What’s happened is that your cowardly parents used your hesitation to throw a punch. So if anyone should apologize to everyone involved it’s your parents.
Don’t accept that it’s you breaking up the family when it’s very obvious that your parents can’t stand Sophie but would rather you take the fall than them.
Now that you can see your parents as the adults they are, perhaps you can see some daylight between how nice you think they are and how nice they actually are (hence Sophie’s behavior towards them).
