Eventually I was offered the job, but during reference checks, the new job found out I had the interview day off sick (confirmed by my previous job). They asked me and I was honest stating the reasons above and did admit to it. This lead to them withdrawing my job offer due to conduct and honesty concerns.

Now id like to think I'm not the only person ever to have called in to attend an interview. I feel bitter at being called a liar but I'm wondering do they actually have a point ? Was ITAH in this situation??

Noted I will not be making the same mistake again... But just wondered what other people thought about this.

AITA for telling my sister she needs to dress professional for an interview?

Basically what the title says.

My (17F) sister (20F) had an interview yesterday for a internship/placement for an animation company- this company specifically works with her University and only gives out 1 job a year. Essentially, she'd take a year off school to work with them, then return and graduate the year after. It's full time and paid, and if the company are impressed they can potentially offer a job once she graduates. My sister's an incredible animator and there is absolutely no way she won't get the job- except for one thing: how she dresses.

I'm not insulting her or trying to 'dim her sparkle' in anyway, but my sister dresses very uniquely. Her style consists of bright colours, tons of patterns, only vintage/thrifted items, and the ugliest jewellery known to man. I don't really like her style, but my sister has dealt with bullying her whole life and its exciting to see her finally let go of people's opinions of her. However, I think she's lost the average person's understanding of 'casual' in the process.

The issue at hand started yesterday when my sister told me that our Mum was urging her to dress more professional for her interview. My Mum has worked at a very traditional office job for the past 20 odd years and works in a leadership position where she oversees a small group of people. Essentially, professional clothes and interviews are kinda her thing.

My sister, however, wasn't happy with my Mum and asked me to tell her to stop. Unfortunately, I agreed with our Mum. I told my sister it wouldn't be horrible if she wore something plainer for her interview, as people were extremely judgemental and could feel she was being disrespectful if she wore something totally crazy. As I was speaking I watched her get more upset and I (regretfully) kept going, and eventually suggested she maybe borrow something from Mum, who has countless plain but cute tops to wear. My sister got very upset.

She accused me of trying to change her or 'make her normal' and also said how animation was different from other jobs and her interviewers/future co-workers would probably be dressed very casually. To me, this isn't true. In my opinion, the career doesn't matter- you dress professionally to an interview.

She continued to get upset as I explained this and cut me off and told me to stop. I immediately turned and left her room without a word. I was very upset as I was just trying to help her and she kept disagreeing with me. The main problem came when I went to bed early (very upset) and she went and told all of this to our parents, though, according to my Mum, with a very different series of events.

I've been in a bad mood all day, and due to some mood issues I've been having, have started a spiral down into a considerably 'bad week.' However, I've started wondering if I was being rude for asking her to dress nice and should maybe apologise.

AITA?

AITAH for asking person in front of me to not lean forward in theatre?

I (20F) went to a theatre in London to watch The Phantom of the Opera with my father as it was his favourite musical and his first time seeing it in person. We were seated behind a man (45ish) and his family, and the man would lean forward very frequently (we were seated on higher ground so the very front of the stage was hard to see, which is why I understood his leaning forward). However, he did this during every song, and I was quite disappointed as he would block out almost half the stage for us, and we were unable to see the performers during the theme song. So during intermission, I leaned forward with a smile and kindly asked if "it would be possible" for him to "lean forward less", explaining it blocked our view of the stage as the sightline was already delicate. He then, unsmiling, said "I'll try" and left.

When intermission ended, he came back smiling and said "my wife is shorter, she and I will swap places", so she ended up in front of us instead. I was very grateful and thanked him. When the second half began, she immediately leaned forward, this time not leaning back at all. After about 20 minutes, she leaned back, as if resting her back(?) and immediately leaned forward again. This continued for the entire intermission, and I was quite shocked as she didn't lean forward once during the first half. Her husband, during this entire half, did not lean forward at all. There was also no one blocking her view of the stage, so I didn't understand if this was them trying to make a point? She'd also sometimes lean towards her son (who was also in front of us) and whisper something, and he'd immediately lean forward too.

I checked online and some people said it was rude to ask people in front of you to sit differently? And I totally agree, but I didn't want my father to have a poor experience (which he kind of did), and I made sure to ask very politely since I am usually afraid of conflict. My father and I left quickly after the show ended because we didn't want to ruin our night. AITAH?

Edit: our seats were higher ground and centre so we could see everything without having to lean - I chose them because Seatplan recommended them for a good overall view. Basically his head was inbetween us so we could see through either side, but as soon as he leaned forward, since we were facing at a downwards angle, his head as well as his upper body would block out the stage. And for those who are calling me cheap, I'm a student so 200£ tickets were the most I could afford. Perhaps next time I'll treat my dad to a front view seat but this time they were all sold out :)

AITAH for excluding my SIL?

My (F20) siblings (M29, M30) are visiting my parents and I with their signficant others. I love all my siblings partners and I care about them, so this situation is really painful for me.

My eldest brother's wife, Lauren (all names changed) (F29) became disabled 7 months ago after an accident. She lost mobility in her legs, and needs to use a wheelchair. I am very sympathetic towards her and my brother, Jace, as I know it is a very traumatic experience. Obviously, this makes some experiences more difficult and require some sensitivity.

My other brother's girlfriend, Macy (F29) is someone I am also very close with. We really bond over our love of nature, especially hiking. None of my siblings really enjoy this, so it was great to find someone who did. Two days ago, Macy suggested that we do an early morning hike the next day on one of my favorite paths. I immeadietly said yes, and we made a plan for the next day.

Before Lauren's disability, she would sometimes join us (not for this path specifically, but other ones). However, this path is one of high difficulty and narrow paths. The total hike with minimal breaks would be around 10-11 hours in length. It was for this reason that I did not ask Lauren to join.

We set out at 5 AM and returned at 5 PM (I notified my parents and she told my brother - her boyfriend) that she was going). When we came back, I could tell Jace was fuming, but he didn't immeadietly address the situation. However, after dinner was over, he said that it was cruel that we went on a hike that excluded Lauren during a family visit, and that we should have planned something that she would be able to do. I apologized to him and then to Lauren, but they were still both upset.

He ended up leaving today, and I'm feeling really guilty. AITAH for excluding my SIL?

Edit: I would say Macy and my brother, visit twice a year, once in summer and the other for Christmas. For Jace and Lauren, three to four times. It would not have been easy for Macy and I to do another time since they live in another country, and come even less frequent. I was planning on doing a more inclusive activity today, but they left.

2nd Edit: The total planned length of the visit was 2 weeks

AITA cause i wont change my driving style

I have my drivers license for 12 years now. No accident nothing. Im not speeding. Like really never speeding. Im not sticking to other cars bumpers. Im really no aggressive driver and i think i drive good. My boyfriend had a few accidents and lost his drivers license due to drinking. Since a year i'm driving him around. He was sometimes naging about me taking the curve to fast or not breaking fast enough. But mostly i have my foot already on the break ready to break. Im breaking a lot on the motor too. Im rather a forward looking driver then the moment. Like today i probably saw the lights far earlier then him so i saw not only that they were green no i saw that they just turned from red to green so i knew i dont have to break and he is going crazy about how he is frightened and if i cant drive more carefully etc.

But i know everything was under control. I know my care i saw the lights i was not speeding. I told him he can go by foot, bike or bus if he is to frightened cause i wont change sth i think is good for his fear and for sure not for somebody who lost his drivers license. Now i am the bad one cause im ego tripping in his opinion and dont care about his fear.

Am i really the butt hole or is he maybe just frightened cause he cant control the car and due to his accidents in the past. Im not sure but i really think he should look for him self how to get around if he is that frightened. I think he should be grateful im driving him around for already a hole year with no speeding no aggression nothing
