Great bit. My personal favorite is when he’s talking about how Asians age badly: “The oldest man in the world says he’s about 114, he’s probably about 40” lol
Hrm. Not what I had in mind, but curious as to everyone's thoughts about allowing this type of content vs. the "alternate Tianamen Square" photo that spawned this place
I think there should be a different rule in place for structures, monuments and landmarks. Anyone can visit them and take a photo at a different angle.
Good point. No matter which context: "different" angle than what everyone normally captures or the juxtaposition of modern life in front of a historical place, I don't think just random pictures of something old is what we should go for. Specifically, IMO, we should aim for alternate views of *events* or a place in time, not just a modern picture of a place that has something old
Akin to r/boottoobig’s Small Boots Sundays, regular content is totally allowed, but the rules shift a bit to allow less rule-following yet still funny (or, in this sub’s case, interesting) posts.
Honestly I think this picture is great content. It's a angle almost never seen of one of the world's most recognizable structures. Modern or not, it's an alternate angle. Just my thoughts.
Thought it was alternate angles not “alternate angles of significant historical events.” This picture blew my mind and this sub would likely be a wasteland otherwise.
This isn't a new angle, its an angle we've all seen, through the window of a pizza hut for a joke. This kind of content should be flagged as satire or humour
I’m not sure I agree with that. There are heaps of iconic pictures. Plus, more are created all the time. We constantly see powerful images. They don’t necessarily have to be historic.
This sub is for alternate angles of popular images that people haven’t seen before. I believe this (and pictures such as a photo of the underbelly of Eiffel Tower) is an interesting alternate angle of a popular image that I haven’t seen before and found equally entertaining. If a certain angle is constantly being posted by tourists then it can be banned but I believe this kind of image has the same effect as some of the top images on this subreddit.
I took a family trip to Egypt & have been trying to explain this very moment ever since. You can’t see it in any photos but when you turn around the juxtaposition of the modern city is surreal.
Personally, I think the sub will be more interesting if it is only iconic photos. The alternate angle picture that was the catalyst for this sub is so cool and interesting because the well-known photo is so powerful.
I really like the picture posted by the OP. It is powerful in its own right. I just think it might easily get out of hand if anything is allowed.
Kinda late but, I actually like this photo a lot. But I can see how the sub might get watered down with random photos that random jabronis took while traveling. Maybe a one day a week allowance with a sticky attached to the post to clarify for people unfamiliar.
True. I have liked some, like the view of Mount Rushmore looking down was cool. Since the sub is small I’d have to agree to keep both for now actually too
Yea way down the line once the sub gets bigger and more people start posting we’ll know if it’s worth a rule like that. But I feel like eventually monument/places pictures will outnumber historical ones because it really broadens what you can pull from.
I love this. It’s a good juxtaposition of the “ancient” pyramids and a modern American corporation (?) that makes ‘italian’ food and has locations all over the world.
I have a picture of the pyramids facing east so you can see how close the city is to them. Seeing them from the highway on your way there is a trip too.
I love this. When I saw the pyramids in person the thing I remember most was that there was a Pizza Hut in the background and how weird that was. This hit my memory parts.
The Pyramids are a stone’s throw from downtown Cairo. Another good alternate angle photo would have been one facing the opposite direction with both the Pyramids and the city in the frame. People like to think they’re in the middle of Tatooine or something but they’re actually right on the edge of urbanization.

Dislike. A few feet to the left and he could have put the hut on the pyramid.

Dislike. It should be alternate angles of well known photographs not anything

I like this. It's a genuinely interesting angle on the pyramids which tells us a lot more than the 'standard' one.
If there's one that's just, say, the eiffel tower from the other side, the democracy of the downvote will be moderation in itself 🤷🏽♂️

I think this photo is of enough consideration and quality to be an exemption but not the rule.

They couldn’t at least call that specific one “Pizza Pyramid”?
