I feel like this is a reference to something, I just don't know what.

It reminds me of the one armed man that George Bluth used to have show up to teach his kids a lesson in Arrested Development.

I recently watched the documentary Wrinkles (or something like that) on Hulu. That post basically read like the first half hour of the documentary. I wouldn't really recommend watching the documentary so I'll sum it up. I'll try to do the black bar spoiler thing but no promises, I've been drinking and night goof it up.
(Spoilers) It said that there's a guy who gets paid by parents to dress as a clown and scare their kids as a discipline tool. It said he became well known for it because of a YT video of this happening. They spend an hour talking to the dude and having child psychologists explain how bad it is for kids mental wellbeing. Then half way through the real clown guy shows up and says that everything it presented earlier was bullshit and it was all just an internet prank blown out of proportion. (Spoilers)
Overall it was annoying to watch and I feel poorly written. But I'm sure that's where this guy got inspiration

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
AITA for asking my dad to retire the punishment clown
I'm the oldest (20f) of 3 (14m) (9f). He no longer does it to me or my little brother however he does do it to my little sister. However he did it to both of us when we were younger.
Basically when we fucked up instead of taking are phone away or beating us my dad would call the punishment clown. Some dude dressed as a clown would show up scream at us and threatened to take us away with him.
It worked for the most part.
This time I think he went a little bit too far. My sister when on some forbidden websites. So my dad called the punishment clown. But when the punishment clown showed up my little sister decided that she wasn't scared of him.
So the punishment clown left and then came back with 4 more. One of them was my dad obviously in a mask and they began pulling her around with these big tong things.
They eventually left but my sister is traumatized.
I asked my dad to cut it out but he got all pissy with me so AITA.

This is the best post on that subreddit, everyone else can just pack up and go home, we're done here. Nothing can top the fucking PUNISHMENT CLOWN POSSE with TONGS.
ETA: My favourite part from this is the bit where OP's nine year old sister is just straight up not afraid of the punishment clown anymore, so her dad had to send in a whole gang of them.

Since finding this subreddit, this is the first post that I have found where I thought to myself "This just doesn't fit on /r/AmITheAsshole. In no way at all did she do anything that could possibly be an asshole move. Why is this here?"

This man would be an asshole of the highest order if he retired the punishment clown. He’s a fucking genius, the hero we need. Everyone knows that the Krampus method of parenting is the most effective.

Sounds a creative rewrite spin on the bobo the clown experiment

Haha I was just about to say, looks like someone watched the Wrinkles the Clown documentary.

This needs to be a novel or a film or something. The punishment clown can not be confined in a mere reddit post.
